Unboxing the new Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD

The Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD sports an all-new look. It is an insanely fast and small portable SSD. It weighs in at just 44-grams and packs in 1TB of storage space. It also accompanies some degree of water resistance.

Inside the box, the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD accompanies a manual and warranty info. You also get a USB Type C to USB Type C cable, along with a USB Type A adapter. The SSD has been designed for both Mac and PC and comes in storage capacities ranging between 250GB to 2TB.

The advertised read speed of the device is up to 550 MB/s. However, we will reserve our comments until we test it out. Overall, it has a nice non-slip and grippy surface texture and comes with an IP55 rating. Setting up the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD is a walk in the park. It is a simple plug-and-play situation.

It comes with a 3-year warranty and it can withstand a fall on concrete from 6.5 feet, though we suggest you don't attempt that. Once you plugin the device into the USB port, the Mac or PC will recognise it instantly.

Sandisk also ships the Sandisk Secure Access app for Windows into the SSD. But, if you are using a Mac, you will need to navigate to the Support section on the Sandisk website and download it manually. Once the installation file is downloaded, proceed to install it. The entire procedure hardly takes some minutes.

The Sandisk Secure Access vault is a password protected and encrypted area on the SSD that can be used to store personal files.
However, be aware that if you lose the password, there is no way to access the encrypted data. We will be putting the device through a series of tests and benchmarks.

So, stay tuned for the full review. If you liked the video, please like, share and comment below. Subscribe to our channel for more videos!

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD | Unboxing & Test

USB-C is the future and SanDisk's new portable SSD delivers great performance and a good price. Let's check it out.

I picked this up at the same time as I got my new MacBook Pro. Thinking that I rather pay $125 for an extra 500GB of storage than pay 200 to upgrade from 256GB internal to 512GB. I can say I personally made the right choice. Maybe not for everyone but watch the video and the tests I did, see if you agree.

I ended up getting the base model MacBook Pro with touch bar. The new Quad-Core i5 with 8 threads which is enough to edit in 4K. Such a big step up from last years dual core. Here is my Unboxing:

The SanDisk 500GB SSD is available from Amazon:

The MacBook Pro 13 2018 is available at Best Buy right now. I got mine for about $250 off including the student discount. Check it here:

It comes in various capacities including 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. Also of note, the 250GB and 500GB drives come in the bright bluish tone shown in this video. The larger 1TB and 2TB version of the drive are black.

The full review on

From the full review on
Last year we received a number of portable storage solutions for review which we will be testing in a row in the next few weeks. The first will be the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD.

This tiny unit, weighing 40g or 1.4 oz and measuring 9cm or 3.5 inches long over 4.5cm or under 2 wide,  is made of semi-porous rubberized material and is quite nice to the touch (although it does tend to attract some dust over time into those tiny holes).

The drive has no buttons or switches of any sort and the only connector is a single USB-C on the top side. It also has a red square at the top for connecting a carabineer for example. It comes with a single short USB-C to USB-C cable plus a USB-C to USB-A adaptor (make sure you use this or a similar fast data transfer cable - we used a longer USB-C to USB-C cable and got really dreadful transfer speeds - using such a short cable on a desktop is a bummer though).

➱ My SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD REVIEW ✈ ✈

SanDisk sent me their SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 2TB drive to use in the field. They asked if I’d share a bit of my behind the scenes solo filming process with you. Because as a solo female travel content creator or solo travel YouTuber, a lot of my documenting each day’s adventure relies upon the gear I use, it’s ease, weight, durability and performance reliability. From Nepal to Tokyo, I’ve been putting it through the test and I can honestly say it’s been a game changer for my work process.

Disclosure: Although this is sponsored, all opinions are my own. I've tested this over the span of 3 months for memory storage in rugged environments and as a portable SSD for video editing. This is an SSD (solid state drive technology) vs a standard HDD. Read my review for more.
