22 Free Things You Can Take from a Hotel Room

Hey, it’s the source of those 18 tiny shampoo bottles and bars of soap in that bottom drawer of your bathroom cabinet! Yep, I’m talking about hotels and all the stuff we like to take from them, even if we don’t use it! But be careful there, sticky fingers – you’re technically only allowed to take certain things!

By the way, if you ever want to take something from a hotel room but doubt you can, simply ask if you can purchase the item or check if your hotel has an online shop where you can buy all those cute pillows and soft blankets. Because, yeah, you can’t take the bedding and towels!

SUMMARY:
- That bar of soap is there for you and only you to use. The next person who stays in your room will obviously get a new one.
- Feel free to take your Barbie-sized toothpaste and mouthwash to-go when you check out. Some hotels also provide travel-sized toothbrushes for guests.
- Hey, if the hotel so kindly left you some shaving stuff, kindly accept the gift, even if you packed your own!
- Shoeshine kits usually include black shoe polish, a shine cloth, and shoeshine brush.
- A hairbrush or comb is yours. But any other hair tools you find in a hotel room, like a hair-dryer or straightener, shouldn't be taken.
- While you’re stocking up on writing utensils, go ahead and throw the envelopes in your bag too. It’s one of those things you always forget to buy even though you need it more often than you realize.
- You can grab any reading materials the hotel has left for you to entertain yourself.
- If your hotel provides stuff to make warm beverages right in the room, then don't hesitate to take the tea bags, coffee pouches, and sugar packets if you want.
- If you're staying in a country where drinking tap water isn't okay, then most local hotels will stock your room with free bottled water.
- To avoid extra spending, you should assume that all food and drinks in your hotel room are not free.
- Some hotels put price tags on the bathrobe hanger to make sure guests are aware that it’s not a free item you can take home.
- Slippers are not reusable, so if you leave them in the room, they'll get thrown away. That's why it's no biggie if you get hold of one pair.
- Obviously, umbrellas are pretty expensive compared to slippers, but in most cases, you can keep one.

20 Easy Tricks to Protect Your House When You're Out

Cookies under the entrance mat, beads spread all over the floor, invisible paint smeared on door handles – sounds like a naughty dog has been in your house, or a starter pack for when you're home alone during the holidays! But these and other unusual tips can protect your house – or at least let you know it was visited while you were away!

And remember that most break-ins occur in the afternoon when people are at work or school. Burglars feel safe because their chances of getting caught or identified are low. Still, before getting inside, they watch houses for some time to figure out if they're empty. By the way, one of the things they pay attention to is cars parked in driveways. So if you have an old vehicle you haven't gotten rid of yet, make it useful!

#safety #protectyourhome #brigthside

SUMMARY:
- Stretch a thin unnoticeable thread across the bottom of the front door threshold. If someone opens the door and steps inside, the thread will be torn and left lying on the floor.
- Leave some crackers or thin cookies under the doormat inside your house before leaving.
- If you have suspicions that someone rummages through your things while you're away, take a photo of everything you have on your table or in your drawers before you leave.
- When leaving your home, carefully place a glass filled with beads next to the door before closing it. This way, if someone gets inside while you're away, they're bound to tip the glass over.
- Instead of pricey security cameras, why not use a video baby monitor?
- Leave the front door a bit ajar, clean the door handles, and spray them with invisible UV glowing paint.
- To scare burglars away, put alarm signs on all your windows and doors.
- If you have an old vehicle you haven't gotten rid of yet, make it useful! Park it in the driveway to fend off thieves.
- If you're short of money or don't want to deal with all the security camera technicalities, install fake ones!
- If you suspect that a burglar is casing your house, you can pretend someone's inside at all times.
- If you're out of town in the winter, ask your neighbors to leave some tire tracks in your driveway when it snows.
- If you have some electronics boxes and packaging left after buying expensive gadgets, never leave them on the curb or in your garbage can.
- A paper build-up in front of your door or a stuffed mailbox is an obvious sign that you ain’t home. You can also ask your neighbors to collect your mail for you. If you trust them.
- Burglars know that most cats sit by the window when they're bored with nothing else to do. It means you aren't home to play with them.
- Consider putting large, reflective numbers on your house and mailbox. It can help the police locate your place as fast as possible if your neighbors call them to report some disturbance in the area.
- Windows are some of the most common ways burglars get inside a house. Rid them of this opportunity: plant thorny bushes right under the outside panes.

