Panzer Wrecks in Bulgaria

In the dark days of the Cold War, communist Bulgaria fortified its border with Turkey, which was a member of the rival NATO alliance, by embedding scores of Soviet and Nazi tanks in a network of concrete bunkers.
The bunkers have been abandoned for years.
In 2004, Bulgaria joined NATO. The old German panzers were left rusting and all but forgotten. Many of them fell prey to scrap metal hunters, who, in many cases, have left little but the chassis of a tank intact.
More info to come.

World War II Tanks Used and Destroyed during battle

Let me take you on a historic journey of tanks destroyed during World War II. Watch the collection of remarkable historic photos I put together of the T-34, Tiger, Panter, M4A3E2 Sherman amongst others. There are so many photos taken of destroyed tanks and as a History enthusiast, I want to share them with you. I created several collections that I hope you will enjoy.

------------------------------------------------

Background History Of Destroyed Tanks During World War II You Should Know

During the war, 156.174 tanks were destroyed and with 83,500 the most tanks have been lost by the Soviet Union. Photographers were there every step of the way to capture the devastating losses.

Tanks played a special role during World War II. Equipment losses such as tanks refer to military equipment destroyed during World War II, the biggest, deadliest, and most costly war in the history of the world. Involving more than 30 countries.

History seems to have a fascination with tanks, for the crews it was like being in a tracked crematorium. Tanks played a special role during WWII they were used to support infantry and packed quite the punch. The Second World War saw armored clashes on a scale never seen before or since. Tanks were a significant factor in most of the main fighting theatres, from North Africa to Russia and northern France.

Some of the largest tank battles took place in the desperate struggle between Germany and Soviet Russia. The Russians had the T-34, a tank that was well-armed, versatile, and manufactured in huge numbers. Whilst German forces benefitted from the huge armaments of tanks like the Tiger.

The Amazing Find in a Abandoned Warehouse of World War II German War Aircraft

The hangar find planes were all used in the filming before finding their way into a warehouse and being largely forgotten about. This Messerschmitt BF 109, or more accurately, this Hispano Aviation HA-1112. Spaniards built licensed copies of the Messerschmitt from 1942 onwards, although they weren’t produced in any significant numbers till after the war due to constraints on the supply side.
An agreement was reached between Messerschmitt AG and the Spanish Government to supply the Spanish armed forces, the airframes were built from German designs in Spain while engines, propellers, instruments, and weapons were supplied from Messerschmitt.

Dornier 17 Wreck & Crew Still in British Field

A German Dornier 17 bomber was shot down over the small Essex village of Langenhoe on 3 September 1940, close to my home town of Colchester. Probably uniquely in the UK, 77 years later three members of the plane's crew are still believed to be inside the Dornier's wreck, which remains buried inside a huge crater in the beautiful Essex countryside.
The story of how this plane was brought down and how the crew were never recovered is a fascinating tale from the Battle of Britain from a corner of England that was in the front line in 1940. Enjoy.

The Ragtag Circus - The 83rd Division's Captured German Vehicles

Here's the story of the US 83rd Infantry Division that, being short of transport, used a wide variety of repainted German vehicles to race through Germany. On the way, they acquired, because of the enemy vehicles, the nickname of The Ragtag Circus.
