Have you ever noticed that warning about raw or undercooked seafood at the bottom of restaurant menus? Ever wondered why it’s there? Because fish carry a ton of parasites, and if they aren’t prepared correctly then those parasites can make it into your body. But it turns out, this fishy intersection with the wild world of parasites can teach us a lot about how these moochers help keep ecosystems healthy, and why we should protect them.

worms within me

please visit and join my mail list!

In this video you will see a medical provider pulling out worms (larvae) from a patient's skin.

This TRUE parasites burrow underneath the skin as tiny larvae and grow over weeks to months until they are ready to come out. They get there after falling off the belly of a mosquito and burrowing themselves under the skin.

First-ever deep-sea alligator food fall

Alligators were dropped to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico in February 2019 for the first-ever experiment on what eats reptiles in the world’s deep oceans. This research will help us learn more about:

1. deep-sea food webs
2. ancient food webs (because maybe some species eating the gators had ancestors that ate now-extinct reptiles like mosasaurs)
3. how materials created on land sustain and impact ocean food webs

This research is by #woodfall scientists Craig McClain, Clifton Nunnally, and River Dixon.

This Rare Cheese Is Infested With Live Maggots

“Casu marzu” literally means “rotten cheese,” but in Sardinia, it’s a glory to behold. What starts off as a regular wheel of pecorino is then visited by cheese flies that lay their eggs inside, giving the formaggio its signature zing. But, with a nickname like “the world’s most dangerous cheese,” you can be sure that along with the cheese comes some risky business. Still, a handful of artisans continue to produce the traditional cheese, cementing its status in Sardinian culture.

Extremely Graphic: LIVE BBQ EEL UNAGI

I re-uploaded this video and censored it because youtube age restricted the earlier version, I'm very sad that youtube thinks showing how to kill and filet a fish is something that needs to be hidden, killing and preparing fish to be edible is a life skill and not something that should be age restricted, IMHO.