#survivaltips #safety #brightside

SUMMARY:
- Never use bleach and cleaning products that contain ammonia at the same time and in the same room. Their vapors will mix in the air and create a toxic gas called chloramine.
- The smell of urine or fish at home means that the electrical wiring might be melting, which can lead to a fire or even an explosion!
- Try not to leave a pan or a deep-fryer unsupervised. But if you did, and your cooking oil caught fire, do NOT attempt to extinguish this fire with water – it’ll only make the flames shoot higher!
- A simple spare tire can save your life. While burning, it will produce thick black smoke visible from miles away, and chances are, somebody will notice your SOS signal.
- Three to four seconds before lightning strikes, you'll feel a metallic taste in your mouth, and your hair will stand on end. Immediately sit down, bring your heels together, and place your hands on your knees.
- If you suspect that some object might be electrified, but you have to check it, touch it with the back of your hand.
- Never touch the area around the wound; otherwise, the venom will spread way faster.
- If you're calling an emergency service, first of all, give them your address. Only after that should you explain the reason for your call.
- If you get disoriented after diving and can't figure out which way you should swim to get back to the surface, exhale.
- Any scratch or bite received from a wild animal can lead to rabies. Within 10-15 minutes after the accident, you should thoroughly wash the wound and rush to a hospital.
- If you're crossing the road and see a bright sun reflection on the windshield of the oncoming car, chances are the driver won't see you.
- Always plug your nose when you jump into a lake or a pond from high up, feet first. The water could be swarming with dangerous one-celled animals, and the most horrifying among them is something known as the brain-eating amoeba.
- If you find yourself face to face with a tornado, and it seems to be hovering over the same area, it's most likely moving toward you. Choose an upright standing object and focus on it.
- If your car skids, you can regain control of it by steering in the direction of the skid rather than against it.

11 Tips That'll Save Your Life In a Critical Situation

How to protect yourself in a critical situation? Knowing some useful pieces of advice for different life situations can be really helpful!
There is hardly anyone who’d want to find themselves in a dark alley with a strange person chasing them or get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. What would you do if the person chasing you grabbed you by force and took you to their car? What if you don’t have a spare tire and the “nearest” service station is actually many miles away?

TIMESTAMPS:
If somebody is trying to take you away by force 0:58
If you’re in an elevator with a criminal 1:34
How to understand when a storm is coming 2:06
If you get a flat tire 2:53
Stay focused during a plane’s takeoff and landing 3:24
Put out a fire with baking soda 3:53
How to quickly calm down when panicking 4:32
Use your phone as a reflector when you cross a road in the dark 5:29
Smell camphor to remove signs of tunnel vision 5:56
Start blowing or rubbing your nose to distract a predator 6:38
Make water safe after a natural disaster by adding drops of bleach 7:18

Music by Epidemic Sound

SUMMARY:
- If you are being pushed into a car, try to “accidentally” drop as many personal belongings as possible (but remember that it’s better to keep your cell phone with you). This could help the police find you faster.
- If you’re in an elevator with a criminal, press the buttons for every floor. This will give you a chance to run away or signal someone. It can also baffle the criminal — and make you look like a lunatic.
- Shake any drink, and pour it into a glass. If the bubbles spread to the sides, the weather will be good for the next 12 hours.
- If you suddenly get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, make small holes in the sides of the tire, and stuff it with grass or thatch.
- Stay attentive during the first 3 minutes of takeoff and the last 3 minutes of landing. Don’t get distracted! According to statistics, 61% of all accidents in the air occur in these time periods.
- If your kitchen stove or the oil in your frying pan catches fire, do not try to extinguish them with water. Why? Water repels grease and oil, and the fire can spread when you splatter it with water. Instead, pour a box of baking soda onto the burning area.
- Panic is one of the main factors that decrease your chances of survival in a dangerous situation. Therefore, it’s important to stay calm and follow simple actions that will help you stabilize yourself.
- You can use your cell phone or camera as a light reflector when crossing a poorly lit road in the dark. It will help drivers see you on the road and react in time.
- To remove eye tension, take a fabric pouch containing powdered camphor crystals or a bottle of camphor oil with you. When you feel tired, bring the pouch or bottle close to your nose, and take a deep breath.
- If you are being threatened, act like a hysterical victim: cry, sniff, blow, or wipe your nose (even on your sleeve).
- Water may be unsafe to use after a natural disaster like a hurricane, blizzard, or earthquake. Purify your tap water with bleach while you wait for the local authorities to announce that the water is safe to use.

Put a Glass on Your Door Handle, It Will Save Your Life!

How to stay safe while traveling? Now and then magazines, newspapers, and websites publish lists of the safest and the most dangerous travel destinations. But in fact, there’s always a chance of being robbed or attacked in any country in the world. When you’re unfamiliar with your surroundings, it can make you vulnerable to people looking to take advantage of you. Before going on a trip to another city or country, it’s better to consider your safety in advance. Luckily, there are some great hacks you can use to make your travels safe and worry-free, like putting a glass on the door handle of your hotel room!

