Whitehouse insiders reveal damning allegations against Donald Trump | 60 Minutes Australia

No one in Washington DC works harder than the person in charge of the red carpet, and whoever it is will be extra busy when our Prime Minister arrives in the next few weeks to have his back slapped by President Donald Trump. The White House has already signalled it’s setting the pomp and ceremony switch to extreme because the US-Australia relationship is so vital. But there could be problems. Two former high-profile Trump aides, Omarosa Manigault Newman and Anthony Scaramucci, have turned on the President and are now revealing damaging details about the inner workings of the White House. And as Karl Stefanovic reports, one of the most embarrassing claims is that the supposed “unbreakable” alliance between our two countries, far from being Trumped, was almost dumped.

EXCLUSIVE: Illegal wildlife market raided and shut down by Thai authorities | 60 Minutes Australia

Subscribe here: Full Episodes here | UPDATE: End of Trade (2020)

It was only seven weeks ago when 60 MINUTES reporter Liam Bartlett went undercover at an Asian wildlife market; one of the very kind where it’s believed today’s deadly virus originated. His report from Bangkok was not only watched by millions of people around the world, it forced an extraordinary response. Thai authorities raided the market, shut it down, and took the animals they found to safety. This week the Australian agriculture minister David Littleproud demanded further international action, calling these types of markets a risk to human health and food production.

Australia's spy agency raids the home of politician targeted by China | 60 Minutes Australia

Subscribe here: Full Episodes: | Foreign interference (2020)

On Friday, federal agents under the direction of counter espionage authority ASIO, conducted an extraordinary raid on the home and office of New South Wales Labor MP, Shaoquett Moselmane. Investigators were searching for evidence of any involvement by Moselmane in a plot by China to interfere in Australia’s political system. It’s thought to be the first time a serving member of an Australian parliament has been investigated over allegations of being influenced by a hostile foreign state. Reporting for 60 MINUTES, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, Nick McKenzie was there for the raid and says the agents clearly knew what they were looking for. McKenzie, who for months has also been observing Moselmane’s pro-China activities, warns this operation will have far-reaching consequences both here and in Beijing.

Mid-November in Wuhan, China, and cases of a strange new flu start surfacing. In a sprawling city of 11 million people, the coronavirus, our invisible brutal enemy was born - festering at least a month and a half before the world was told. In January President Xi Jinping made a decision that would ultimately condemn the world: allowing 5 million people to leave the epicentre of the virus without being screened.

Chinese academic claims Australia's call for COVID-19 inquiry is 'divisive' | 60 Minutes Australia

Subscribe here: Full Episodes here | Trading Blows (2020)

few days ago Australia was described as chewing gum on the boot of China that needed to be scraped off on a rock. The insult came from an influential Chinese newspaper editor who is backed by the ruling Communist Party. Australia’s crime? The Chinese think we’re troublemakers because the Morrison government is calling for an independent inquiry into the origins and spread of coronavirus. It’s fair to say Canberra’s relationship with Beijing is currently fractured, but understanding why China is so defensive, not to mention petulant, can be difficult because the regime is so suspicious of the western media. However, in an exclusive and at times robust interview with Tara Brown, Professor Chen Hong, head of the Australian Studies Centre in Shanghai, argues the Chinese case.

The Secret Princess: King's love child in court battle for recognition | 60 Minutes Australia

Subscribe here: Full Episodes: | Game of Thrones (2020)

60 MINUTES reporter Liam Bartlett used to consider the British Royal family to be the masters – and mistresses – of scandal. Now he thinks they may have to hand over their crown to the Belgian Royal family, who have sensationally been ordered to acknowledge and recognise a brand-new princess. However, this decree is not a reason for official celebration on the streets of Brussels because, rather embarrassingly, the new royal is the 52-year-old love child of the former King, Albert II. Back in the 1960s when he was a prince, the supposedly happily married and deeply religious Albert took a long-term lover. Delphine Boel was the surprise consequence of the illicit affair. For most of her life she dutifully kept mum about her lineage, until a bitter falling out with her father changed her mind.

Jacinda Ardern's cringe-worthy 60 Minutes interview

An Australian 60 Minutes interview with New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern has hit the headlines for its patronising and cringe-worthy tone. Veteran reporter Charles Wooley asks Ardern and partner Clarke Gayford when their baby is due and then went to question if the baby was conceived during the election campaign. A visibly uncomfortable Ardern says at one point: Not that we need to get into those details.

What forced Meghan and Harry to do a royal runner? | 60 Minutes Australia

It's not quite disintegrating, but there's little doubt the Royal Family is fraying at the edges. Bad enough is Prince Andrew being entangled in an ongoing sex scandal involving young women, but even more gob-smacking is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daring – many say disrespectful – escape from the Firm. Subscribe here: Full Episodes here

As Tom Steinfort reports from London, the shame of it is the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had promised so much in the way of positive PR for the Royals. Sticking to the fairytale script, they'd fallen in love, married in a castle, and produced a beautiful boy. But somehow it's now all gone horribly askew.
