TIMESTAMPS
- Men and women get dressed in a different sequence 0:35
- Women are less inclined to take risks 0:57
- Men have a better sense of direction 1:38
- Women are better at multitasking 2:25
- Women see a wider range of colors than men 3:24
- Women have a better sense of smell 4:37

- Alcohol and women are a heck of a mixture 5:44
- Some women have to put a lot of effort into going down the stairs 6:22
- Men and women shake hands differently 7:01
- Men and women look in the mirror for different reasons 7:27
- The female body changes more often 8:10

Summary:
-Most women get dressed from top to bottom, while men usually go the other way.
-Women have a tendency to be more worried about others, men are more willing to throw caution to the wind.
-Males do better at tasks requiring spatial awareness, like finding the way.
-Women are better at multitasking than men, especially in stressful situations.
-Women can differentiate more colors on the spectrum than their male counterparts due to their genes.
-Female genes also make women more sensitive to smells.

-The female body doesn’t cope with alcohol as well as the male body does.
-It’s hard enough walking in high heels, let alone going down some stairs in them.
-When some women shake hands, they just offer their hand but don’t move it. Men do it firmly and actually shake their hands.

25 Traditions That Are Totally Normal in Other Countries

“So many countries, so many customs.” Any jet-setter will agree this good old proverb is true. In the age of globalization, going places has become an essential part of our life. We’re all well aware of the fact that while visiting a foreign country, we must obey certain local traditions and common rules.

What would you do if you walked into a bathroom and instead of toilet paper, you found a bowl of water? And no instructions either! Or, what if warding off bad luck meant talking to birds at the park? Sure, these things may seem wacky to you, but they’re pretty normal customs in other countries. And some actually sound pretty fun!

SUMMARY:
- In Germany, if you’re 25 and single, your friends will often lead you to your birthday party with a string of old socks as you celebrate with drinks.
- In the States, “pull my finger” is a risky - smelly - game. But in Scandinavia Austria, and Bavaria, Germany, finger pulling (or Fingerhakeln) is a competitive sport!
- If you’re going on vacation and want to leave with as many good vibes as possible, sit down with your household first before you head out the door. In Russia, they believe that doing this ensures you have a good trip and wards off bad luck.
- In Denmark, if it’s your 25th birthday or higher and you’re still single, your friends and family throw handfuls of cinnamon at you.
- If you were to spit at your boss or a family member when you greeted them, it’d be considered pretty darn rude. But in the Maasai tribe in Kenya and northern Tanzania, spitting into their hands before a handshake is considered appropriate and respectful.
- You might gift newlyweds with some sparkling new china, but in Germany, family and friends actually break dishes the night before a wedding!
- In Venezuela, the early bird doesn’t necessarily get the worm. There, running late isn’t a problem the way it is in the US and other countries. When it comes to parties or even work meetings, arriving a few minutes late isn’t considered rude.
- In South Africa, the tradition of chucking chairs, tables, and whatever furniture out the window onto the street for the New Year has been going strong since the end of apartheid.
- Even if you’re naturally a leftie, using this hand is considered pretty rude in a lot of Middle Eastern countries. This is because the left hand is the designated “cleaning hand” in the bathroom and, therefore, it’s the dirty one.
- f your biggest fear is doing your business in a restroom that’s run out of toilet paper, well…you might have some problems when visiting India. That’s because in most parts of this country, instead of toilet paper, people use water to cleanse their, uh, private areas.
- In Thailand, there are tons of stray monkeys hanging around. And once a year in Lopburi, Bangkok, people dump over 6,600 pounds (3,000 kg) of fruits and veggies out for the little guys to munch on in what’s referred to as the Monkey Buffet Festival.
- While we consider it bad luck to see the bride before the big day, people in Tidong, Indonesia believe using the toilet 3 days after the wedding is bad luck.
- Americans are used to having copious amounts of ice in their drinks. But in many places in Europe, having little or no ice at all is the norm.
- If you ever visit Fiji, you’ll likely be greeted by a cocktail containing juice from squeezed roots served in a wooden bowl known as Kava. And apparently, it has, shall we say “psychoactive effects.”

A Legendary Man Survived in a Whale's Stomach

Picture this: You’re an apprentice seaman on a whaler, and you’re taking your first ever voyage. Just as you’re sailing deeper into the ocean, your ship is attacked by a sperm whale, and it swallows you whole. Yikes! But after two days in its belly, you’re finally rescued, and found alive!

