The Master of Science degree with a major in technology provides advanced instruction in technical, scientific, managerial and supervisory areas for those working in technical and management positions in business and industry. Graduate faculty members for the program are from the Department of Engineering Technology, the Department of Graphics and Imaging Technologies, and the Department of Technology and Workforce Learning.

Candidates for this degree must meet the requirements for Option I or Option II as described on page 63 of this cat­alog. The degree requires completion of 9 to 12 credit hours of emphasis area/elective courses (depending on Option I or Option II) and 21 credit hours of core courses. Other aspects of the curriculum are deter­mined by individual needs in consultation with the student's advisor. Areas of interest in which the student may gain additional strength include product design and develop­ment, manufac­turing and production, sales and distribution, maintenance and service, or a technical area within the curricula of the Department of Engineering Technology, the Department of Graphics and Imaging Technologies, and/or the Department of Technology and Workforce Learning.

Admission to the graduate program requires an undergrad­u­ate major in technology or equivalent. Students with degrees in business, industrial education, the sciences, engineering, and other areas are considered for admission. However, transcripts are evaluated and certain foundation courses may be required to be completed as prerequisites to the core courses.

1. Platforms: It is the key to success. The “things” will get increasingly inexpensive, applications will multiply, and connectivity will cost less.
2. Standards and Ecosystems: IoT devices proliferate, new ecosystems will emerge, and there will be commercial and technical battles between these ecosystems that will dominate areas such as the smart home, the smart city and healthcare.
3. Event Stream Processing: Some IoT applications will generate extremely high data rates that must be analyzed in real time. Systems creating tens of thousands of events per second are common, and millions of events per second can occur in some telecom and telemetry situations.
4. Operating Systems: There’s a wide range of systems out there that have been designed for specific purposes.
5. Processors and Architecture: Designing devices with an understanding of those devices’ needs will require deep technical skills.
SO IS THE FUTURE FOR INTERNET OF THINGS REALLY BRIGHT?
IoT is a very simple concept: allow machines to talk to each other in order to provide contextually relevant information to a wide variety of audiences
By 2020, there will be approximately 40 billion IoT devices out there Or quite possibly a lot more.
And there are two things you can bet on: these devices will make our collective lives a lot better and our smartphones will be the central hub connecting them all.

The Mind After Midnight: Where Do You Go When You Go to Sleep?

We spend a third of our lives asleep. Every organism on Earth—from rats to dolphins to fruit flies to microorganisms—relies on sleep for its survival, yet science is still wrestling with a fundamental question: Why does sleep exist? During Shakespeare and Cervantes' time, sleep was likened to death, with body and mind falling into a deep stillness before resurrecting each new day. In reality, sleep is a flurry of action. Trillions of neurons light up. The endocrine system kicks into overdrive. The bloodstream is flooded with a potent cocktail of critically vital hormones. Such vibrant activity begs the question: Where do we go when we go to sleep? Based on new sleep research, there are tantalizing signposts. We delved into the one-eyed, half-brained sleep of some animals; eavesdropped on dreams to understand their cognitive significance; and investigated extreme and bizarre sleeping behaviors like “sleep sex” and “sleep violence.”

The World Science Festival gathers great minds in science and the arts to produce live and digital content that allows a broad general audience to engage with scientific discoveries. R integration with Power BI provides more flexibility for users. People are able to have more visualizations which not exist currently in Power BI such as: normal distribution chart, column width chart, different type of subplots in a map, five dimensions’ chart with facet chart and so forth. Moreover, writing R scripts inside power query and Power BI Visualization enable users to do machine learning using R cods. The other possibilities that recently added, people able to create custom R visual with plotly package to make their visualization much more interactive, accessible and more flexible. In this session, first I will show how to create some interesting charts using ggplot2 package inside Power BI. Then, I will show how to do Machine Learning inside Power query by following machine learning process: data gathering, data cleansing, feature selection, model creation, data sampling and finally prediction. Also, I will show the main process to create a custom R visual (pbiviz) file through the installing Power BI tools. Finally, a brief demo in current available R visual produces by Microsoft team will be presented.

As a graduate from Technische Universität München (TUM) himself, Prof Schlichtmann worked in renowned companies such as Siemens AG and Infineon Technologies AG before re-joining the TUM as a professor in 2003. His work and passion lies in the field of Integrated Circuits, where he is Chair of the Institute for Electronic Design Automation at TUM.

Professor Ulf Schlichtmann is a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering & Information Technology, Technische Universität München (TUM). He is Chair of Electronic Design Automation and has contributed significantly to the startup of the Bachelor of Science programmes in Singapore.

Currently, he teaches in the BSc in Electrical Engineering & IT programme, a TUM programme conducted in Singapore, in collaboration with Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) & taught in English. He also teaches in TUM Asia's MSc in Integrated Circuit Design programme.