TIMESTAMPS:
Put a glass on your doorknob 0:39
Download maps and translations to access them offline 1:22
Use a dummy wallet 2:02
Email yourself important documents as a backup 2:39
Stay in a hotel room on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floor 3:12
Hang the “Do Not Disturb Sign” even if you’re not there 3:58
Don’t say personal information out loud when checking in 4:37
Cover that peephole! 5:13
Don’t use the hotel safe 6:06
Avoid unsecure Internet connections 6:42
Use cabs cautiously 7:51

Music by Epidemic Sound

SUMMARY:
- Slip a drinking glass onto the door handle of your hotel room, on your side. That way, if someone turns the knob as you’re sleeping, the glass will fall and alert you that someone has opened the door.
- Before going on your trip, download translated phrases from language apps. That way, in case you can’t access the Internet, you’ll still know how to say things like, “Where’s the bathroom?”
- Use a second wallet in addition to your regular one as a “dummy wallet.” You can even fill it with fake cash or plastic cards so that it looks legit. If you get pickpocketed or, even worse, mugged in the street, the perp won’t make off with your real wallet.
- In the hustle and bustle of travel, it’s pretty easy to lose important documents like your license or passport, especially when you’re taking them in and out of your bag to show authorities. If you’re worried about losing these precious documents, scan them and email the copies to yourself.
- Choosing a room between the 2nd and 4th floors puts you at less risk of being robbed. That’s because thieves typically hit the first or ground floor since it’s easier to get away fast.
- Even if you’re not around, leaving the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door makes staff and potential thieves think that you’re in there. If you want to take things a step further, turn your TV on at a low volume and leave it on when you head out.
- There have actually been cases of people being spied on and even filmed through these peepholes! This is a total violation of privacy! So by taping some paper over the peephole of your hotel room door, you can really protect yourself.
- Hotel safes are a great way to keep your jewelry, money, and important documents secure, right? Believe it or not, they’re actually the first things thieves go for when robbing a room.
- When you’re traveling, you’ll stumble upon a number of cafes, bookshops, and restaurants with open Wi-Fi. While this is super convenient, it’s also super unsafe.
- When getting into a cab while traveling, don’t ever say that you’re a tourist. This immediately makes you a target! The driver may assume you don’t know anything about your surroundings and take advantage of you, like driving longer to hike up your fare.

10 Weird But Simple Habits To Live Longer

How to live a long life? We all wanna take care of our body so that it’ll serve us longer. But depriving yourself of life’s little pleasures (like a big greasy burger or a honey-glazed donut!) can often set you up for failure. The temptation is just too much! The good news is that you can take care of yourself without giving up the things you love. All you’ve gotta do to extend your life is change your daily habits.

Scientists from the Department of Psychology at Williams College in Massachusetts claim that ignoring what others think about you, whether in real life or online, can help you live longer. When we think about the reactions of the people around us, we’re more restrained or nervous and less like our true selves.

TIMESTAMPS:
Sleep between 10 P.M. and 6 A.M. 1:11
Ignore public opinion 2:14
Sunbathe 3:13
Brush your teeth less 4:25
Eat more tomatoes 5:35
Ditch the alarm clock 6:18
Eat bread crust 7:25
Don’t touch cigarettes 8:06
Dance! 8:55
Put on wet socks overnight 9:35
Bonus 10:36

#healthyhabit #howtolivelonger

Music by Epidemic Sound

SUMMARY:
- Chinese doctors have created a whole system that explains why sleeping from 10 P.M. to 6 A.M. is better if you wanna live longer. You see, each of our internal organs has a specific “schedule” of when it’s cleared or restored.
- When we think about the reactions of the people around us, we’re more restrained or nervous and less like our true selves. Putting on this show basically robs you of your happiness.
- Our body needs 600 IU (or 15 micrograms) of vitamin D daily, and sunlight is the best source of it. But do you get enough of the sunshine vitamin every day? If not, you might wanna get outside on a sunny day more often.
- Researchers recommend waiting at least 30 minutes to brush your teeth after a meal. Otherwise, you can do real damage to your teeth’s enamel surface.
- Including tomatoes in your diet can decrease your risk of developing cardiovascular disease by 26%.
- Such sharp noises really take a toll on your nervous system. So along with your annoying alarm clock, get rid of that whistling tea kettle, any sort of timers, alarms, and other noisemakers.
- Biochemists strongly recommend eating the bread’s crust. And that’s because it’s full of antioxidants that clean out your system and prevent the development of colon cancer.
- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, not only is it dangerous to inhale tobacco, whether you’re smoking it yourself or “secondhand,” touching it can be harmful as well.
- Looks like laughter isn’t the only best medicine! Scientists in France say that learning to dance is also an effective way to prolong your lifespan. They’ve found that the best dance to help you have a long life is salsa.
- Wet socks are a home remedy that helps fight fever, cough, constipation, fatigue, hangovers, digestive problems, and sleep issues.

15 Reasons Why You'll Always Be Poor

How to make more money? You work hard and never buy anything expensive, but you still have very little money. You keep running out of precious cash long before pay day and can’t save enough up to buy anything you really want. Newsflash, folks: that money curse is, in fact, your own habits preventing you from getting rich! Let’s see what you can do right away to change the situation for the better!

