10 Things You Never Knew About The Earth

There are many things you don't know about the Earth. These amazing facts about the planet are unknown for so many people on the earth. let's find top 10 hidden things about the earth.

1.Earth has a protective shield

The Earth’s magnetic field acts as a shield against the continuous bombardment of particles from the Sun. This field extends from the inner core of the Earth to the edge where it meets the solar wind.

2.The Earth is the only planet in the solar system with active tectonic plates

The movement of these plates makes the surface of our planet in constant change, being responsible for the formation of mountains, seismicity, and volcanism. They are also the reason of many earthquakes and catastrophes.

3.The largest living structure on Earth

The Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Australia, is the largest unique structure made up of living organisms on the planet. It goes to the extent that it is the only one that can be seen from space.

4.Earth is a planet of extremes

Our planet is full of contrasts. The variety of its geographical areas and its climates makes practically every region have its own peculiarities. There are several candidates for being the hottest places on Earth, but the place with major temperature recorded is located in Death Valley of the USA, where on July 10, 1913, the thermometer rose to 56.7 ° C.

5.Gravity is not the same everywhere in the world

Our planet does not really have the form of the sphere, but a form closer to an ellipse. In addition, the ground is irregular and the mass of our planet is not distributed in a perfectly homogeneous way.

6.Earth is the only known planet with life

The Earth is the only astronomical body in which we have been able to verify that there is life. There are currently about 1.2 million species of animals listed, although scientists believe that there is only a small percentage of the total.

7.Earth is an iron planet

The Earth is the densest and the largest planet in the Solar System. The most present chemical elements are iron (about 32%), oxygen (about 30%), and silicon (about 15%).

8.The border between the Earth and space is to 100 kilometers of altitude

It is considered that the border between the atmosphere and space is in Line of Karman that is to 100 km of altitude. We are certain that is one of the things you never knew about the Earth.

9.Water covers more than 70% of the Earth

On Earth, water is in the solid, liquid and gaseous state. You may know this if you have studied a lot in school. If not, this is one of the things you never knew about the Earth. We cannot blame you because, from our perspective, there is way more land

10.The Earth is not a perfect sphere

Usually, our planet is represented as a perfect sphere, but that is not its precise form. The Earth is mounted on the poles, so its shape is sewn on a circumference. .

15 Things You Didn't Know The Purpose Of!

Top things you didn’t know the purpose of! These are the everyday items and things you didn’t know the use for!

#14. “Pen Cap”-- You have definitely noticed the tiny hole in the top of a cap and may have used it to try and make a whistle or pretended it was a tiny spyglass. Most people believe this hole has something to do with preventing a pen from drying-out but this is not the case. The hole in the pen cap actually serves as a safety feature. In the event that a small child swallows one, the hole allows air to pass through and reduces the risk of suffocation.

#13. “Measuring Tape Tools”-- The modern measuring tape machine is a handy invention that most construction workers and contractors can’t live without, but even some of the most skilled workers might not know it has two incredible yet simple features. First there is the serrated edge on the metal end of the tape. This was put into the design so that if you desired you could put a minor scratch or indentation into the surface you are measuring, in order to give you a marker to make further measurements or designs off of. The other feature is right next to the serrated edge. You may have noticed the small hole that is commonly located in the metal tip. So what’s the purpose of this? Well this is so that if you are measuring something from a point where a nail or screw is you can hook the tape onto the nail and hold the tape in place.

#12. “The Quarter’s Edge”-- You probably have spied the hundreds of tiny grooves that mark the outside edge of a quarter but not thought twice about it having a purpose. But these tiny ridges actually once served an important function and no it’s not just so magician’s can get a better grip during coin tricks. Up until recently, historically speaking, the cost of the metals in a coin reflected the coins value so many people took to shaving the edges off of the coins and then used the rest of the coin to purchase items as if the coin still had full value. They would then save up their shavings and melted them together to create new coins or just sell the chunks. In order to combat this, coin minters started putting these ridges on their coins so that retailers could tell whether the coins had been shaved. This practice, though not necessary today, is carried on for the sake of tradition and aesthetic. So why don’t nickels have them? Because no one cares about nickels.

10 Places Science Can't Explain

Some of our planet's most mysterious places seem to defy the laws of science. Here are some of such.

