Speaking on NDTV's special series, The Townhall, Mr Gadkari mocked the Congress leader's new aggression, saying Rahul Gandhi is like a toddler learning to take baby steps. The Newshour Debate: Protests, demand & a counter - Full Debate (30th Jan 2014)

More contradictions, more accusations and more trouble for the Congress party as the 'Frankly Speaking' exclusive with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and his admission on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots continues to pose hurdles for the Congress. Massive protests in the capital, continuous demands for an SIT probe and a former President's aide contradicting Rahul has put Congress on the defensive. The 1984 admission on TIMES NOW continues to create ripples on Thursday night (January 30).

In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- Randeep Singh Surjewala, Spokesperson, Congress; Manjit Singh GK, President, Delhi Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee; HS Phoolka, Counsel for victims of 84 anti-Sinkh riots; Hardeep Singh Puri, Leader, BJP; K C Singh, Former Secy, MEA; and Tarlochan Singh, Former Chairman, National Commission for Minorities -- discuss whether, 30 years later, will a fresh probe help fix responsibility for the 1984 riots?

The Real Politik - Rahul Gandhi vs Narendra Modi - Battle ready ? - Full Episode

Congress VP Rahul Gandhi has a different philosophy from BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi. Do you think Narendra Modi's record leaves room for questions on riots? Who will get more alliances? Who has greater drawing power - Rahul or Modi - by making the debate communalism vs secularism? Is the debate between Rahul and Modi getting sharper? Watch this episode of the Real Politik with TIMES NOW's Political Editor Navika Kumar and get the answers.

From a reserved politician to taking a stand on issues that mattered even if it meant going against the line taken by the party, Congress VP Rahul Gandhi has even hinted that he is ready to take on the top job. Putting an end to all speculations, the Congress has made Rahul Gandhi its Campaign Committee Chief instead of making him the PM face. The decision invited a scathing attack from the BJP, which is now saying that the Congress is scared to pit him against their nominee Narendra Modi.

And now, with reports suggesting an unease between Congress and NCP, BJP dubbed UPA as a sinking ship which is being deserted by allies and said nervousness in the ruling party is visible as polls draw near. BJP leader Arun Jaitley said the opposition of the allies is no different as Trinamool Congress, DMK and TRS were major allies which had drifted away from UPA while NCP and National Conference were doing so now. He said the NCP has been giving conflicting signals on a daily basis. Dismissing suggestions that UPA was shrinking, Congress said all options are open for it to align with any party except the communal ones. Hitting back at the BJP for calling Congress a sinking ship, Information and Broadcasting minister Manish Tewari said that many NDA allies had already left and the opposition party's ship has already sunk. He added that despite all attempts, the BJP has not been able to gather allies in the NDA. Tewari said that before levelling wild charges the opposition party would be well served as to how many allies join them and how many have left them in the past five years. Congress downplayed conflicting signals from the NCP on the issue of alliance in the LS polls saying that the two parties have been together for the past 15 years and suggested it could be tough bargaining over seat sharing. Politics First - Rahul Gandhi's 'primary' experiment - Part 1

Rahul Gandhi's experiment of choosing Congress candidates for upcoming Lok Sabha polls through the primaries system yielded its first result with a former party MLA emerging as a winner to contest from Indore. Satyanarayan Patel won the 'primary' for selecting the Congress candidate for the Indore Lok Sabha constituency getting 573 of the 751 votes cast in an internal vote involving party members. 46-year-old Patel's candidature will, however, have to be finalised by the Congress's central leadership, party sources said. Party primaries -- internal elections for choosing a the candidate -- on the lines of the system in the US is Congress Vice President's pet idea. To ensure party worker's direct participation in selecting the candidate for the Lok Sabha polls, 16 seats including Indore have been identified for primaries. Patel won here, getting 573 votes, Congress secretary for Madhya Pradesh Sanjay Nirupam told reporters in Indore.

Patel's rivals Yogesh Yadav got 96 votes while Archana Jaiswal bagged 57 ballots. Though a total of 1,366 Congress members had registered as voters, only 751 turned up. An elated Patel said he would work with the senior leaders and workers to end BJP's 25 years long stranglehold over the constituency. Rahul has reiterated his resolve to replicate the primaries system of choosing candidates with the collective decision of Congress workers in a particular region if the pilot project of holding it in the 16 Parliamentary seats for the forthcoming elections bore fruit. However, some party leaders like Union minister Beni Prasad Varma have openly voiced reservations over this system. He did not agree with Rahul's formula for candidate selections, saying that the primary process of selecting candidates in two UP Lok Sabha seats was equivalent to an auction.

With all due respect to Mr Rahul Gandhi, I do not agree with this experiment in Sant Kabir Nagar and Ambedkar Nagar Lok Sabha seats. Several Samajwadi workers are becoming voters of the Congress to derail the process,? he said, adding that such experiments were not meant for UP because the party organisation in the state is not strong enough. BJP's Sumitra Mahajan(70) has been consistently winning from Indore since 1989. She has said she is willing to contest this time too. Patel lost to her by 11,480 votes last time. Reacting to Patel's victory in the internal election, Mahajan said, I had defeated him in the last election, but elections are like a battle, and we don't take our opponents lightly. Patel lost in the Assembly elections last November, failing to retain his traditional Depalpur seat. Download the Times Now India's Election HQ app and get all the election info at one go.