So, it was the middle of February in 1891; James Bartley was just 21 years old and was ready to start his training as a seaman on a whaler. While onboard his first whaling ship in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, they spotted a huge Sperm whale. It was about 0.5 a mile away from the ship, and they were getting closer. The closer they got to the beast, the larger it became...

SUMMARY:
- The whale started to sense the danger approaching. An unpredictable race started between the immersed sperm whale and “The star of the East”.
- The whale started thrashing its giant tail on the water, causing massive waves that crashed around the boats.
- Bartley and his team realized that they were in dangerous waters and had to get out of there.
- Suddenly, they felt a splintering crash underneath the hull, which sent their boat spinning into the air. The whale broke the wooden longboat into a million pieces, and the five men landed in the water.
- Another longboat rushed to their rescue and picked up all the men in the water. Except for one apprentice – James Bartley.
- Many hours had passed since that incident in the morning. And, right before sunset, the whale was still floating on the surface of the water. It was clear now that it was no longer alive.
- That afternoon, as someone was investigating the bloated whale they captured the night before, he noticed something moving in its stomach.
- Everyone thought that a huge fish was inside, and the doctor decided to perform an incision.
- Right then and there, to everyone’s surprise, the missing sailor - James Bartley, slid out. Everyone cheered. He was alive.
- He couldn’t speak, and he was taken into a confined cabin onboard the ship. He wasn’t allowed to leave the room.
- He recalled how he was able to breathe, but after some time he blacked out. The young sailor couldn’t remember anything after that.
- The crew members of the ship started sharing his story by word of mouth, and it began gaining momentum.
- In 1896, the first article was published in the New York World, telling a small portion of the story.
- Years later, a historian picked up the story and began an investigation. His name was Edward Davis. He read the stories that were published and noticed a lot of factual inconsistencies.
- He found that James Bartley’s name wasn’t even on the crew member list.
- And there was another flaw in the story: It would be scientifically impossible for a human being to survive inside a whale’s stomach, even if they’re swallowed whole.

They Found a Man at Sea But How He Survived Is Shocking

Stories about world records are often stories about fierce competition and glory. But the holder of this stunning record once famously said that he really hopes no one will ever have to beat it. And it’s not because he wants it only for himself, but because we’re talking about Poon Lim, the man that survived over 4 months on a raft, stranded in the ocean.

To be exact, he’d been there for 133 hard days straight. He survived everything a shipwreck survivor might have the misfortune of going through! Thirst, starvation, raging storms, desperation and the ever-menacing presence of bloodthirsty sea predators – you name it, Poon Lim had to deal with it! But how could all this happen to him?

SUMMARY:
- The year was 1942. A lot of young Chinese people went to become sailors on board UK ships and Poon Lim was one of them. He was assigned to the merchant ship called SS Ben Lomond as a steward.
- The ship sank so fast, that she sucked down water around her. All 55 members of the crew were dragged into the depth.
- Poon Lim was one of 11 lucky survivors, though he wasn’t lucky enough. The 10 others were soon saved by passing ships. Lim’s only hope was the life raft from SS Ben Lomond.
- It was 8 by 8 ft (2.5 m), had some sort of tent to provide shade and cover from the rain, tin cans of dry biscuits, 40 liters of water, and signal flares.
- He saw passing ships many times, but they didn’t notice him. Once, he even saw a German U-boat like the one that began this nightmare.
- Storms became a problem, not only for the flimsy raft itself, but most importantly for the supplies. In a single stormy night, they were all gone! All the jars with fresh water, all the dried fish – everything!
- The remains of the birds lured sharks to Poon Lim’s raft and fish decided to swim for their lives as fast as they could.
- One day, Poon Lim noticed that the water around him changed color and he rejoiced, because that could only mean one thing – he was near land. It was Brazil, in fact.
- After two weeks in the hospital, he was ready to go back to Britain, where he was rewarded with a British Empire Medal and a golden watch from his employers as a symbolic compensation.

A Man Who Crossed the Atlantic Ocean Without Food and Water

Imagine this: you’ve decided to set sail across the Atlantic Ocean. Only, you’ll be taking a flimsy little inflatable boat and no water or food supplies. It’s hard to visualize because who in their right mind would do such a thing? Well, one guy did it way back in the ‘50s, and he did it for a very good reason!

