Himalayan Glacier Walk Training at HAWS | High Altitude Warfare School E3P2 | Veer by Discovery

Watch Indian Soldiers training in Himalayan Glacier. Trekking in glaciated terrains is no walk in the park with the heavy ice-walking shoes called Scarpas. Check out full episodes of Breaking Point High Altitude Warfare School:

The soldiers have to do exercises at immense heights and critically low temperatures in snow filled mountains to acclimatize themselves. It takes a lot of determination to walk with heavy Military Carbon Scarpa shoes on high altitudes. These shoes weigh approximately 4 kgs and have sharp metal blades that can severely injure the Jawans if they are not careful. Any cut with the crampon can result in 2-3 stitches on the leg. At glaciated terrain, it takes a lot of time to heal that cut.

Some of the highest battlefields like Siachen can be unforgiving even for the toughest soldiers; where low oxygen level and sub-zero temperatures make it one of the most hostile places to live in, let alone fight. At HAWS Gulmarg which is situated close to 9,000 feet above sea level, Indian Army men train to survive and fight in the world’s highest battleground at 20,000 feet.

How Indian Army Trained for Surprise Cliff Assault | High Altitude Warfare School E3P5

Watch this documentary on Veer Dola Exercise where jawans from the Indian Army are trained for surprise cliff assault. Check out full episodes of Breaking Point High Altitude Warfare School:

On the third and final day of Veer Dola exercise, Indian Army Jawans have to dislodge the enemy on top of a vertical cliff, from where they can see anyone approaching. Like the heroes of Kargil, jawans must attack from a direction, that takes the enemy by surprise as they would never expect anyone to take a route which is inconceivably tough with a vertical cliff.

The Veer Dola Exercise is a replication of battles that were fought on similar mountains and slopes, during the 1999 Kargil war. The name ‘Veer Dola’ is a tribute to the HAWS instructor Lance Naik Dola Ram, who made the ultimate sacrifice by setting up ropes on steep cliffs and making way for the army on the impassable mountains.
