There’s a lot of confusion about what rich snippets are and how they can help improve your SEO.

A snippet is the description that appears below a URL in the search engine results pages.

Most of the time, it’s just a line or two of text, but sometimes you’ll see extra information like pictures, videos, lists, reviews, star ratings, prices or apps.

These are all examples of rich snippets.

In simple terms, rich snippets are more detailed, attractive and structured versions of the standard text descriptions that usually display.

Because rich snippets are more attractive and useful for users, they tend to lead to higher click-through rates, which can be a factor in improving rankings over time.

A rich snippet also has a higher chance of becoming a featured snippet, also known as position zero, which is a result that appears at the very top of the search results in a large, prominent box.

These are becoming more and more coveted, as they’re so visible and also because they’re the results that are read out to people using voice search.

Regardless of your ranking in the search results, you can add rich snippets to your website and they will appear – thereby making your listing more attractive and compelling for users.

In order to add rich snippets to your search results, you need to add some HTML markup known as structured data to your webpages.

An SEO Specialist can generate the code using recognised frameworks to ensure they contain all the relevant information in a format that the search engines can read.

Rich snippets can be used for different content types, including reviews, products, events and videos.

They’re supported in multiple languages, so it’s worth adding them to all your international websites to get the best results in all markets.

Adding structured data markup to your website can have a really positive impact on your search engine performance, so if you want to boost your organic traffic, why not get in touch with us today?

We're going to start with defining the type of data that we want to add some structure to. Then we're going to create the JSON-LD that we need to add to our website. Then we're going to walk through how do we actually added to our website. We're going to give two different options. One adding it directly, and another using Tag Manager. And finally, we're going to wrap it all up by validating our code to make sure that it's firing correctly and we can get those rich listings that we're looking for.

Now, if you've watched our schema video before where we talked about the different types of schema, you may have been wondering, okay, how do I actually add this to my website? Local SEO & Structured Data Markup

Hi, Welcome to the weekly SEO tips for newbies video series. I am Chris Darling. I'm known as the Googler within my networking circles because I help businesses get to the first page of Google by dialing in their local SEO so that they can increase their visibility, make that phone ring and get more business from the Internet.

Now one of the things I focus on is Local SEO. This is when I help business owners to show up locally on the first page of Google and within the 3 pack of maps in their town for the services they offer. If your customer is searching on Google to find your services, this is the type of SEO you want to focus on; LOCAL.

One of the things I do in local SEO is use schema markup or structured data markup to identify your local business type and other details to the major search engines. I also use it to markup reviews or videos on your website.

Search engines like Google LOVE structured data markup. It helps them to better understand the information on your web pages. It's still debatable to whether this type of markup helps in your keyword rankings or not.

But one cool thing is that when used, this type of markup creates Rich Snippets in search results you get better click through rates. In other words, people are more likely to click on the result in the form of a rich snippet.

My point... use structured data markup whenever possible because it will help to attract more traffic to your website from search results.
