10. The Heart of Eternity ($16 million)
The stone that was made into the heart of Eternity Diamond was found at the world’s largest supplier of blue diamonds, the South African Premier Diamond Mine. Blue diamonds are incredibly rare with, on average, only one being found every year, and this one was an amazing find. The rough stone was 777 carats when it was dug up, and the owners waited until they had the perfect design idea before they started cutting it. The result was The Millenium Blue Diamonds- a series of heart, pear drop and oval shaped diamonds of which the Heart Of Eternity is the largest.
In recent years it has been on tour at various exhibitions, including at the Millennium exhibition in London in 2000, followed by the Smithsonian museum. It was reportedly bought in 2012 by Floyd Mayweather to give to his fiancée, but no details of the selling price were ever revealed. The $16 million price tag is an estimate based on its size and color, but the finished piece could be worth far more when you consider what a rare piece it is.
9. The Moussaieff Red Diamond ($20 million)
Diamonds come in many colors, but red ones are particularly rare. According to the Cape Town Diamond Museum there have only been up to 30 true red diamonds ever found, with most of them being less than half a carat. A farmer in Brazil found the rough stone that was to become the Moussaieff Red Diamond in the 90’s. At a weight of 13.90 carats it immediately became the center of attention.
The William Goldberg Diamond Corporation from New York then bought it, and decided to cut it into a triangular brilliant cut. This process would mean losing 8.79 carats, but the resulting cranberry colored 5.11 carat gem is simply stunning. It was originally named the Red Shield, but was renamed by the Moussaieff Jewelers when they purchased it for about $8 million at the turn of the century. This diamond has regularly been to exhibitions, being shown alongside other ones in the Smithsonian. Were it to be sold, it would be expected to cost at least $20 million.
8. The Perfect Pink ($23 million)
When it sold for $23 million in 2010, the Perfect Pink Diamond was the most expensive jewel that had ever been sold in Asia. It weighs 14.23 carats, is graded as fancy intense pink, and is set in a rose and white gold ring with rectangular shaped diamonds on either side. Pure Pink diamonds of more than 10 carats are very unusual, with only 18 examples having gone to auction in the past 244 years; none of which was classified as intense pink at the time of sale. This makes the Perfect Pink a truly unique piece, and explains why it sold for ten million dollars more than had been expected.
7. The Wittelsbach Diamond ($23.4 million)
The first records of the Wittelsbach Diamond come from back in the 17th century when it was sold to Louis XIV of France. It has a rare blue color, and weighs 35.56 carats. The stone has a royal history, having been passed down through families since the 1600’s. It went from France, to Spain, and over to Germany, where it accompanied the German King Louis III to his burial place in 1921.
At some point in the 30’s it was sold to raise money for the German government, and from here things get mysterious. No one seemed to know who had bought it, and it somehow got replaced with a piece of blue glas in the museum. Rumors of the actual diamond changing hands were rife in the following decades, until 1962 when it reappeared at a jewelery store in Belgium.
It was sold in 2008 for $23.4 million and, to the dismay of diamond historians, the new owner decided that it should be recut, since it had originally been done in the early 1600’s. The resulting stone, now 21.06 carats, meant that both the color and quality were improved, and the estimated price sky-rocketed.

Why lab-grown diamonds are better than mined diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds or synthetic diamonds are purer, cheaper and more sustainable than natural diamonds, so why are we still mining them? New technologies are opening the door to new hi-tech applications and a more sustainable production process.

12. Padparadscha Sapphire
Padparadscha sapphires are the world’s rarest sapphires. Their beauty is defined by their stunning combination of pink and orange shades, which typically amount to a salmon hue that’s almost akin to a mix of ruby and yellow sapphire.

11. Black Opal
The term “black opal” is used to describe opals that are dark in body color, including black, dark gray, and dark blue or green. They’re the world’s rarest, most valuable, and most sought-after opals.

10. Bixbite
Bixbite, also known as red emerald and red beryl, is a member of the beryl family that was discovered in 1904. Utah’s Wah Wah Mountains are the only place where it’s available in gem quality.

9. Serendibite
Discovered in Sri Lanka in 1902, when the country still went by the name Ceylon, serendibite is a dark, extremely rare mineral with a complex chemical makeup consisting of calcium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, boron, and oxygen, and which is even rarer in crystalline form. It’s named after Serendib, the ancient Arabic name for Sri Lanka.

8. Grandidierite
Grandidierite is a rare blue-green mineral that was discovered in Madagascar in 1902. Gem-quality material has also been found in Sri Lanka. Other sources include New York, Wyoming, Algeria, Czech Republic, Italy, India, Malawi, New Zealand, Norway, Slovakia, and Suriname. So maybe you can find some!

7. Musgravite
Musgravite is one of the world’s rarest gems. This smoky gray jewel is known to have violet and/or green undertones. It was discovered in 1967 in southern Australia’s Musgrave Ranges. Facet-quality musgravite was not found until 1993, and as of 2005, there were only eight known specimens in the world, three of which were identified by Canadian gemologist Murray Burford.

