The pressure tests and claims made on these check-valves is based solely on my personal experiences with the ones demonstrated in the video. Individual results may vary, and caution and care should be taken when loading the valves with high pressure. The risk of higher pressures is that the balls may be forced from the adaptor, shooting out like projectiles. High pressures may also cause the ball to lock up, preventing normal operation of the valve, or possibly even structural failure of the valve altogether. I wanted to build a PVC water pump, but the check valves were around $10.00 each. That seemed a little steep for a PVC build, so while looking for alternative options, I settled on this design, which is about the cheapest, while still being practical and useful, that I could imagine.

In my testing, the valves work great with air and water. Air pressures up to 60PSI seemed to be fine for normal operation, while pressures above 60PSI occasionally caused the ball to lock into the O-Ring, and required substantial back-pressure to unlock it.

If you try using rubber bouncy balls as the valve mechanism, only use them in very low pressure applications like blowing up balloons, and possibly for improvised water guns. Relatively high pressures used with these balls seems to eventually force them out of the adaptor, and can shoot them out at surprising velocities.

Overall, I'm really happy with the valves because they can be fit into any part of a PVC system, and can be duplicated quickly, easily, and for very very low cost.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that finds numerous applications. The best known brand name of PTFE is Teflon by DuPont Co.

PTFE is a fluorocarbon solid, as it is a high-molecular-weight compound consisting wholly of carbon and fluorine. PTFE is hydrophobic: neither water nor water-containing substances wet PTFE, as fluorocarbons demonstrate mitigated London dispersion forces due to the high electronegativity of fluorine. PTFE has one of the lowest coefficients of friction against any solid.

PTFE is used as a non-stick coating for pans and other cookware. It is very non-reactive, partly because of the strength of carbon--fluorine bonds, and so it is often used in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive chemicals. Where used as a lubricant, PTFE reduces friction, wear, and energy consumption of machinery. It is also commonly used as a graft material in surgical interventions.

It is commonly believed that Teflon is a spin-off product from the NASA space projects. Though it has been used by NASA, the assumption is incorrect.[2]

Build Info For 36/50 caliber 20/28 Shot Breach/Muz

Pics and additional info can be viewed on under pneumatic cannon showcase and in this discription. Homemade totally off the shelf re-purposed muzzleloader. It's being fired with 250 to 300 psi air from a good quality 250 psi stirrup pump or my re-purposed 30# propane tank with pop-off protection set at 315 psi or a 20# propane tank with pop off set at 375 psi. The 300 to 400 psi air is obtained by piggybacking an R-22 compressor onto a 120 psi shop air compressor. The lowest pressure rated component in the system is the Alpha QEV rated at max 250 psi with a burst pressure of 2 to 3 times that. With a properly rated homemade piston valve the operating pressure could easily be quadrupled. A .495 ball is just large enough to feed through the 1/2 opening in the receiver. The QEV is an Alpha 5UPH4. The trigger is a 1/8 push button vent valve used as a pilot valve. This gun is also a fine arrow launcher and conical bullet muzzle loader. It makes a pretty decent shotgun at 10 to 15 yards with a 184 to 552 grain shot load. i have added a CO2 system and am firing it at 400 psi now. You don't have to use a schrader, foster, quick connect or ball valve on the supply air to the QEV if you use a small orifice in that fitting. The orifice will prevent the supply air from interfering with the venting of the 1/8 vent valve since it slows down the pressure build up to the accumulator tank which allows the vent valve to stay ahead of any pressure buildup on the pilot side of the QEV. By keeping supply pressure on the pilot side of the QEV at all times during firing the safety of the QEV is way mo betta! This gun also has only three moving parts to keep it simple reliable and easy to build. It is reminiscent of the the Red Ryder gravity fed bb guns. Remember if you add a spring a large portion of the magazine is wasted. Also since you have to wait a couple of seconds for the accumulator to recharge anyway you can use this time to tip the gun and gravity feed a round. Just keeping it simple. The annular space around the bolt is so small I had to sand the bolt down for a smooth fit and the stainless steel tee has a smooth and consistent diameter throughout. Also the volume of air in the chamber overwhelms the tiny amount of leakage around the bolt. I actually shot a single shot with the bolt out and the receiver hole plugged tight and didn't get a noticeable difference in performance. The tiny amount of air escaping there also helps
to keep the tight fitting bolt clean. I guess this wouldn't work too good if the gun was using 3000 psig air and only burping out a few cc's of air by hammer valve action. It's much less problematic to spew out 10cc's of 300 psi air than 1cc of 3000 psi air. You have the same amount of energy in each release. simply make the bullet larger in diameter to harness the lower pressure.

My ammunition keeps rolling out of my barrel, how do I solve this?

how I solved that problem:

1. if you have a barrel with a loading hole in it. (to put marbles and ball bearings in)

you can simply solve this problem with a drop of glue. you put the ball bearing in and it will be prevented from rolling by a bit of glue blocking it. (make sure you can still shoot, not too much glue!)

I use this for my first advanced airgun.

2. If you have a metal or even plastic barrel with no loading hole. simply squize the barrel a little bit so the ammunition gets stuck weherever you want.

I use this on all of my airguns exept the first advanced.

'Lane Regulators' Basic Principals of Airgun PCP Regulation (Old Video).