TIMESTAMPS:
You spend too much money on your phone 0:55
You use shopping as therapy 1:59
You treat your credit card as if it were your own money 3:36
You don’t plan your vacations in advance 4:12
You pay for subscriptions 4:55
You don’t buy in bulk 5:35
You don’t join loyalty programs 6:27
You don’t haggle 7:00
You never ask for advice 7:30
You leave the lights on 7:56
You spend money on bad habits 8:30
You drive to places you could walk to 9:06
You buy clothes that don’t match the rest of your wardrobe 9:35
You start your day with coffee-to-go 10:17
You never have any money left by the end of the month 10:44

Music:

SUMMARY:
- Mobile providers like to make long contracts with tons of small but important stipulations and limits that you might be completely unaware of. You could be using way too much data without even knowing it, and you’re likely paying a pretty penny for going beyond those limits.
- If you feel the unstoppable urge to shop when you’re stressed out or depressed, it’s time to stop and give it some thought.
- Credit cards are a great way to build up your credit, but it can be dangerously easy to use them irresponsibly. If you treat your credit card like a source of income, it might be high time to cut that thing into pieces!
- Paid subscriptions to music and movie sources can be pretty expensive. More often than not, users have no idea that they’re subscribed to a paid service since it happens automatically.
- There’s nothing wrong with buying a large number of goods at a discount, especially for non-perishables that can be stored for a long time.
- Plenty of companies offer discounts and bonuses to regular customers. So it’d be silly not to take advantage of loyalty programs!
- We all know that smoking, drinking, and fast food are bad for our health; no news here. But if you’re struggling to get by financially, then you just have to kick these bad habits!
- Be smart with your style and make up a wardrobe consisting of fewer pieces that can be combined into lots of different outfits. Don’t neglect websites with second-hand items either.
- A $5 latte on your way to work seems pretty harmless, right? Well, some simple math of multiplying 5 by 300 work days a year gives you $1,500 of hard-earned cash spent on your morning energizer.
- If you keep running out of money long before it’s time to flip the calendar, I’ve got some bad news for you, my friend. You’re doing something wrong when it comes to planning your budget.

The thing is that bees feed a whopping 90% of the world's population! But nowadays, these colorful insects are dying out at an alarming speed. Sir David Attenborough, a famous zoologist, is sure that if bees went extinct, people wouldn't survive longer than 4 years. Why are bees so important? 5:01
Several astounding bee facts 6:47

Music by Epidemic Sound

SUMMARY:
- In the US alone, the honey bee population has dropped by almost 25% since 1990. The most significant decrease happened in the last 5 years when the number of bees reduced by a third.
- Scientists have drawn a connection between the disappearance of honey bees and global warming. Due to this massive climate change, flowers start to bloom earlier. When bees wake up from hibernation, some flowers have already finished blooming.
- The reason for Colony Collapse Disorder could also lie in the loss of the honey bee habitat. People abandon farms, grow crops in a way that doesn't leave any space for wildlife, or plant flowers that are harmful to pollinators.
- However, a solution of water and sugar can help an exhausted bee to recover. To prepare this sweet drink, you'll need to mix one tbsp of water and 2 tbsp of granulated white sugar. Pour this concoction into several little plates or spoons, and leave them somewhere outside where bees will be able to reach the food.
- One-third of all the food on the planet depends on how well bees work. They pollinate more than 80% of flowering plants. In the US, these little critters pollinate up to 75% of vegetables, fruits, and nuts and more than 80% of all crops.
- Some products, such as almonds, can be pollinated exclusively by honey bees. The Californian almond industry needs about 1.4 million bee colonies every year.
- In its whole lifetime, the average honey bee will only make one-twelfth of a tsp of honey.
- Although a bee has a brain similar in size to a sesame seed, it can remember and learn a lot of new things. It regularly makes complex calculations on the efficiency of its foraging and the distance it's traveled
- When a honey bee locates a promising source of nectar, it returns to the hive. There, it dances in front of its mates. By doing this, the bee explains the exact position of the flower.

10 Morning Habits That Can Ruin Your Day

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Perhaps it’s because you’re guzzling down a bunch of coffee or jumping in a hot shower right after you wake up? Or maybe when you first open your eyes in the morning, you can’t fight the urge to see what’s new on social media? These may not be the best ways to start your morning.

Old habits die hard, that’s why we do some things without even thinking about how harmful they are — especially in the morning when we don’t have time to spare. So today, Bright Side wants to talk about ten things many of us do every morning that are actually harmful to us. You’ll learn how to make your morning and the day that follows better than they ever were before.