6. Taaffeite
Often misidentified as spinel, taaffeite is an extremely rare mineral named after its discoverer, Austrian geologist Count Edward Charles Richard Taaffe. He first identified the gem in 1945 as he sorted through a box of Sri Lankan spinel gemstones at a jeweler’s shop in Ireland and noticed inconsistencies between the specimens.

5. Painite
Painite is a deep orange-red or brownish stone that is only found in Myanmar, a Southeast Asian country formerly known as Burma. It was first identified as a new gem species in 1957. Between then and 2001, only two more specimens were discovered. Two of these three original gems are on display at the Natural History Museum in London.

4. Alexandrite
Alexandrite is a color-changing gem that was discovered in Russia in 1833 and named after the Tsar Alexander II. Under natural and fluorescent light, it appears green, and under artificial light, it’s red. The gem also changes colors when it’s viewed from different angles. My mom has a class ring and a cocktail ring inherited from my grandmother that is an alexandrite. It is very pretty!

3. Emerald
My favorite stone! But you probably already know that since hopefully you’ve seen my other videos!! Always remember, size isn’t everything when it comes to valuable gemstones! Emeralds are well-known for their deep green color and have been steadily sought-after for over 4,000 years.

2. Ruby
Nicknamed the “King of Gemstones,” rubies are one of the most popular precious stones, and they’re more historically associated with wealth and power than practically any other gem. They get their color, which ranges from pink to dark red, from their chromium and iron content.

1. Jadeite
Jadeite is one of two minerals that can be classified as jade, the other being nephrite, which is far more common. While nephrite can be mined in many places throughout the world, jadeite is primarily found in just ten places, including California; New Zealand; Myanmar; Itoigawa, Japan; Guatemala; Kazakhstan; British Columbia, Canada; Italy, and Turkestan.

Rough Diamonds: Natural Crystal Shapes & Surface Features | GIA Knowledge Sessions Webinar Series

GIA Knowledge Sessions Webinar - recorded live on January 21, 2021.

Once cut and polished, diamonds of similar size, shape and quality may look similar to the unaided eye. But in their rough form, natural diamonds have distinctive morphologies that tell much about their formation and their volcanic journey to Earth’s surface. Natural diamonds can form as glassy octahedral crystals, flat macles, in unusual spherical shapes and more. During their volcanic transit up to Earth’s surface, they also often acquire intricate markings from corrosive fluids. Tune in as GIA Research Scientist Dr. Evan Smith unravels the story behind rough diamonds’ unique morphologies.

Where Do Yellow Type Ib Diamonds Form in Nature? | GIA Knowledge Sessions Webinar Series

GIA Knowledge Sessions Webinar - recorded live on December 10, 2020.

Yellow diamonds with isolated nitrogen are rare and dazzling, accounting for less than 0.1% of natural diamonds. This is because, over time under high temperatures, the isolated nitrogen atoms that cause many of these diamonds’ intense yellow colors will aggregate and turn the diamonds pale yellow or near-colorless. What allows these rare yellow diamonds to retain their color? Tune in as GIA Research Scientist Dr. Karen V. Smit explores the atomic makeup and geologic journey of these stunning treasures.

7,801 Diamonds in one Ring || World Guinness Record || THE DIVINE Brahamkamlam

The New Guinness World Record for Most Diamonds Set in One Ring is achieved by Kotti Srikanth, Owner of The Diamond Store by Chandubhai (A unit of Hallmark Jewellers)
The New Guinness World Record for Most Diamonds Set in One Ring is achieved by Kotti Srikanth, Owner of The Diamond Store by Chandubhai (A unit of Hallmark Jewellers) in Hyderabad. A total of 7,801 natural diamonds have been used in curating the ring named ‘The Divine – 7801 Brahma Vajra Kamalam’. The Ring has been unveiled today at their store. This is the first Guinness World Record in Jewellery achieved in South India.

The name of the ring is inspired from Brahma Kamalam, a rare Flower found in the Himalayas which is considered sacred and also has medicinal properties. Diamond is called as Vajra in Sanskrit and Telugu. The flower was chosen as design of The Divine Ring as it is a common offering for worship in the most natural and purest form. The ring was conceptualized in September 2018 and it took about 11 months of dedicated artistic effort and craftsmanship for its completion. It has a total of six layers, out of which five layers have eight petals each and the sixth layer has six petals with three pollens in the centre.

The submission to Guinness World Records was done in August 2019. After several rounds of verification and evidence exchange, in September 2020, the Guinness World Records awarded the “Most Diamonds Set in One Ring.” The Guinness World Records authority were clear that the diamonds used must be Conflict Free Natural Diamonds. Given the legacy, that was not a big challenge and all proofs were submitted right from the Mine to the Ring.
