Salween River adds a magical touch to Yunnan with multiple tropical fruits growing alongside the riverbank, such as lychees, mangoes, bananas and egg fruits (canistel) I picked some lychess during the hot summer and made dishes rare to my families. I made shrimp balls with crystal lLychees, refreshing lychee beer and roast fish with lychees. The novel taste of lychee dishes drives the hotness away and is very satisfying.

一棵香蕉树一生只结一次香蕉,香蕉成熟后,香蕉树也可以用来喂猪了,新长出来的香蕉树要明年才会长出新的香蕉。怒江边上种的香蕉,非常软糯香甜,不加药水催熟的香蕉,除了表皮有点丑,真的香甜到爆!这几种香蕉的吃法,你们喜欢哪一种?

One banana tree will harvest banana once in a life. After the bananas are ripe, the tree can be used to feed the pigs. New banana trees will not harvest until next year. The bananas grown alongside the banks of Salween River are very soft and sweet. Unlike those being forced ripen with chemicals, they taste extremely sweet, although the skin is a bit ugly. 「一席一果」——晶莹剔透的桂圆【滇西小哥】

桂圆又叫龙眼,小时候特别爱吃,后来怕长胖,每次都只尝几颗……上大学时候在产桂圆的江边小城,那里盛产桂圆,常常吃些用桂圆做的美食,回來雲南幾年後,突然想念那的味道了,用云南的桂圆做几道菜吧。 云南也有种桂圆的地方,还是在那条怒江边上,夏天虽然在江边会更闷热一些,但吃了荔枝吃桂圆也挺幸福的!吃完这一季桂圆,夏天也彻底结束了~

Longan is also called dragon's eye. I used to love them when I was a kid. As its sweetness leads to easy weight gains, I had to eat less of them. My collage is in a riverside town with lots of longans. People there use longan to make various cuisines. It's been years since I've returned to Yunnan. The taste of longan came to my mind out of blue, so I decided to cook some dishes with Yunnan longan.
Yunnan does have longan trees. It's still along the Salween River. Though the riverside is muggy in summer, it does feel great to enjoy litchis first, then longan. After I enjoyed the longan, summer has officially gone.

你们见过长了几百年的芒果树嘛?这个季节的云南,空气中都能闻到芒果味,特别香甜~有几百年的芒果树长的老品种芒果,也有鹰嘴芒、小澳芒~我们吃芒果,从生的吃到熟的,凉拌生芒果沙拉,芒果糯米饭,还能做成芒果干储存一整年,不管怎么吃,都让嘴巴停不下来!

百香果,我们当地叫西番莲,甜的直接吃,酸的加点白砂糖一起吃,长大后发现,原来百香果还可以拿来做菜,百香果有多种维生素和微量元素,果汁果皮都是宝,所以被称为「果汁之王」、「水果药王」,它有独特的酸味和果香,我们喜欢用它的果酸来调味,做蘸水,拌菜,煮鱼煮鸡都特别鲜美~

寻找云南香格里拉高原上的舌尖美味——藏餐【滇西小哥】

说起藏餐, 怎么少得了牦牛肉,酥油茶和糌粑呢?和鲁茸告别后我们去了一趟香格里拉吉迪村的牧场,除了草甸牛羊,这里还有香气扑鼻的糌粑和香甜沁人的酥油茶。
村里的老人们3到9月都在牧场放牧,每天都挤牛奶做酥油,第一次看到酥油的制作过程,也尝到了最新鲜的酥油茶的味道,走之前和爷爷买了一饼酥油和一些牦牛肉,爷爷还送了我青稞粉,回家后做一顿正儿八经的藏餐~除了酥油茶和糌粑,我还做了藏式火锅和耗牛肉干,也很有味道呢!

Speaking of Tibetan dishes, how can we forget yak meat, butter tea and tsampas? After saying goodbye to Lu, we went to the Jidi Village Pasture of Shangri-La. Besides yaks and goats, this place is also famous for its fragrance tsampa and delicious butter tea.
Between March to September, the elders usually herd the cattle in the pasture. They will collect milk and make butter daily. It's my first time seeing how the butter is made. I also had a try at the freshest butter tea. I bought a butter cake and some yak before leaving. The old man also gave me some hulless barley powder as a gift. I made some real Tibetan dishes at home. Besides butter tea and tsampa, I also made a Tibetan yak hot pot and some dried yak meat. It's very delicious.

Before my brother went to school, I cut all the bamboo shoots and killed a chicken. These bamboo shoots make delicious dishes, including stir-fries, cold dishes and bamboo shoot soups!

I like all kinds of colorful stones, large and small. So I picked some with Dawang alongside Nujiang. I made several dishes, including pepper salt stone pancakes, stone fish in wooden bucket and roasted sausage on stones with the black stones. I also made two paintings with the rest. 踩着秋天的尾巴,用核桃油煎一份仪式感满满的牛排,做一锅铁板烧,既温暖又美味!

到了晚上,供完月亮,我们一家人就围坐吃月饼,聊聊家常,心情好再打个歌。云南人有喜庆节日都会聚在一起打歌。月满杯盈,一切的圆满只为团圆,希望你们和家人都可以健康、开心,爱你们~

How did you celebrate Mid-Autumn Day? We went to the market in the day and bought some candies and fruits for the festival. I also visited granny's and brought some snacks. This is call Holiday Visit. As a present in return, granny also picked some fruits and vegetables for me to bring home.
At night, after worshiping the moon, we got together and enjoyed the mooncakes. We chatted and danced to the music. Here in Yunnan, people would dance to music together during the festivals. 舂(chōng)筒不响,吃饭不香
“舂”是景颇族最具有特色的一种美食加工方式!景颇族人家里都会有一个竹子做成的舂筒,舂的工具也比较讲究,上山挖了一个老竹根,花了两天做了舂筒,在景颇族人眼里似乎没有什么食材是不可以拿来“舂一下”的,任何食材都能放舂筒里舂出美味佳肴~

A meal is not proper without using the pestle.
“Pound” is a special Jing-po cooking techniques! In every Jing-po household, you can find a pestle and a bowl made of bamboo. The tools are special made as well. I dug an old bamboo root in the mountain and spent two days making the pounding bowl. To Jing-po people, everything can be pounded. They can make delicious meal with almost every ingredient.

冬月,一定要吃一顿年猪饭才算完整【滇西小哥】

又到了一年一次吃年猪饭的时候,腌上一坛水腌菜,拌一碗:“红生”,炒一碗酸猪血,还有那金黄的火烧皮加上酸木瓜醋和莴笋丝一拌,用大锅炒一盆蚕豆炒肉,猪肝炒蒜苗,借着骨头汤再熬一锅酸耙菜~
在外打拼的亲戚们陆续回来,吃了一年的外卖,在冬月里吃上一桌年猪饭,哇,是过年的味道啊!

It's time for the annual pork stew feast again. On this day, we will prepare a jar of fermented pickled vegetables, a bowl of Red Raw Cold Dish and some stir-fried sour pig blood. We will also mix the golden roasted pig skin with sour papaya vinegar, make stir-fried pork with fava beans, stir-fried pig liver with garlic sprouts and brewed some pickled vegetables using the broth.
Family members who are working outside the village all come back one after another. After having take-outs for most of the year, the annual pork stew feast in the winter months always reminds us of the coming Spring Festival.
