Covid-19: Why is vaccination not open for all in India? Health Secretary answers

Amid demands of opening COVID-19 vaccination of all age groups, the union health ministry on Tuesday stated that the aim of the vaccination drive is to administer the vaccine to those who need it and not to those who want it. Many people ask why we shouldn't open vaccination for all. There are two aims of such vaccination drives -- to prevent deaths and protect the healthcare system. The aim is not to administer the vaccine to those who want it but to those who need it, said Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan while addressing a press conference on the current COVID-19 situation in the country. DNA: Sputnik-V Vaccine है India में COVID-19 Vaccine Shortage का हल? |Coronavirus Vaccine Hindi News

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) on Monday (April 12) approved Dr Reddy's application for the emergency use of Russia's Sputnik-V vaccine. It is worth noting that Sputnik-V is the third COVID-19 vaccine to be officially approved after Covishield and Covaxin.

Information Regarding COVID-19 Vaccine - Everything you need to know about Covaxin and Covishield

Is it mandatory to take the vaccine?
Vaccination for COVID-19 is voluntary. However, it is advisable to receive the complete schedule of COVID-19 vaccine for protecting one-self against this disease and also to limit the spread of this disease to the close contacts including family members, friends, relatives and co-workers.

Will the vaccine be safe as it is being tested and introduced in a short span of time?
Vaccines will be introduced in the country only after the regulatory bodies clear it based on its safety and efficacy.

Is it necessary for a COVID recovered person to take the vaccine?
Yes, it is advisable to receive complete schedule of COVID vaccine irrespective of past history of infection with COVID-19. This will help in developing a strong immune response against the disease.

Out of the multiple vaccines available, how is one or more vaccine chosen for administration?
The safety and efficacy data from clinical trials of vaccine candidates are examined by Drug regulator of our country before granting the license for the same. Hence, all the COVID-19 vaccines that receive license will have comparable safety and efficacy. However, it must be ensured that the entire schedule of vaccination is completed by only one type of vaccine as different COVID-19 vaccines are not interchangeable.

Will the vaccine introduced in India be as effective as the ones introduced in other countries?
Yes. The COVID-19 vaccine introduced in India will be as effective as any vaccine developed by other countries. Various phases of vaccine trials are undertaken to ensure its safety and efficacy.

If one is taking medicines for illnesses like Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension etc, can s/he take the COVID-19 vaccine?
Yes. Persons with one or more of these comorbid conditions are considered high risk category. They need to get COVID-19 vaccination.

What about the possible side-effects from COVID-19 vaccine?
COVID vaccine will be introduced only when the safety is proven. As is true for other vaccines, the common side effects in some individuals could be mild fever, pain, etc. at the site of injection. States have been asked to start making arrangements to deal with any Covid-19 vaccine-related side-effects as one of the measures towards safe vaccine delivery among masses.

Niti Aayog Assures '3 More COVID19 Vaccines In Pipeline' As India Fast-Tracks Approval Process

#Centre #COVID19 #Vaccine #RepublicTV

Amid a record surge in the number of COVID-19 cases reported across India, the Centre has decided to fast-track the Emergency Approvals for COVID-19 vaccines produced outside India that have been granted Emergency Utilisation Authorisation (EUA) in other countries in order to expand the domestic vaccine basket and increase the pace of vaccination.

Centre's move to fast-track the EUAs for COVID-19 vaccines manufactured aborad comes after Russia's Sputnik V received the SEC & DCGI's nod earlier on Monday and Tuesday for emergency use. The matter of augmenting the Basket of Vaccines available for fighting the pandemic as well as to accelerate the pace & coverage of domestic vaccination programme was discussed in the 23rd meeting of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC) held on 11th April 2021, chaired by Dr. V K Paul, Member (Health), Niti Aayog. The decision is expected to facilitate quicker access to such foreign vaccines by India & would encourage imports including import of bulk drug material, optimal utilization of domestic fill and finish capacity etc., which will in-turn provide a fillip to vaccine manufacturing capacity and total vaccine availability for domestic, the release said.

As per a top government source's word to ANI, India will receive vaccines from 4 additional manufacturers by the third quarter this year, apart from the three so far. These include Johnson & Johnson's vaccine (with Biological E), Novovax (with SII, as mentioned above), Zydus Cadila's vaccine and an intranasal vaccine by Bharat Biotech.