SUMMARY:
- Smashing that snooze button is a sure-fire way to start your day off all wrong. That’s because when you fall back asleep in between alarms, you enter into a new sleep cycle without completing it. This makes you feel even more groggy and disoriented than you did when you awoke to your first alarm.
- While this is a very common morning habit for most of us, looking at your phone right after you open your eyes can cause you to feel unnecessary stress and anxiety before you even get up to brush your teeth!
- While there isn’t anything wrong with enjoying a steaming cup o’ joe in the morning, this shouldn’t be the first thing you sip on after waking up.
- By making your bed every morning, you’re completing a healthy ritual that will carry on into your day. You’ll be more productive and motivated to tackle the day ahead!
- Opt for a protein-rich breakfast. This will keep you fuller for longer and, it’ll give you long-lasting energy to keep you productive and focused all day long!
- According to life coach Kirkland Shave, natural sunlight releases cortisol in the body, which helps you concentrate and make smart decisions throughout the day.
- Don’t do any strenuous exercising or stretching first thing in the morning, though. You can hurt yourself since your muscles and discs aren’t warmed up yet.
- Brushing your teeth after breakfast may do more harm than good. You see, if you’ve consumed something acidic like coffee or fruit, that acid thins the enamel of your teeth. So, brushing them right after can wear away that weakened enamel.
- People need time to wake up and get their bearings before they can think about important things to talk about on the phone. It’s best to wait until about 9:30am to start making phone calls.
- The cold makes your brain release feel-good endorphins and natural adrenaline. If you can’t stomach a cold shower, at least take a lukewarm one.

SUMMARY:
- To protect your keys from these “relay” attacks, use something metallic since metal blocks signals.
- The windshield, windows, and mirrors can be marked with a vehicle’s identification number (or VIN). This service doesn’t cost much, and it reduces the risk of theft significantly.
- When prospective criminals see your car is well cared for, they’ll assume you must have a good alarm system and ways to find your vehicle.
- A baby monitor makes a great anti-theft device because you’ll be able to hear everything that’s happening in your car.
- If you know you’ll have to leave your car in an unfamiliar place, hide an old switched-on phone or tablet in it. Just remember to synchronize it with your Google account in advance.
- A quick-release hub will let you take the steering wheel with you when you leave the vehicle, and thieves won’t be able to get far without it!
- If you don’t feel like spending a bunch of money on car security, try a quick tug on a spark plug. A car won’t start without a spark on the cylinder.
- If you bump into someone’s car or someone slightly bumps into yours, you should take the rights steps: roll up the windows, lock the doors, and call the police.
- Park in areas that are well-lit and preferably have security cameras, such as building entrances and parking lots.
- If you make use of an obvious anti-theft item, like a steering wheel lock, you should still install a GPS-tracker in an unusual place.
- According to crime statistics, cars are most often stolen from public parking lots, gas stations, or near ATMs.
- If you get a call from a company that has supposedly installed the alarm system, locks, or something else in your car, never answer the questions about safety.
- If you’re having trouble locking the car with the fob, there’s a chance that someone is trying to intercept the signal, especially if you’re in a public area.

If You Find a Cookie Under Your Doormat, Call the Police!

How to avoid becoming the victim of an offender? It takes an experienced burglar between 90 seconds and 12 minutes to take everything they need and leave a house. Often break-ins happen when at least one member of the family is at home. In this video, you'll learn what to do if you spot a cookie under your doormat, what white pebbles on your driveway mean and what measures you can take to defend your home.

Summary:
- One of the tricks thieves use to gather information about your routine is so simple that you may not even give it a second thought. But the next time you hear a quiet crackle under the sole of your shoe, stop and check what it was. The chances are high that you'll find yourself face to face with a crushed cookie.
- Pay attention to any flyers stuck in a bunch in your entrance door. There are 2 reasons why burglars may leave this stuff in your door: they mark your daily routine, and they also mark houses that are empty at the moment. One more thing that helps criminals check if a house or apartment is empty at that moment is something as innocuous as a simple match, a hair, or a piece of thread. Burglars fix these to the door in a way that makes it easy to determine if somebody has entered the house.
- Broadcasting your vacation plans may not be the wisest move. Be cautious of social media. You won't believe how many criminals today use it to gather information about their potential victims.
- Get to know your neighbors. If you create a community, it will be much harder for thieves to conduct their criminal activity.
- There are several things that can discourage burglars from breaking into your home. Use the TV and radio. Leave them on when you're going away. The sound of voices will most likely scare criminals away. Another thing that may help you is to keep some lights on in the house.
- One of the most obvious telltale signs that the owners of a house have gone away is a pile of newspapers and mail mounting up at the front door. Ask somebody to stop by regularly and pick up any accumulated correspondence. Before going away, hire somebody to mow your yard regularly and keep the lawn tidy.

12 Unexpected Etiquette Rules from Around the World

Do you know other countries’ food etiquette rules? ???? When you travel abroad and try the local cuisine, you might notice how a certain country’s table manners are very different from your own. Here are 12 quite unexpected food etiquette rules from across the globe! ????

