You’ll need to get tested from one of Hawaii’s “approved” partners. You can find the full list here:

The tests range from “free” to $250. Average prices are around $130. Typically more expensive depending upon how soon you want to get the results.

Currently the approved testing partners are located in the Mainland of the USA, Japan, and Hawaii for inter-island travel testing. Many airlines are also offering testing.

Hawaii Reopens to Travel in October: 10 Things to Know

Hawaii, the Aloha State, is reopening for travel on October 15. For the past 6 months, if you’ve wanted to travel to Hawaii, you had to quarantine for 14-days. The Governor of Hawaii, David Ige, just announced the long awaited “pre-travel COVID-19 testing program.” This program will allow for quarantine free traveling from the Mainland USA starting October 15 provided travelers test negative for COVID-19 72 hours before their arrival. EXPAND DESCRIPTION FOR TABLE OF CONTENTS.

00:00 - Hawaii is reopening!

00:56 - Where can you get tested?
You’ll need to get tested at a facility that is contracted with the state of Hawaii. Currently announced are CVS and Kaiser. Hawaii has stated more partners will be announced… and I’ll add them in the pinned comment as they’re announced.

01:26 - What kind of test is it?
The way things will work, is you’ll make an appointment via the testing providers website, and then you’ll go get a Nucelic Acid Amplifcation Test -- that’s the nasal swab. The promise is that you (and the state of Hawaii) will receive test results in time for you to cancel your trip if you are tested positive.

2:18 - Who pays for the test?
At CVS You do… Kaiser is “considering” offering them free for members

2:35 - What happens on arrival in Hawaii?
Hawaii lays out 3 potential travel cases:

The arrival temperature check threshold is 100.4F.

By the way.. That “declaration form” should be filled out 24 hours before your departure. Then you show the QR code when you arrive. This needs to be filled out by all adults. You’ll get the QR code via e-mail. You’ll also need a charged and working cell phone so they can call you.

4:30 - Who needs to get tested?
Everyone of all ages. Hawaii residents, and non residents.

5:03 - What happens if you’re quarantined?
If you are quarantined you basically can’t leave your lodging… hotel room, air bnb.. Etc. There is a discussion about Kauai implementing a quarantine “resort bubble” that you could enjoy the hotel amenities while you’re under quarantine as long as you wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. No resorts have announced participation in this program yet.

6:03 - What about testing on arrival?
No testing on arrival will be available on Oct 15. Hawaii is still ramping up their testing for the local population and didn’t want to take the capacity away. But they are considering adding testing on arrival in the future.

6:53 - What about international travelers?
This still doesn’t help international travelers from places that are currently banned.. Particularly China, EU, UK, Ireland, and Brazil. And the list of approved testing centers

7:51 - What’s going to be open when you get to Hawaii?
It depends on the current COVID situation at the time… The “stay at home” and closure orders are driven at lower levels of the government… applying to counties and cities. The state isn’t making any promises right now that anything will be open. Right now Oahu has the most COVID cases. Kauai has none.

9:09 - Stay tuned for more updates!
I’ll be putting out updates as this story develops… if you’re new here, make sure to subscribe to get notified of future updates. And if you’re planning a trip to Hawaii check out the rest of my Hawaii series.. I’ve got playlists on Oahu, Maui, and Kauai.

Coronavirus lockdown has gone too far, Hawaii protesters say

A caravan of about 50 vehicles Sunday traveled from the state Capitol to Costco in Kapolei to protest what participants consider governmental overreach in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Advertised as the 2020 Caravan to Restore Our Freedoms by organizers Emil Svrcina and Kai Lorinc, the mobile demonstration brought together an informal coalition of residents who disagree with state mandates relating to the cessation of nonessential business activity, social distancing and other COVID-19 containment measures.

The caravan came on the heels of President Donald Trump’s public comments about the need to “reopen” the country, organized efforts by certain conservative and political special-interest groups to incite anti- quarantine protest, and a subsequent wave of relatively small but high-profile demonstrations against state-mandated stay-at-home regulations.