Alain Bombard was a French doctor with a huge interest in survival techniques. In his medical experience, he saw plenty of cases of how tragic outcomes of shipwrecks can be. One thing bothered him most of all: at that time, lifeboats didn’t have any fishing equipment. Plus, it was believed that people can’t survive stranded in the ocean for more than a few days...

SUMMARY:
- Alain Bombard developed a theory that it’s possible to survive for much longer only by consuming raw fish, plankton for vitamin C, and salty seawater if it were handled properly and at a bare minimum.
- In 1952, the 28-year-old decided to cross the Atlantic Ocean without any food or water supplies in a 15x6-foot (~5x2 m) inflatable boat. He dubbed the vessel: the Heretic. The Heretic was supposed to carry two people – Alain and his friend and navigator Jack Palmer – across the ocean with basic fishing equipment, a compass, and a sail.
- Their journey started on May 25, 1952. Bombard and Palmer set off from Monaco and headed west toward the Americas. It didn’t take them long to realize how challenging their goal was.
- One day, Alain and Jack clearly heard a ship coming closer to them, and they even saw lights! But suddenly, the wind blew the fog away, and Alain and Jack were shocked by what they saw: there were no vessels around them at all. The ship had vanished in thin air!
- A few days later, they landed in Tangier, Morocco, where Palmer decided to tap out of the whole experiment. For him, this trip was just too much, but for Alain, the experience was only proving that his theory was true, and he can reach his goal!
- The Atlantic wasn’t very fond of his decision, though. A storm began almost immediately. That’s when Alain realized that he wasn’t even close to being prepared for it.
- As if Alain Bombard had somehow passed a cruel examination by the Atlantic, the waters around him went calm, and fish started showing up in swarms. From there on, he always had enough opportunities to get food and water.
- The main goal of his dangerous trip was to prove that people stranded at sea after shipwreck could survive, but he didn’t stop himself from trying to attract the attention of nearby ships.
- Even as the sun scorched his skin, he lost 52 pounds (24 kg), and weathered a typhoon, none of that could compare to the starvation and storms he’d already gone through. On December 23, 1952, he arrived in Barbados, West Indies, and his emergency food supplies were still sealed.

Titanic Survivor Claims an Iceberg Didn't Destroy the Ship

Have you ever met a person who hasn’t ever heard the story of Titanic? Unlikely. Even if you ask a 10-year-old, they’ll tell you exactly what took down the gigantic ship. However, some survivors of the sinking legend would beg to differ. Here’s one of their stories, and it has nothing to do with an iceberg.

Armenian publicist Vaghinak Byurat was 25 years old in the spring of 1912. He described what happened on his journey to America on the most famous ship in the world in his memoirs. He’s never mentioned an iceberg hitting the Titanic, and always spoke about an explosion. And if what he said was true, something must have caused that huge explosion...

SUMMARY:
- Armenian publicist Vaghinak Byurat was 25 years old in the spring of 1912. He described what happened on his journey to America on the most famous ship in the world in his memoirs.
- In 1912, Vaghinak published some books together with his father, a famous Armenian writer. His task was to take the books to America.
- They went to bed rather late on April 14, just like on the other nights. Shortly after midnight, something that sounded like a big explosion woke everyone up.
- None of the crew members wanted to say anything, but a few minutes later it was impossible to deny that the Titanic was going underwater.
- Vaghinak put his passport and money in a little bag and tied it around his neck. The Titanic’s bow was already underwater by that time. A lot of people in this situation wouldn’t have dared to take it to the open water.
- The water in the North Atlantic that night was just below freezing, at a scary 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-2 C). The young writer felt his arms and legs go numb, and he was understandably getting weaker and weaker every second.
- Then, he bumped into something. It was a lifeboat! But it was so overcrowded they pushed the young man with a paddle when he tried to stick to the boat.
- Vaghinak woke up alive on board another ship. That ship was the Carpathia, and it was en route to New York with lucky survivors on board.
- 12 days later, a woman came into the room. She turned out to be the person who saved Vaghinak. Missis Astor told the sailors that the young man was her son, and she wouldn’t let them go without him since she’d already lost her husband on the Titanic.
- Vaghinak lived a long and happy life and, as a great storyteller, he shared what happened to him many times. Interestingly, he’s never mentioned an iceberg hitting the Titanic, and always spoke about an explosion.
- It could have been a fire, and quite a lot of people actually believe that theory, saying that coal was burning in the ship’s hull.
- Another theory that explained the explosion claimed that there was a German U-boat involved in the sinking of Titanic.