TIMESTAMPS:
Don’t use forks in Thailand 1:10
Don’t “clean your plate” in China 1:55
Be ready to share a plate in Ethiopia 2:39
In Italy, you’ll insult the chef if you ask for extra cheese 3:22
Don’t ask for salt and pepper in Portugal 4:05
Be careful with chopsticks in Japan 4:45
Don’t touch food with your left hand in the Middle East 5:32
Don’t just sip on your wine in Georgia 6:18
Don’t fill your own glass in Japan 6:56
Only drink cappuccino before noon in Italy 7:32
Guests are welcomed with half a cup of tea in Kazakhstan 8:21
A clean teapot is a teapot without a soul in China 9:17

Music by Epidemic Sound

SUMMARY:
- In Thailand, picking food up with a fork is considered bad form. However, you are allowed to push food onto a spoon using a fork… that’s it!
- In China, however, it’s impolite to finish eating everything on your plate. Empty plates indicate that a host hasn’t served enough food and guests are still hungry.
- As you sit at the table in Ethiopia waiting for someone to give you a plate to eat from, you might miss the actual meal! Everyone else will just eat from one large serving plate in the middle of the table without using any cutlery.
- Although Italians do love this product, it’s considered rude to ask for extra cheese. It may insult the chef because they take it as you not liking the dish the way they’ve prepared it and wanting to change it.
- If you ask for salt or pepper in Portugal, you may hurt people’s feelings. It’s kinda like with Italy; the cook may feel insulted by the fact that you need to “spice up” the dish they’ve served you.
- According to tradition, people place chopsticks vertically during funerals. In a restaurant, doing this may insult the owner.
- In the Middle East, India, and some African countries, the left hand is used for…uh…cleaning yourself up after going to the bathroom.
- If you find yourself at a dinner party in Japan and wine is involved, never get a refill yourself. You’re supposed to fill the glass of the person sitting next to you at the table, and they’ll return the favor.
- Italians do drink cappuccinos, of course, but it’s mostly a breakfast drink or even a substitute for breakfast. But if you drink this milky foamy coffee later in the day, it can upset your stomach, at least according to the locals.
- When we think “tea ceremony,” we usually associate it with the UK and all their fancy tea-drinking etiquette. But it turns out there are plenty of tea fans in Kazakhstan, and they’ve got rules when it comes to drinking it as well.
- If you’ve been invited to a tea ceremony in China and offer your help with the dishes afterwards, don’t even think about washing that teapot! The Chinese don’t wash teapots, especially traditional clay ones, with dish liquid.

If You Have Popcorn Ceilings, It's Better to Change It

Take a look up at the ceiling. Does it look like a bunch of hard, cottage cheese staring back at you? Yep, looks like you’ve got popcorn ceilings. But it’s no joke! These ugly bumpies are actually really dangerous to your health! They contain a toxic substance called asbestos. So what should you do if you’re living with popcorn ceilings today?

Other potentially dangerous materials in your home:

- Carbon monoxide (over 400 people die every year from it!) 5:42

- Mold 6:40

- Pesticides 8:10

Music by Epidemic Sound

SUMMARY:
- Popcorn ceilings reached their height of popularity in the 1930s and managed to stick around all the way through the 1990s, which is why a lot of homes built during this time frame still have them today.
- This thick, bumpy spray treatment was a cheap and time-efficient way to finish ceilings without having to smooth them out.
- Asbestos can wreak the most havoc on your body when you breathe it in. So if you or a professional attempt to remove a popcorn ceiling, for example, you absolutely have to wear protective gear to cover your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- When a person breathes in these particles, they have a hard time breaking down and the body can’t dispose of them easily. They can damage lung tissue, cause scarring, and even mess with your cells!
- Asbestos can be present in different materials as long as it doesn’t make up more than 1% of it. And spray-applied asbestos, along with a handful of other building products, are currently banned from the US.
- If you breathe in the gas for too long, you’ll start to feel symptoms like dizziness and nausea, kinda like when you’re coming down with the flu.
- Mold spores can grow as a result of this moist patch and can cause serious health issues. And if you’re allergic to mold, get ready for all kinds of symptoms like sinus congestions, chronic cough, and eye irritation.
- Always clean up any bug spray you use in your home after it’s served its purpose.

SUMMARY:
- While peepholes are great because they let you see who’s outside your front door, it also works the other way around. That is, potential intruders can also find ways to look in.
- A mailbox that’s flooded with letters and a pile of packages on the front step are clear signs for burglars that there’s no one home to pick them up.
- An unkempt yard or a dirty pool can also make your home an obvious target for thieves in your area.
- Posting pictures online from the places you’re visiting is just letting everybody know that your house is empty.
- It doesn’t matter if you’ve figured out the most discreet place to hide your key, trust me, burglars know all the spots.
- You can either leave all your precious stuff with a friend or consider renting a safety deposit box at the bank. This will ensure your valuables remain safe even if your home is broken into.
- People usually use these timers for lamps, but TVs or radios can also be plugged into them, which really helps create the illusion that someone’s home.
- If you’re on good terms with your neighbors, ask one of them to park their car in your driveway while you’re gone.
- You’d think burglars wouldn’t be interested in a bunch of dusty tools and bikes, but you’d be surprised how much they can sell that lawn mower for!
- If you don’t want to invest in the real deal, you can fool potential burglars by placing security company signs in your yard and setting up dummy cameras near the front and back door.
- If you have a portable GPS system, just don’t leave it in the car.

