Adam Savage Tests Boston Dynamics' Spot Robot!

Adam welcomes a new member to the Tested family: Boston Dynamics' Spot robot! All throughout this year, Adam will be conducting builds and projects with Spot, integrating it into the workshop and taking it on adventures in the field. The first thing to do is test Spot's capabilities at an outdoor training course! Our Year with Spot commences!

Note: This is not a sponsored video. Boston Dynamics has leased Spot to Adam Savage as part of their early adopter program. While Tested is chronicling some of Adam's experience with the robot, there is no obligation for Tested (or Adam) to publish videos, photos or media of any kind.

Show and Tell: Robugtix T8X Robot Spider!

Remember Adam's creepy robot spider that he got a few years ago? The company that made that prototype has finally released the T8X, an updated version of the remote-controlled spider. Its movements are eerily lifelike, with an inverse kinematics algorithm coordinating all of its leg servos. In today's Show and Tell, Norm shows off what this spider can do!

Adam Savage Rancor Maquette Statue Reveal!

Adam unboxes and reviews the incredible replica Rancor maquette from the artists at Regal Robot--a near-perfect recreation of the original puppet designed by Phil Tippet for Return of the Jedi. Details like the construction of the eyes, the gnarly claws, and even the dripping drool of the fearsome creature are recreated here based on access to the original puppet and input from Phil himself. It's an incredible tribute to the creature design and practical puppetry showcased in the original Star Wars trilogy and Adam couldn't be more excited to meet it!

Inside Adam Savage's Cave: The Dodo Birds Project

Adam tells the story about how a craft day with his kids led to him building his interpretation of a life-sized Dodo skeleton from scratch. But that's just one of three Dodo birds Adam has plans for. Why would anyone need to make three Dodos? Knowing Adam, the answer is unsurprisingly awesome.

Inside Adam Savage's Cave: Space Glove Vacuum Chamber

For a friend's birthday present, Adam recently made this mock vacuum chamber and airtight space glove from scratch, and shows us how it works. The vacuum box is part prop and part puzzle--the user has to manipulate a set of nuts and bolts to complete a circuit to activate a sign. Best birthday present ever!

Adam Savage's Spot Robot Rickshaw Carriage!

Adam's first project with Boston Dynamics' Spot robot gives it a novel purpose: pulling a custom-built carriage with Adam as its passenger! Watch Adam give Spot some Victorian flair and the interesting problems that arise in marrying cutting-edge robot technology with vintage transport.

Adam Savage Tests Boston Dynamics Spot's New Robot Arm!

Spot has received a massive upgrade in the form of its new robot arm! Boston Dynamics upgrades our Spot with its new arm and Adam puts its gripper to the test to see how well it can grab objects littered around the Tested studio and even open doors! We show how manual operation of the arm works, the dexterity of its movement, and get a sense of its potential as a platform for developers to create dynamic and automated tasks.
