How To Increase Neuroplasticity EASY

Welcome to Triumph with Trent! In this video, I share with you how to improve your neuroplasticity to increase the number of synapse connections your brain is developing.

Neuroplasticity - also known as brain plasticity, or neural plasticity, is the ability of the brain to undergo biological changes, ranging from the cellular level all the way to large-scale changes involving cortical remapping. Such changes often happen as a result of psychological experiences.

1️⃣ Continue Learning⠀
You can continue to improve your cognition by taking a new route, learning an instrument or language, switching to your non-dominant foot or hand for tasks, and finding a new routine to adapt to. The new synapse connections will be strengthened by active use. ⠀

2️⃣ Reduce Stress⠀
Stress dampens neuroplasticity in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex while increasing it in the amygdala. Maintain a healthy foundation in your lifestyle by getting adequate sleep, exercise, nutrients, and maintaining your environmental factors.⠀

3️⃣ Exercise⠀
Physical activity is one of the best ways to not only reduce stress but boost BDNF. You can do any form of exercise either strenuous activity or light aerobic exercise. Change up the activities to learn new skills like climbing and martial arts or travel new routes running or biking.⠀

4️⃣ Sleep & Visualization⠀
Sleep provides a cleanse for the brain, giving you the opening necessary to lay down new connections, form new memories, and learn new skills. Once you lay down for the night try visualizing a task or circumstance to improve neuroplasticity. Neuroscience shows mental rehearsals will activate the brain and central nervous system in the same way as actually performing tasks in the real world.⠀

5️⃣ Meditation⠀
Self awareness is so powerful when developing any new behavior. Once you’re more aware of your surroundings and thoughts, and when you’re more awakened to what’s happening in your brain and consciousness, you’ll be more likely to make value-based decisions. The more control you have over your decisions and actions, the more new neuropathways you will create for yourself.

Rewiring Revolution:Neuroplasticity's Impact on Wellbeing | Kristen Meisenheimer | TEDxSanLuisObispo

If you were given the choice to live a less stressful and more fulfilling life, wouldn’t you? As it
turns out, you are given that choice every time adversity strikes. By realizing the power of your
thoughts and utilizing the plasticity of your brain, one can practice skills that can help to rewire
the negative habitual thinking patterns that can ultimately result in mental and emotional ill
health. A distinguished faculty member with 18 years of teaching experience. This year she chose to take a break from teaching and follow a deep-rooted passion in neuroscience research for a one year intensive program at Vanderbilt’s Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery in Nashville, TN. She is traveling across the country to enlighten our attendees to the health benefits that can come from utilizing the brain’s neuroplasticity. Through the progression of the talk she will define neuroplasticity, use case studies to demonstrate its function within the brain, teach the audience how to identify opportunities for reprogramming one’s neurologic pathways that will reduce stress, and how to use this unique feature of the brain to improve general mental health of any individual. How neuroplasticity helps us shape who we become | André Vermeulen | TEDxJohannesburg

NOTE FROM TED: This talk, which was filmed at an independent TEDx event, appears to fall outside TEDx’s content guidelines. The speaker’s claims around neuroscience and energy are not supported by credible scientific evidence. The guidelines we give our TEDx organizers are described in more detail here:

Is it possible for us to rewire our brains? Yes, says neuroscientist André Vermeulen. Take his example of a woman in China who was admitted to hospital because of a neurological condition. Tests revealed that, astonishingly, her brain was missing a cerebellum – a part of the brain that gives us balance, coordinated movement, and controls certain aspects of our speech. The cerebellum is also home to fifty percent of the brain cells of humans, so it’s clearly not an insignificant part of our physiology. Amazingly, other than some persistent nausea and vertigo, the woman led a functionally normal life. So, how did her brain compensate? How was it possible that someone could have a relatively full life with half of their brain cells missing? Well, according to André, the brain has a remarkable ability to rewire itself, and it does so specifically so that we can survive and thrive in our worlds. All we need to do is put in the time and intensity that it takes to carve new neurological pathways, that will lead to our desired outcomes, and allow us to out-think our circumstances. This phenomenon, called neuroplasticity, means that it is possible for our brains to replace old negative behaviour patterns with new constructive alternatives, whatever they are. André drives the point home with a list of the three things we need to do to change our brains. By taking control of our thoughts, he says, we can shape who we become. Dr. André Vermeulen is founding member and CEO of Neuro-Link, a boutique consultancy utilizing applied neuroscience to develop talent, increase performance and maintain wellness. He is a global thought leader in how neuro-agility can improve performance. André has developed and patented cutting edge neuro-agility assessments and applied neuroscience learning solutions that are used by children in education, and adults in business and sports across the globe. He has published more than 43 leading articles on the development implications of the brain and mental health. Women In STEM Speaker Series with special guest Dr. Kelly Lambert

What can we learn from rats about parenting?

Beliefs about parenting are shaped by experience, the media, and traditional roles. But what if scientific evidence lead us to think differently about the roles of nurturing and parenting in mothers and fathers? Perhaps the lines between the sexes in relation to child-rearing are not really that distinctive.

Dr. Kelly Lambert’s ground-breaking research on parenting with female and male rodents has shown that female rats, after giving birth, become better foragers, sharper, and more courageous. Lambert’s research goes even further and answers the question: what about the dads? Her results may surprise you, and shake your notions of nature versus nurture.

WHAT IS BRAIN EDUCATION TV?
Brain Education TV provides mental health and mental wellness videos to help young adults with loneliness, depression, and anxiety. The foundation of our content comes from Brain Education, an academic study from South Korea that stems from over 40 years of research and application and has been practiced by millions around the world.

WHY WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH…
We suffered from high-functioning loneliness and depression our whole lives. We lived different lives in different states, but when we met, we realized we were struggling with common issues that reflected an important problem in our young adult generation. We didn’t know who we were, what we were passionate about, what we should live for, and what direction our lives were “supposed” to go. We spent a lot of time wandering in search of that magical ‘answer’ that will solve all problems (like I’m sure most of you are doing right now), and yet the further we searched outside, the more pronounced the emptiness inside of us felt.

Millions of people suffer silently from mental health related issues. Yet our society still places taboos around openly talking about relevant mental health topics like loneliness, depression, and anxiety. As a result, our young adults don’t know how to talk about it constructively, where to turn to, or what resources they have to combat this real-life threat to their wellbeing.

We credit Brain Education for giving us the courage to overcome our own mental health struggles and create the lives we want...and now we hope you can too through the videos we share on this channel.

The 5 stages of neuroplastic healing

Grab the free e-book that I mentioned in the video here:

__
At two separate times in my private practice I have had two different people (they didn’t know on another) express some pretty big frustration in their attempts to meditate. Both said the same thing to me, and this is a direct quote:

“...(trying to meditate) was like being locked in a dark room with an angry man screaming at me.”

I will never forget those words, nor the visual that came with them.

This vignette leads directly into this topic of neuroplastic healing sequencing and why it is so darn important to understand. It is especially important for us if we want to get off the spinning wheel of only coping and managing the symptoms and struggles that plague us over and over again, instead of actually moving past those symptoms.

Put another way, if you want to heal for real, then understanding (and eventually practicing) what is in this week’s video is mandatory for lifelong wellness and liberation.
