ELK HUNTING: GIANT COLORADO ELK charges into 40 yards after coming unglued!

Share this video if love screaming bulls!

After locating a group of elk on the opening day of the 2019 Colorado Muzzleloader season we can tell one of the bulls is a giant by his voice. We get sidehill with consistent wind and its time to start elk calling. If you are wondering how to call elk this is a perfect example with some great elk / wapiti sounds. I start with soft cow calls while using the Montana cow butt decoy in an attempt to lure them out of the timber.

I get them fired up using the matriarch cow call and the herd bull is consistently responding with a bugle until I cut him off with a challenge bugle. The bull elk comes unglued and charges into 40 yards screaming the whole way!

The bull comes charging into 40 yards before the shooter finally takes him out. One thing is for sure this was one of my top call-ins from 2019 and my heart was pounding!

Bowhunting Elk IN THE RUT | Montana Archery Elk (Amazon Episode)

In this episode of Fresh Tracks season 8, Randy Newberg is bowhunting for bugling bulls in the steep mountains of Montana. Joining him are Karrson and Andrew from Gerber Gear as well as a group of llamas from Wilderness Ridge Trail Llamas.

They are backpacking 7 miles in with all of their camping gear hoping to find the elk and stay on them. The terrain is steep rocky and covered in thick timber. But with good elk numbers in the area, Randy hopes to be able to put the guys on a couple bulls.

The hunting is tough as they encounter some pressure from other hunters. Remaining flexible they keep going to fall back plans and finally are able to get on a couple good stalks. Being able to glass up a mature bull they hope to sneak in close and call him into within archery range.

2019 Mt Emily Elk Hunt

In this episode we talk through our five days hunting for elk in the Mt. Emily Unit.

Mt. Emily Oregon is just outside of La Grande. It is one of the most sought after rifle tags in the state, and my good friend Adam drew the tag during the 2019 season. None of us could believe his luck.

After a couple scouting trips, nearly getting blown off the mountain trying to set up camp, and multiple days at the start of the season looking for bulls suitable for a tag of this caliber, we finally found an area with multiple good bulls and were eventually in the right place, at the right time.

2018 Montana General Elk Hunt with Randy Newberg (Part 1)

In Part 1 of Randy Newberg's 2018 Montana General Elk Hunt, the crew heads down to Idaho Falls to meet Beau Baty of Wilderness Ridge Trail Llamas who will be joining them on the hunt. They trailer up a bunch of llamas to bring, and hit the road to meet and pick up Lucas Burt from Leupold.

They drive to the trailhead where they plan to hunt and get the llamas and gear all packed and loaded before hitting the trail. The group gains a lot of elevation and hikes several miles, starting to get into some snow pack.

They spend the evening glassing and looking for some elk. Sure enough, Beau finds a few bulls and then argues about who is the last shooter of the group. With daylight fading, they finally get to camp, stake out the llamas and get camp set up with plans to locate some more elk in the morning.