SUMMARY:
- Nowadays, soldiers use duct tape to prevent blisters and calluses caused by those notoriously uncomfortable military boots.
- If you still have a lot of lace left (although you shouldn’t with this laddering technique), just wrap it around your ankle and then tie it. Tuck the remaining laces inside your shoe.
- In case of an emergency, you can use sanitary pads to prevent a wound from bleeding out.
- Speaking of first-aid in a pinch, you can put sugar on a wound to prevent bacterial infection. Don’t worry because this unconventional medical treatment has scientific backing based on a study by the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine.
- Running or compression tights aren’t just for jogging or making a fashion statement. You can wear them under almost any pants without them being noticeable.
- Covering cotton balls in petroleum jelly and lighting them on fire, you get a strong but steady flame that keeps on burning. A great hack next time you go camping!
- If you ever feel like the driver in your rearview mirror is following you, all you gotta do is make 4 consecutive turns in a row. This is usually the best way to lose a tail!
- According to the medical community, it actually prevents and cures athlete’s foot! Urine has natural properties like uric acid and ammonia that help fight fungal infections.

If You See a Coin In Your Car Door Handle, Run And Call the Police!

We often talk about the dangers brought to us by animals and even plants. But unfortunately, sometimes the most dangerous threats come from other human beings - like burglars, who seek to benefit from your goods and take them from you in the blink of an eye. I must admit, they are quite smart and street-savvy, and they have learned the best ways to steal our cars, your money and even the most valued possessions you keep inside your house. But, don’t worry about it too much! Today we’ll be looking at “Things that People want to Steal from You, and how to stop them!’ You’ll learn a bit about their tactics, but you will also learn some tricks that can help you prevent your stuff from getting stolen. You’ll be surprised to see how they can steal your car in the blink of an eye. But you will also be relieved to know that you can stop them with simple actions that don’t even put your life in danger. Let’s check these things out!

Cash at Home

Banks are usually the best place to keep our money safe. But I get it, different people have different reasons to keep their cash at home and honestly, it’s always good to have some cash with us...I mean, we can’t fully depend on credit cards! Now, the thing is, large amounts of cash can be easily taken from you. Especially if someone were to break into your home. If you keep your cash at home, I’m gonna take a guess and say that your money is in some sort of safe space inside your bedroom. That’s safe, but the fact that I can figure that out is an indicator that most people know about these hideouts, so probably, no spot in your home is as safe as you think. For that reason, if you need to store large amounts of cash in your home, it is recommended that you put it in different parts of the house. Put some in an obvious spot so burglars can take it if they break into your home, but save the rest in other corners where they’re less likely to search. Also...get yourself a safe box! These things are heavy and it would require more time and skill for them to actually take your money from there.

Jewelry

When you work hard and you make some extra cash, you are probably going to treat yourself to nice pieces of jewelry. Bracelets, earrings, rings, expensive watches...you name them, you will probably want to have them all. So, if you do have them, it’s probably not the best idea to have them on full display in your master bedroom. I know it’s so easy to lay these things on top of a table, in front of your mirror, but they’d be safer, again...inside a safe! And it’d be better if that safe box is in a different room. And I know you’re probably thinking it would be nice to have these inside your room, since it would make it easier for you to reach for them whenever you want to wear them. Unfortunately, drawers and furniture inside your room are probably the first place where burglars are going to search. So, if you invest in some jewelry, make sure you also invest in tools that will help you keep it safe.

The TV

When it comes to the TV, there’s not much you can do to keep it safe. I mean, it would be quite uncomfortable to put it inside a box and take it to a safe space every night before you go to bed. That would be a bit paranoid and over the top. However, if it’s possible, you could mount it to your wall and the same applies to other big electronics. If you attach them to furniture or other parts of your house, it is less likely that burglars will want to go through the hassle of removing them and taking them along on their way out. These criminals surely want valuable stuff, but they want it easy and fast - so just make sure your electronics are not too easy to grab away.

Video Games

Speaking of electronics, video game consoles are also easy to grab. After your bedroom, the living room is the other jackpot for burglars, so you want to make sure things are quite safe and not just laying around. But again, you don’t want to pack your video game consoles and all your games at the end of the day. What you can do is to get a drawer or a tv table where you can lock your games every day after you’re done using them. Video games are very expensive, and if burglars were to see them just laying all over your living room, they would probably take them! So, make sure things inside your house are neat, organized and secure!

Laptops

When it comes to laptops, I don’t think there’s a specific place for them. I mean, sure, you probably have a desktop or a backpack where you usually keep them.

If You Ever See This Tree, Run Fast And Yell For Help!

Which trees are dangerous to humans? There are over 3 trillion trees on our planet that clean our air, help prevent water pollution and soil erosion, and provide us with oxygen and shade on a hot day.
Some plants and trees, however, aren’t exactly that good since they’re super dangerous and can seriously hurt you or even kill. If you ever see any of them, don’t touch them and ask for help to remove them.

