In this video we are showcasing something a little out of the ordinary for us, a .45 Caliber Air Rifle. Yes, an Air Rifle. Now this is not your Daisy or Red Rider however, this is an air rifle that can take down medium sized game such a whitetail deer or hogs and also be used in urban type environments where discharging firearms as disallowed.

We talked the guys at AirForce Airguns who manufacture the Texan at Shot Show this year and just had to get one in to do some testing and evaluation on and see what it was all about. The results are very surprising, and impressive to say the least. In this video we give chronograph data on many of the projectiles available for this platform as well as accuracy and ballistics test results. We also have some fun seeing what we can destroy with this rifle.

Air Rifles/Pistols are not considered firearms by definition and do not fall under the same laws and regulations as actual firearms.

Stay tuned, much more on the way.

Another HOLE-IN-ONE BABY! .357 Big Bore AirForce Texan with 128 Gr. Aeromagnum rounds. Out of the box, the .357 Texan really isn't all that accurate. I have been tinkering with different pellet weights and shapes. It really likes Neilson Specialty .357 Ammo 180 gr. cast bullets at 50 yards and will be my hunting round for this year's deer season (.35 cal air rifle and up is now legal in Michigan - woohoo!). What helped the most to tighten up groups was this x-ring barrel harmomic tuner to replace the factory end cap and then I have a 1.5 inch plastic ABS homemade shroud with a rubber plug to also dampen the harmonics at the muzzle.

About this shot: On my first shot I saw the powder fly, but the target was a bit obstructed by the ferns between me and the ball. I could just barely see the top of the ball through my scope and wasn't sure till my fourth shot when the wind blew the ferns a little to the side and revealed the ball was gone off the tee! I wish I had my second camera recording zoomed in at the target, but with the zoomed in cut away shot you can see the powderized ball with that beautiful white mist we all seek! Bring on 300+!

Whitetail with Texan Big Bore Air Rifle

On this trip I'm out with the AirForce Texan .357 on an end of season deer hunt in West Texas. But before I head down to the Salt Fork Ranch south of Abilene, I stopped by Airguns of Texas to pick up my gear, guns, air, and some of the 128 grain Devastator HP being manufactured there.

After checking zero on my gun and loading up the gear, I was on my way. I've been hunting a few times at Salt Fork properties this season, and will keep going back. The main property is 1000 acres, but it hunts much bigger because of its situation on the Colorado River which it backs onto.

It was very wet and muddy as I drove in, but I eventually parked, aired up my rifle and hiked about a half mile through the mud to one of the blinds set along a game conduit across the property. Besides the rain, it was also (for Texas) very cold. I pushed a big feral hog on my way in, but had my rifle strapped into the pack scabbard.

On arriving at the blind I spread some corn (legal in Texas) to move the animal into the 60 yard range, and settled in for the wait. A couple of bucks came in and offered good shots, but I'd decided I'd either take a really nice big buck, or a doe for the meat. My family has been after me to make biltong this year.

The bucks wandered off, and about a half hour later a couple doe came in, and gave me a shot. I pulled my shot a couple inches higher than intended, but it was a solid hit. The deer ran off to my right, and I saw it jump a fence then drop at about 25 yards from where she was hit.

With the conditions I couldn't get as close with the truck as I'd have liked to, and after attaching my tag had to drag the fat doe about 100 yards back before I could bring her to the wench to be gutted and prepared for the butcher on my way out of town.

The Texan .308 did a great job for me, and I have really been enjoying hunting with it. But after dropping the deer off at the processor, I needed to dash for Dallas to catch a morning flight back to Minneapolis....... but was not to sad to leave as I planned to be back a couple weeks later for a javalina hunt. I was well on my way to take a whitetail, Rio Grande turkey, and a javalina in this first Texas airgun season for a game animals!

The AirForce Texan .308 Hunting Feral Pigs

In this airgun hunt my AirForce Texan .308 was tuned by Airguns of Texas and I traveled back to the Lone Star state in pursuit of feral hogs. In this video I am hunting from a blind, and discuss my preference when it comes to shot placement.

In upcoming videos I'll exercise my entire collection of Texan Big Bore air rifles, including my .308, .357, .457 which include both rifles and carbines, out of the box standard rigs and a couple really nice custom jobs!

AirForce generates great hunting rifles, at a great price, and is perfect as a platform for customization. Let me know what you think of these rifles, give the video like, and please subscribe if you haven't already..... it really helps!
