Parkinson's Law - Manage Your Time More Effectively

Parkinson's Law - Manage Your Time More Effectively

Let me introduce you to the Parkinson's Law.
The law states this: Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.

Essentially the more time you have to complete something, the longer it will take you to finish it.
And the less time you have to complete your goal, the more likely it is that you'll complete it in proposed time.
But if a goal or a task does not have a specific deadline set, it will most likely never get done.

In this video you'll learn how to use the Parkinson's Law to your advantage and manage your time more effectively thanks to it.

THIS IS HOW I MANAGE MY TIME FOR SUCCESS

(Table of contents in description) 2021 is the year that our lives change for better by choice. In 2018 I was discharged from the United States Army barely being able to walk. I spent all of 2019 figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. Being a single father of 2 boys my time was limited, but I moved forward and found my passion in making YouTube Videos. Today I am going strong and regularly striding towards all of my life goals as a single parent. My life changed for the better by effective time management. I am getting married, I have a passion, and I have my kids with me. Life is almost perfect except I am still stuck to my full time job and I barely have enough time to reach my goals... yet I still get ahead. For all the single parents out there, and for all the people going through a rough patch in their lives, I made this video to help you guys out sharing the time management tips that let me get ahead.

Before we get to far into it, below are some of the equipment that I use to make my videos:

Here is a link to TubeBuddy, I swear by it and it allows me to rank really well in YouTube search for all the videos I make (Check it out!):

Here is the link for the Stop Procrastinating Video

This video was really made for a number of reasons, I've always wondered how do successful people manage their time and how to manage time as a single father. After a lot of trial and error I figured it out.

So, in this video I wanted to break down time management as a single parent to reach all of your goals in life. Of course, these are tips that work just as well if you are not a single parent.

But what are some time management tips for working parents and overworked people in general? First, sacrifice time now in order to have more time later in your life. It is absolutely vital to sacrifice some free time now. In my life I have found that if I worked my hourly job and came home just to do nothing or relax, I would never get ahead. So no matter what your goal is, you need to work hard outside of work. I believe that this is the best way to manage your time to reach your goals.

My second tip for your is put down your phone. You can't get ahead in life if when you get home you get lost in social media for hours. Before you know it the day will be over and so will your life. I know that's deep, but it's true. Work hard now, get rid of those small distractions and never give-up.

What time management tips actually work and how to multiply your time for success? First off, you need to manage your time on a daily basis and also on a long term basis (weekly, monthly, yearly, and lifelong).

First off, there are two things you need to manage time for: -Managing your time for acticivites that will allow you to reach your goals. AND -managing your time to knock out tasks that prevent you from working on goal reaching activities..

You can do this by:

1) Making a checklist of all activities on a daily basis that need to get done in order to reach your goals. Get in the habit of not relaxing or resting until all of those items are done each day.

2) Scheduling your day - Just make a spread sheet to help you determine what you will do during each portion of time in your day. Example: between 8 - 8:30 you will get ready for the day and from 8:30 - 9:00 you will drive to work.

Next, get in the habit of not procrastinating. Just like with the checklist, get in the habit of working until you have no more tasks left... then work on the things important to you.

At this time, I ran out of time in the description to finish the TRANSCRIPT!!!!

How to Prioritize Tasks Effectively: GET THINGS DONE ✔

Learn how to manage your tasks effectively for school, work, social and life - so you know how to be productive with your time. By knowing how get things done effectively you can improve your time management skills and become more productive.

Do you have a lot of things to do, but you’re feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start? This video will show you a simple way to prioritize your tasks in the right order, so you can be more productive and have time for the things that matters in your life.

There are 2 factors that define what we do: urgent and important.
- Urgent means that it requires your attention right now and has immediate consequences.
- Important is anything that helps us achieve our own long-term goals and values. These are the things that will have a big impact on your life. However, since they do not have a clear deadline and the consequences of not doing them doesn't appear right away, it's easier to tell yourself you'll do it later”.

The first step is of prioritizing is to write a list of all the things you need to get done.
The next step is to put each task on your list into one of the following categories:

*THE EISENHOWER MATRIX*
Steven Covey also wrote about this process in his book 7 habits of highly effective people. This method helps you to quickly identify the activities that you should focus on when you’re under time pressure and it keeps you on track with your long-term goals.

BOX 1: important and urgent
Example: project deadlines, medical emergencies and problems.
Strategy: Do it NOW.

BOX 2: –important and not urgent
Example: health, relationships and dreams.
Strategy: Schedule and do it as soon as possible.

BOX 3: urgent and not important activities
Example: interruptions, random phone calls/texts, unimportant emails.
Strategy: Reschedule or delegate

BOX 4: not urgent and not important
Example: watching TV, checking social media and other time wasters.
Strategy: Do it later or avoid it completely!

Once you know your priorities, organize your life around them. Your actions reflect your priorities and in order to say yes to them, you have to be willing to say no to something else. We all have 24 hours. You always have time to do what you believe is important. It's about respecting your time. And setting your priorities right is a great way to start!

Thank you for watching and I'll talk to you next time! :)

To change your life – change your priorities.
