The Most Powerful Strategy for Healing People and the Planet | Michael Klaper | TEDxTraverseCity

NOTE FROM TED: While some viewers might find advice provided in this talk to be helpful as a complementary approach, please do not look to this talk for medical advice as nutrigenomics is currently an emerging field of study. We've flagged this talk for falling outside TEDx's curatorial guidelines. This talk only represents the speaker’s personal views and experiences with diet, chronic illness, molecular biology, and human health. Certain statements and claims are not yet supported by legitimate scientific evidence. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here:

Dr. Klaper says he had an awakening while putting people to sleep. When we awaken to the damage that a meat-based diet creates in our body and the toll that the industrial production of animal flesh inflicts upon our planet, we then become aware that the single most effective action anyone can take to improve their personal health and help heal our injured planet is to reduce, or better, eliminate their consumption of meat. Dr. Michael Klaper is a gifted clinician, internationally recognized teacher, and sought-after speaker on diet and health. He has practiced medicine for more than 40 years and is a leading educator in applied plant-based nutrition and integrative medicine. He is also the author of a successful book on cholesterol-free nutrition and an upcoming title (to be announced in 2018), as well as numerous DVDs and Videos on Demand, a series of “Healthy YOU Webinars,” and dozens of articles. A source of inspiration advocating plant-based diets and the end of animal cruelty worldwide, Dr. Klaper contributed to the making of two PBS television programs Food for Thought and the award-winning Diet for a New America movie based on the book of the same name. Dr. Michael Klaper teaches that “Health Comes From Healthy Living” and is dedicated to the healing and flourishing of all living beings and our planet. Mental Benefits of Long-term Fasting: My 3-Year Experience

Since June of 2013, when I initially set out to drop my weight, lots of changes have taken place—many of them mental as well as physical. This video goes into what took place inside my head and how my life has changed as a result, and why I will always have fasting as an integral part of my life.

I have included six major benefits of fasting, plus 12 personal changes I have experienced, a few of which are quite baffling. What I somehow failed to mention in this video is that my favorite color also changed. It went from green to teal and yellow.

The Miracle of Fasting | Dr. Jason Fung & Naomi Whittel

#jasonfung #fasting #naomiwhittel

To learn more about the benefits of fasting, check out my blog!
Those of you interested in health and wellness have most likely heard the name Jason Fung, and if you haven't yet, you will. Dr. Jason Fung is a world-leading expert in intermittent fasting, and, also a friend, so I was thrilled that he was willing to chat briefly on the subject with me, and on camera, no less, so I could share it. This is just a very brief overview but there is so much more we will be discussing in upcoming videos (subscribe!) so stay tuned.

The idea of fasting is almost becoming a trend these days. We hear about it everywhere; intermittent fasts, 1 day, 2-day, even 5-day water fasts are quickly becoming part of our “healthy living” jargon. Yet, the idea is far from new. It dates back to our remote ancestors, and hunters and gatherers, and historically it has been linked with different cultures, and religious practices and rituals. Why? Did they know someone we don’t?
Studies have proven that to be quite possible and have shown us that abstinence from all food and drink except water and a few other exceptions, has incredible healing powers. In fact Japan’s Dr. Ohsumi’s research into the benefits of autophagy won him the Nobel Prize in 2016. I was fortunate to have been granted the rare opportunity to interview and chat with Dr. Ohsumi in his laboratory in Tokyo. (You can find the video here on my channel)
In an age and country where food is so accessible to us, and three meals a day (sometimes more!) is the norm for many of us, the idea of going without food for prolonged periods of time is something that some people can’t even think about, let alone attempt. Yet the health benefits are truly astounding.
In this video I want to give you a breakdown on what fasting can do for you. It’s much more than a trend and the benefits you can experience range from incredible mental alertness, and overall feelings of well-being, (even reducing feelings of depression and anxiety!), to weight loss, increased energy, increased muscle tone and improved immune health. The list is endless.
As someone who has experienced the amazing effects of fasting for the last 25 years, be it intermittent, or up to 5-day water fasts, I have experienced these benefits first hand and improved my health considerably.
In this video, I want to give you brief overview of just what fasting can do, in the words of the true authority on the subject. We’ll have many more videos coming up, educating you on the correct ways of attempting a fast and how to prepare for one.
I encourage you to take care and be wise. Fasting is not for everyone, and different people benefit from different types, so please be sure to subscribe and watch our upcoming videos (as well as my other videos here on my channel) where we’ll be giving you all the necessary information.
Thanks so much for watching, and please be sure to ask questions and leave comments, we love to hear from you!
To your health, happiness, and a better life. :)

How I hacked an ultramarathon by thinking like an entrepreneur | Phil Sanderson | TEDxBeaconStreet

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Phil Sanderson, an entrepreneur and venture capitalist, has run over 40 ultra marathons ranging from 31 to 100 miles. For the first time last September, he ran the Wasatch 100-miler in the Utah mountains with almost no training (don't try that at home). Sanderson explains how he hacked the race by drawing from an unlikely strategy-- entrepreneurship. Based on his work funding entrepreneurs, Sanderson identifies the fundamental hacking principles used by the most successful entrepreneurs -- and describes how he applied these principles to achieve his goal of finishing a 100-mile race in under 30 hours.

Phil Sanderson has been a venture capitalist for 18 years and is a partner at IDG Ventures in San Francisco. He is an ultra distance runner having competed in over 40 ultramarathons. Phil is Chairman of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists and the VCNetwork. He received an MBA from Harvard Business School.
