Google Coding Interview With A High School Student

In this video, I conduct a mock Google coding interview with a high school student, William Lin, who's also a competitive programmer. As a Google Software Engineer, I interviewed dozens of candidates. This is exactly the type of coding interview that you would get at Google or any other big tech company.

Check out the other Google coding interview that we filmed on William's channel:

Google Software Engineer Interview - The Basics!

▶️ Mock Interview Services Available - Visit -

Item #1 - Information - Get as much info as you can from the Recruiter / Hiring Manager about the technical areas that will be covered, what tools you will be using (computer vs whiteboard), and does the company provide mock interviews

Item #2 - Complexity - Based on the tools you will be using, this will help you understand how complex your code can be (whiteboard coding will not be as complex for instance)

Item #3 - Practice - Use pramp.com and if you will be using a whiteboard, buy one!

Item #4 - Clarification - Re-ask/Make sure the question is clear and ask a ton of follow up questions

Item #5 - Thinking Through It - Come up with a solution before coding!!

Item #6 - Testing/Edge Case - You need to test your code and come up with edge cases, not taking this steps is common feedback from interviewers on two critical items that are often overlooked

Item #7 - Be an Extrovert - The more you talk out loud, the better, this will help your interviewer understand your thought process and help them to engage and be more engaged in the interview

Item #8 - Fundamentals - Often overlooked, fundamentals will come up during the interview, you need to go back and study these items

No need to put this as an item, good code is critical! But if you do these other items well, you will still get the job over somebody that codes better, but did not take all these steps.

This is what a Computer Scientist needs to get a job at Google.

My name is Benyam Ephrem and I am a 2nd year student at the University of Maryland College Park. I study Computer Science.

My intent for this is to share my experiences going through the interviewing process for software engineering internships. I feel that there is a lack of resources that clearly explain what the process is like and what it takes to pass a technical interview at Big N companies.

Just as a disclaimer...you might not need to do this. You might get a return offer or you might get very straightforward questions. What I talk about here is the common experience and the things that are required for one to get an offer the normal way.