►Second channel ►

The devil's kettle waterfall is believed by some to be a gateway to another universe or even to hell itself. The two streamed waterfall has baffled geologists for decades as no one can work out where the water flowing into the kettle leads. It's as if it simply disappears. But that's not the only mysterious water structure. In the amazon river is now known to be a boiling river hot enough to kill any creature to fall into it. It was thought nothing more than a myth until it's recent discovery and no one knows why the water is hot enough to boil.

In India stands a small village known for having a high twin rate. It's obvious why the settlement is now known as twin town but less obvious why so many twins are born here. Suggested answers include the claim that government experiments secretly changed the genetics of locals decades ago.

Perhaps the most mysterious location is the zone of silence in Mexico, a place known for magnetic phenomena and as a dead zone for radio. You will receive no radio signal while in the zone and don't expect your compass to be reliable. Also watch out for mutated animals or strange alien like figures - those are never a good sign.

25 Earth Facts That Might Surprise You

Earth is the most unique planet in our galaxy (at least until we find another one which houses life). So unique in fact that it has taken us our whole existence to study it and we still don't fully understand everything about it. Nevertheless, what we do know about our home planet is still pleasantly surprising. From the absurd amount of lightning strikes in a day to its varying gravity force these are 25 Earth facts that might surprise you.

Earth facts found on today's video:

The driest place on Earth would be Antarctica's Dry Valleys. It hasn't rained there for over 2 million years

Wind transports 40 million tonnes of dust from the Sahara to the Amazon every year

The temperature of the Earth's core is 5500 degrees Celsius (9900 degrees Fahrenheit). That is the same temperature as the surface of the sun

99% of the gold on Earth lies in its core

Earth is the only planet in the solar system with plate tectonics. Without them carbon would not be recycled and the Earth would overheat, something like Venus

90% of all volcanoes on Earth are underwater

One liter of saltwater contains 13 billionths of a gram of gold

97% of the water on Earth is saltwater

70% of that remaining 3% is wrapped up in the polar icecaps

Most of the rest is either soil moisture or deep underground in inaccessible aquifers

Of the minute fraction of fresh water that is actually found in lakes and rivers, nearly 1/5 is all packed into one place – Lake Baikal in Russia.

There are 8.6 million lightning strikes everyday

From a distance, Earth would be the brightest planet. This is because sunlight is reflected off the planet's water.

At 19 km (12 miles) high we encounter something known as the Armstrong Limit. This is where it becomes necessary to wear a spacesuit because due to the low pressure, water boils at body temperature.

There are 38,000 man made objects orbiting the Earth

22,000 of them are larger than 10 meters

Every day at least one of them comes crashing back to Earth

Technically there are not 24 hours in a day. The Earth only takes 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 seconds to spin on its axis. This is called a sidereal day.

Contrary to popular belief, the Great Wall of China is not visible from space. The air pollution in China is though. And so is the Great Barrier Reef.

The farthest picture ever taken of Earth was from 3.7 billion miles and has been called The Pale Blue Dot

The ozone hole is actually shrinking and in 2012 it was smaller than it had ever been in the last decade

90% of garbage in the ocean is plastic

The Earth is not a perfect sphere, due to the force of its spin the Earth actually bulges out around the equator

Because of this abnormality certain regions experience more or less gravity than others. One such area is Hudson Bay of Canada. The difference is very small though, only 0.005%

We know more about our universe than we do about our oceans or our Earth's core. In fact, 95% of the world's oceanic territory has still not been explored

25 Unique Facts About Mars: Earth’s Mysterious Cousin

Mars: the red planet, the last of the terrestrial planets, and our greatest hope for sustaining life beyond our own planet (so far anyways). Ever since Egyptian astronomers first discovered Mars in the heavens, humanity has been fascinated by the nearby planet. At a time just over 100 years ago, we even believed intelligent life much like our own lived on the planet's cratered surface. Though we often hear the planet is quite similar to Earth, it's also radically different. These differences will provide some serious challenges for landing a human mission there and sustaining life, challenges which we've brought up among these facts on Mars. Whether you've always been fascinating by space and the planets or you're just looking to learn a bit more about our second closest planet, this list is just what you need to get up to speed. From how the planet got its name to its fearsome dust storms to the question of Is there really organic life on Mars?, we've dug into the red planet's history to bring you these 25 Unique Facts About Mars: Earth's Mysterious Cousin.