A 'Regulator' just provides a sauce of 'Air' at a 'Near Constant Pressure' to the 'Outlet Valve Assembly'. A 'Regulator' can be simply installed with good effect into most airguns, improving shot count and shot to shot FPS (Feet Per Second) consistency, with the minimum amount of alterations.

However to extract every last possible shot available from the energy stored in the 'Reservoir (Tank)' can be very fiddly and time consuming process. Regulation to a profession standard is more of a skill / art learned through practice, more than it is a science.

Unless your days are spent 'Regulating' exactly the same make of rifle day in day out, you are likely to find that each Make & Model can be quite different.

Hopefully I will do a (Part 2 - Maybe 3) two this video and talk in more detail about what your Power Graphs tell you about your regulator fitting and how to alter it and how to get better FPS from your Airgun & Regulator for FT Shooting.

The generator requires electricity to electrolyze H2O (water) into gas. The resulting mixed gas is sometimes referred to as Oxy-Hydrogen gas, which is 2 parts Hydrogen (H2) and 1 part Oxygen (O2). I typically hook this up to my car battery while the vehicle is running, so the alternator takes most of the load. On 12 volts I get about 1.5 liters/minute, but when I want to make the gas faster, I hook 2 car batteries in series for 24 volts, and this exponentially increases the gas production to over 5 liters per minute.

Current draw seems to be around 20-50 amps depending on whether you use 12-24 volts. High current draws mean the electrolyte heats up, and if left too long the plastic can warp or melt causing structural failure.

Some people ask why the plates aren't all electrically connected. The plates that aren't connected are called floater plates, or neutral plates. There is too much information to post about them here, so do a google search, or check out websites like for an in depth explanation of the theory.

I used KOH as my electrolyte because research suggested it was the best. I haven't experimented with other electrolytes, but have heard that salt, sodium hydroxide, vinegar, etc could work, but will dirty and may corrode the plates. Potassium Hydroxide keeps the system clean, however, it is caustic, so be careful if you choose to use it. You can probably get away with about 2-4 teaspoons of KOH per 6 liters of water.

This system produces an extremely powerful OxyHydrogen gas. When the gas is used, it simply turns back into water, and that's good for the environment. However I believe it takes more electric energy to produce the gas than is obtained from the gas. This device merely converts the energy from one form to another, with given losses.

As long as you have enough electricity, the amount of water already in this system is enough to produce thousands and thousands of liters of fuel. Some people say this is the fuel of the future. Either way, it's a very powerful gas!

How To Use A Fire Piston

The fire piston is a very unique and effective device for making fire. This clever fire starter uses the rapid compression of air to create an internal temperature of over 500 degrees... hot enough to easily ignite char cloth, as well as certain natural materials found in-the-field. As with any fire-starting method, practice and knowledge of basic fire making principles are recommended prior to use. All-in-all, the fire piston is a great alternate, backup, or even primary means to get a fire going.

How to Use Conventional Spray-gun Systems

There are several types of conventional spray systems. The low-pressure system uses a gun attached to the pot directly, and is used for smaller jobs requiring high degree of control.

The high pressure system pressurizes the paint and the air, and consists of a large pot, and hoses for the air and paint. This system is used for larger areas.

Both systems depend on a pressurized air supply from a compressor. The air is mixed with the paint at the orifice and atomises to create a fine even mist. Therefore, conventional spray systems are mainly used for solvent-based paints requiring a high quality fine finish.

Set --Up procedure

Attach the materials hose to the pot and tighten using a spanner.

The amount of air can be adjusted by turning the air flow valve in or out.

The amount of paint can be controlled by adjusting the fluid control screw.

The fan control screw adjusts the fan width and pattern.

Pour the paint into the pot. Measure and add solvent to thin the paint according to manufacturers directions.Mix thoroughly

Secure the pot lid and tighten by hand.

Attach the air hose from the compressor to the pot. Adjust the regulator to the desired pressure. This is usually about 45 -60 psi.

Application Procedure

Use the correct respirator filter for the product.

Apply the paint using an even side-to-side motion. The gun should be kept at an even distance from the surface at all times, and the spray-gun should be kept moving the entire time. Overlap each stroke by 50%.

The air-cap can be adjusted to direct the spray-pattern vertically, or horizontally. This is done by simply twisting the cap.

Regularly check the finish to ensure the paint is being applied evenly and sufficiently.

Application techniques

It is better to build up the coating with several coats than to apply one heavy coat. Insufficient movement of the gun will result in a high build up of paint, leading to sagging and runs.

The gun should be maintained at a constant distance from the surface, and the spray pattern should be an even, slightly oval shape.

Pull the trigger just before the spray-gun passes over the surface, and release it after a full pass of the surface. Do not start or stop half-way across the surface. Keep the gun moving at all times.

Clean-up procedures

On completion of the work, release the pressure on the pot. You should be able to see the pressure drop by checking the regulator guage. Once the pressure is released, open the pot lid.
Pour the excess paint back into a suitable container.

Clean the pot using a compatible solvent. Spray solvent through the gun until it sprays clear.

Clean the air cap and remove the needle. Once the needle has been cleaned replace it. All paint should be cleaned carefully from the gun to ensure trouble-free service. However, do not immerse the gun in solvent.
