The Right Way to Insulate Attics with Blown-in Insulation

A how-to on installing CertainTeed’s InsulSafe® SP and TrueComfort® Blown-in fiber glass insulation into attic applications, including application techniques and quality control.

How Radiant Barrier Works - AtticFoil® Reflects Heat Coming Off The Roof

- How Radiant Barrier Foil Insulation Works In An Attic. Radiant barrier works by reflecting heat coming off the roof. Normally the heat travels across the attic by radiation and is absorbed by the attic insulation. Normal attic insulation only helps to reduce conductive heat (R-Value) flow. Eventually the insulation heats up and the heat is transferred into the home. A radiant barrier will REFLECT the heat coming off the roof and make the INSULATION COOLER. By reducing the insulation temperature, it reduces heat flow into the home.

Should the Attic Floor Insulation Be Removed When Doing Spray Foam?

Spray foam insulation contractors and homeowners alike have debated this questions over many years and since spray foam first gained popularity in late the 2000’s, we’ve had many case studies to learn from. What is the best practice for homeowners when they are considering spray foaming their attic? In a hot dry climate like Phoenix, spray foam is worth the extra cost and is the ideal insulation method because all of our ductwork and HVAC systems are inside the attic space. Spray foam contractors in Arizona have differed though in their reasoning over if the existing insulation should be removed or kept along the attic floor.
