Training of Para SF Commando | Toughest Military Training in India | Veer by Discovery

To become a Para SF commando, soldiers have to go through one of the toughest military training in India. Watch this documentary from Veer by Discovery to see the 36 hours stress test for Para Special Forces.

In the 36 hours stress test during Para SF training, commandos are tested beyond their physical limits and mental fears. They are kept sleep deprived with only 2 hours of sleep. The commandos are tested with a continuous series of grueling exercise, a simulated battle situation. And when the body starts giving up, they have to do a speed march of 10 KM with a 30 KG battle load and their personal weapons.

Apart from specialized weapons training and tactical warfare training, the commandos in Para Special Forces training are put through a tremendous amount of physical and psychological stress.

Indian Soldiers Training for Survival in Snowy Mountains | High Altitude Warfare School E3P1

Indian Soldiers have to go through immense mental and physical conditioning to become expert mountain warriors. Watch the HAWS training for survival in snowy mountains. Check out full episodes of Breaking Point High Altitude Warfare School:

The soldiers have to do exercises at immense heights and critically low temperatures in snow filled mountains to acclimatize themselves for guarding the difficult terrains of Indian border in the Himalayan region. After physical drills, soldiers have to learn the basics of ice craft. In this episode, HAWS instructors are teaching them how to prepare base using Dead Man's Anchor technique in the soft snow filled, slippery areas.

Some of the highest battlefields like Siachen can be unforgiving even for the toughest soldiers; where low oxygen level and sub-zero temperatures make it one of the most hostile places to live in, let alone fight. At HAWS Gulmarg which is situated close to 9,000 feet above sea level, Indian Army men train to survive and fight in the world’s highest battleground at 20,000 feet.

Operation Cactus | The Phone Call That Went on for 18 Hours | Battle Ops | Veer by Discovery

Wondering why a phone call would continue for 18 hours during Operation Cactus? The telephone line of Maldives Foreign Secretary was the only source of contact for mission planning. Check out more videos from Operation Cactus in 1988:

आपरेशन कैक्टस के दौरान एक फोन कॉल 18 घंटे तक क्यों चलती रही? मालदीव के विदेश सचिव का टेलीफोन लाइन मिशन की गुप्त योजना के लिए भारत और मालदीव के बीच में संपर्क का एकमात्र स्रोत था।

Operation Cactus was one of a kind as it was the first mission by Indian Military on a foreign land. The telephone exchange was under attack and in control of the rebels. There were very few telephone lines working at that time. And if this call was disconnected and then reconnected a red light would switch on and off in the telephone exchange. To avoid any detection by the rebels who were attempting a coup against the then Maldives President, this call was never disconnected and continued for 18 hours.

Special Forces of India
Indian Army

Para (Special Forces

The unit was created in 1966 by the Indian Army. During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, a small ad hoc force comprising volunteers from most infantry units from North India under Maj Megh Singh of the Brigade of the Guards, operated along and behind enemy lines. The performance of this force made the powers that be sit up and take notice of the contribution and necessitated the raising of unconventional forces. Forming the nucleus of the new force from the volunteers of the then-disbanded Meghdoot Force, a battalion was raised to be part of the Brigade of Guards, but paratrooping being an integral part of commando tactics, the unit was transferred to the Parachute Regiment. Raised in July 1966, 9th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (Commando) was the first special operations unit.
Exactly to the date, 1st July, 1967, 10 Para Commando was raised by splitting 9 Para Commando at Gwalior. The Para Commandos were first deployed in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, with 9 Para Cdo capturing the heavy gun battery at Mandhol in Poonch, J&K. They took part in the 1984 Operation Blue Star. They were deployed in Sri Lanka in 1980s during India's involvement in the civil war, codenamed Operation Pawan. They also saw action in the Operation Cactus in 1988 in Maldives and in the 1999 Kargil War.
The list of PARA (SF) Battalions are:
• 1 PARA (SF) (raised 1961, converted to para role in 1945, became part of para regt in 1952, converted to commando in 1978)
• 2 PARA (SF) (ex-3 Maratha LI, converted to special forces in 1999.)
• 3 PARA (SF) (ex-1st Kumaon, converted to special forces in 2000)
• 4 PARA (SF) (raised 1961, converted to special forces in 2001)
• 9 PARA (SF) (raised in 1966, the first dedicated special forces unit of the Indian Army)
• 10 PARA (SF) (raised 1967)
• 11 PARA (SF) (raised 2011)
• 21 PARA (SF) (raised 1996)

Indian Navy
MARCOS

This unit was created in 1987 by the Indian Navy. They saw action during Operation Pawan in 1988. They were a part of Operation Cactus in 1988. They have also been deployed in Wular Lake which was a major infiltration point for terrorists.
During the 2008 Mumbai Attacks, MARCOS had participated in the operations along with the National Security Guards. The MARCOS, which had a base in Alibag, could have been called in much earlier, but were delayed due to bureaucratic indecision. The MARCOS are capable of undertaking operations in all types of terrain, but are specialised in maritime operations. The force has undertaken numerous joint exercises with special forces from around the world.