Many of the vehicles at Sunday’s event bore messages espousing the primacy of individual liberties and personal freedom and denouncing government-mandated restrictions on business and personal activities. The riders themselves were a low-key and convivial bunch, content to occupy a faraway corner of the Costco parking lot to compare ideological notes and make connections. Several wore nonsurgical masks with the understanding that it was a matter of individual choice, not because of the emergency order requiring the use of masks at essential businesses.

Maui Coronavirus (COVID-19) Travel Update for May | Staying Healthy in Maui, Hawaii

Maui is eager to get back to work and regular life with COVID-19 but that isn't happening in May. Governor Ige has extended the stay-at-home order till May 31st and the visitor 14-day quarantine upon arrival continues.

Thanks to all those who have canceled their trips to Maui in April and May. Now, you have to settle for our family videos of living in Hawaii.

We appreciate you keeping us healthy during the pandemic. The shelter-in-place, social distancing, and visitor quarantine are helping to keep COVID-19 at bay for now on the island.

May 1st marks the beginning of Maui Mayor's phased approach to opening Maui back up during the pandemic. Some beaches are being opened to exercising only and people can once again walk the beaches. We see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Subscribe to our video to get monthly updates on living in Maui during the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic. We will share travel advice, life in Maui, and the latest orders from the government on traveling safely to Maui.

[Reuploaded] Here's how our family spent our first week quarantined at home in Hawaii. Since we moved back to Oahu during the Covid 19 Coronavirus pandemic, we are required to stay in our new apartment for our first 14 days. We wish we could get outside in the bright sunshine! Travelers arrive in Hawaii after COVID pre-testing

(16 Oct 2020) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 4293023

Thousands of travelers are arriving in Hawaii following the launch of pre-travel COVID-19 testing program that allows travelers to come to the islands without quarantining for two weeks if they could produce a negative coronavirus test.
The new testing program launched this week is an effort to stem the devastating downturn the pandemic has had on Hawaii's tourism-based economy. Officials had touted the mandatory quarantine rule as an integral part of Hawaii's early success in keeping the coronavirus at bay.
But gaps in the pre-travel testing program coupled with increasing cases of COVID-19 across the U.S. have raised questions about whether Hawaii is ready to safely welcome back vacationers.
And when local restrictions were eased before summertime holidays, community spread of the disease spiked to alarming levels, forcing a second round of stay-at-home orders for residents and closures for non-essential businesses.
Opponents of the testing program have said a single test 72 hours before arrival - especially when coupled with the option to fly without a test and still quarantine - is not enough to keep island residents safe.
Hawaii's economy is almost entirely built around tourism, and local families who rely on the sector to survive need to return to work.
More than 100 of Hawaii's approximately 4,000 restaurants, bakeries and caterers have closed permanently and more than 50% predict they will not survive the coming months, officials have said.
Hawaii, which has about 1.4 million residents, reported 10 additional coronavirus deaths and more than 100 newly confirmed cases on Wednesday. On Oahu, home to the famed Waikiki Beach and the state's most populated island, the positivity rate was nearly 4%.
County mayors have criticized the state's plan for a single test prior to flying and want a mandatory second test for all arriving passengers.
The governor said this week that mayors could implement certain secondary testing measures on their respective islands, but the cost and logistics of running such programs would be left to the counties.
Maui and Kauai counties decided on voluntary secondary testing for visitors. The Big Island will require secondary rapid screening upon arrival for visitors to avoid quarantine. Oahu officials have said they want to put in place another layer of screening but do not yet have the testing capacity.
The mixed bag of county and state rules could create chaos for vacationers who have not properly prepared for the various screening requirements, especially those traveling to the Big Island.
People who test positive in the state, whether on vacation or at home, are required to isolate and cannot fly until they no longer have the virus.