When the fruit of the sandbox tree matures, it becomes dark brown and explodes, shooting seeds a whopping 150 miles per hour in all directions. You can imagine what a serious injury that could cause if you get in the way of these organic bullets.
If a child or dog eats just one or two of cherry trees’ leaves, they’ll suffer from a horrible stomachache. And if they eat more than that, they’ll most likely end up with cyanide poisoning.
If children or dogs eat or chew on Buckeyes, they’ll most likely suffer from vomiting and diarrhea. Pets may have troubles breathing or start to stagger and shake. If you have an Ohio buckeye tree near your house, your best and safest bet is to pick up all the nuts and twigs and keep them out of your kids' and pets' reach.
You’re unlikely to swallow two hundred seeds or munch on twenty apple cores, which is the fatal dosage for people. But if pets and other animals eat too many apples, it can easily kill them.
Some of the cerbera odollam’s components are used to make deodorants and pesticides, but in its pure form, the cerbera odollam can be deadly.
Manchineel tree is covered in poisonous sap, and if it comes in contact with your skin, it can cause blindness. Do not burn manchineel wood even if you have nothing else at hand to start a fire. The smoke from this fire will definitely lead to eye inflammation and even temporary blindness.

The cherry tree and its relatives 2:07
The Ohio buckeye 3:16
The apple and crabapple tree 4:15
The cerbera odollam 5:12
The manchineel tree 5:57

SUMMARY
-If you get the sap of sandbox tree in your eyes, blindness can become a frighteningly real possibility. If you accidentally eat the fruit, your body will have an almost instant reaction with cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea.
-The cherry and its relatives release particular chemicals that later metabolize into cyanide, poisoning with which can easily and quickly become fatal.
-All parts of the Ohio buckeye tree contain saponins, which are chemicals that depress the central nervous system.
-The leaves, stems, and seeds of apple trees contain that very same chemical as in cherry trees that’s metabolized into cyanide during digestion.
-The cerbera odollam grows in South Asia and India, where some desperate people are willing to end their lives just by eating the extremely toxic fruit of this tree.
-Highly toxic milky sap oozes out of the tree’s leaves, bark, and fruit. It contains all kinds of toxins, but the most lethal is phorbol. Even if you haven't swallowed the fruit but just bitten into it, its juice will lead to painful boils that will cover your throat and the insides of your mouth.

SUMMARY
- Here is the trick: try to cut a shape which resembles a “Christmas tree” on the match. When you light its head, the chips you got will go on fire.
- All it takes is 1 pound of salt and 0.5 pounds of ammonia. Mix them with two liters of water. Throw this mixture into the fire. There you go!
- Make two identical wedges on both sides of the tree. Pull the tree with a rope in the direction where you want it to fall.
- Put some potassium on the tip of the cigarette and touch it with a piece of ice.
- You don’t need a fridge or a special container for this according to the cards. To keep the eggs fresh for a long time, dip them in salt and put them in a dry place.
- Fill a large container with water and put it somewhere above the plants. Take a woolen rope and put one end into the container, and the second one into the pot.
- You can get the purest water from a zinc bucket with a hole at the bottom for draining. Put fine sand, coarse sand, clean and spent gravel and stones in layers on the bottom.
- Cut a snowflake shape in a square sheet of paper. Bend off the petals you get, and place the container in there.
- Put on dry gloves or take any insulated object (a piece of cloth, clothing, etc.) and pull the poor victim by his or her clothes.
- Tie one end of a solid rope to a tree. Make one scout swim across the river and attach the other end to the tree on the opposite side. Make a seat or something like that, attach it to a loop that can move freely along the rope. Using light cable scouts will safely take everyone who can’t swim to the other side of the river.
- Take a usual medium-sized plastic bag, put it on the table and put a brick on it. Place the open end of the bag in your mouth and start blowing into it.
- Take a piece of wire and twist it around a pencil on one end. Sharpen the other end of the wire to use it as the point leg of a pair of compasses. You can bend the wire and adjust the pencil to get any circle size you want.
- Take a piece of paper and a pencil and never take the pencil off that piece of paper. Keep drawing the infinity symbols as you see in the card.
- In case you were unlucky and did run into that monster, you can use a scout's staff, a walking-stick, or even a handkerchief or hat” to protect yourself, as the card suggests. Put the selected item on one end of the stick, hold it between you and the dog.
- To cook potatoes like a chef, add a pinch of sugar, not only salt when boiling. Once they are boiled, pour the water away and put the saucepan back on the stove for a short time. Shake the potatoes to make them equally dry.
- Hold the jug straight and keep your thumb inside when carrying it. This will prevent the weight from pulling the jug down, the card said.
- Put the knife in boiling water for 10-15 seconds, then take out and slowly slice the bread.
- Say goodbye to annoying splinters. Fill a small bottle with hot water almost to the brim and press it firmly against the arm. The water will slowly cool down and suck up your skin. After a while, you will be able to remove the splinter easily.