Indian Air Force
Garud Commando Force

It is an Indian Air Force unit which was unveiled in February 2004. It primarily protects Indian Air Force installations from terrorist attacks.
Garud trainees undergo a 72-week probation training course, which is the longest among all the Indian special forces. The total duration of training before a trainee can qualify as a fully operational Garud is around three years.
Garuds have diverse responsibilities. Besides base protection force to protect airfields and key assets in hostile environments, some advanced Garud units are trained like Army Para Commandos and the Naval MARCOS to undertake missions deep behind enemy lines.[6]
During hostilities, Garuds undertake combat search and rescue, rescue of downed airmen and other forces from behind enemy lines, suppression of enemy air defence (SEAD), radar busting, combat control, missile and munitions guidance (lasing of targets) and other missions in support of air operations. It has been suggested that they undertake an offensive role including raids on enemy air bases etc. during times of war. Apart from protecting air bases from sabotage and attacks by commando raids, they are also tasked to seal off weapons systems, fighter hangars and other major systems during intrusions and conflicts.
Note: The security of IAF installations such as radars, airfields and other establishments near border areas are generally performed by Air Force Police and Defence Security Corps(DSC).

Operation Cactus | How Indian Paratroopers Entered in Maldives | Battle Ops | Veer by Discovery

Do you know how Indian paratroopers entered in the Maldives to prevent the coup against President Gayoom? The plane carrying Indian commandos had to land on an airport with no lights and a very short runway.

In 1988 India launched Operation Cactus to intervene in Maldives political crisis. Operation Cactus was the first mission led by Indian Armed forces on foreign land. On request of Maldives foreign minister, Indian Armed forces took swift action to prevent the Maldives coup and restored order in the country.

Generally, SPG Special Agents assigned to the Prime Ministerial Security wear black Western-style formal business suits, with dark sunglasses, a 2-way encrypted communication earpiece, and concealed handguns. Rarely, on traditional occasions, they wear safari suits to blend into the environment.

SPG Uniformed Officers are dressed like Special operations commandos, with much more noticeable armament. Their personal equipment include ultra-modern assault rifles, dark-visor goggles/sunglasses with inbuilt communication earpieces, bulletproof vests, gloves and elbow/knee pads.

Weapons Carried by SPG personnels are -
1)Uniformed Officers carry FN Herstal F2000 and Glock 17 or 19.
2)Special Agents carry FN Herstal Five-seveN, FN Herstal P90 and Glock 17 or 19.

The Prime Minister's motorcade comprises a fleet of vehicles, the core of which consists of at least three armoured BMW 7 Series sedans, two armoured Range Rovers, at least 8-10 BMW X5s, six Toyota Fortuners/Land Cruisers and at least two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ambulances, besides many more escort vehicles a Tata Safari ECM car also accompanies the convoy which is used to counter guided attacks, such as IEDs, Rocket Propelled Grenades, and Anti-Tank Guided Missiles. The antennas mounted on the roof are solely used in barrage jamming applications, the primary method used to counter IED threats. There are two dome-shaped EW Sensors. The EW sensors are millimetre-wave radars used to detect the launch of an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenades) or laser range finder illumination and launch of an Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM).

Protecting India's Sea Trade | Guardians Of The Coast | Veer by Discovery

About 95% of India's trade activities take place through the oceans. The Bay Of Bengal has been an active trade route for years. But the waters are now infested by smugglers that feed upon the nation's economy. The Indian Coast Guard does everything in its power to protect the territorial water. And they receive a helping hand from the local untrained fishermen. They know the sea better than anyone which makes them the best network of informers. The lionhearted guards investigate every case that is brought to their notice.

Veer by Discovery brings to you a series about the Guardians who are dedicated to serve and protect the Indian Coast. ‘Guardians of the Coast’ is a series about the Indian Coast Guard, who serve one of the longest and busiest coastlines in the world. With the Motto ‘Vayam Rakshamah’ – which translates from Sanskrit as ‘We Protect’, these heroes lay their lives on the line everyday to serve our country. The show explains how Indian Coast Guard plays a pivotal role in India’s defense against unfriendly sea dwellers and foreign hostile forces. India Coast Guard not only protects the oceanic wealth such as oil reserves, sea trading etc. but also extends assistance to marine habitats and mariners in distress while enforcing Maritime Law in the sea.

Indian Submariners E2P4 - Quick Reaction Team of Submariners | Breaking Point | Veer by Discovery

Veer by Discovery presents a documentary on Quick Reaction Team of Indian Navy Submariners. Watch Harman taking part in a simulated action at Naval ports that are always a high-risk zone.

After finishing the theory classes and training session at Indian Navy Submarine School, the trainee submariners take part in an oral test where they are asked about submarine equipment and it's functionality. This test is to ensure that trainees are adept with the submarine machinery and their use before they actually enter the submarine. Harman Singha also appears for this test before he is allowed inside the submarine.

Quick Reaction Team (QRT) is a team of vigilant officers guarding the naval ports. Harman along with the rest of QRT team take part in the simulated training exercise of securing an area where terrorists are hiding.
