It is a beautiful place for solo travellers, couples and families. Crotia is known for it’s crystal clear water, pebbly beaches medieval cities and historic ruins. Split and Dubrovnik are two of the most popular places to stay in Croatia and for good reason. Split is close to many parks, waterfalls, and islands. Dubrovnik is unquestionably the place most people should see if not for its amazing historical architecture, but its beauty alone is not seen anywhere else.

Never Do This In Croatia ???????? 5 Things You DON'T DO In Hrvatska

In today's Croatia travel vlog, I discuss this topic: Never Do This In Croatia / Don't Do This in Hrvatska. Hrvatska is another name for Croatia in case you're wondering.

This is not a Croatia travel guide but a list of things not to do in Croatia. Most of the footage in this video is from Split Croatia, the island of Hvar and Dubrovnik Croatia. However, I spent most of my time in Split Croatia. I did have a couple Croatians help me come up with this list!

Croatia is one of the best places to visit in my opinion. You have beaches, cities, mountains, and lots of castles and old world charm. When you visit Croatia there are certain things that you probably shouldn't do. I got some input from my Croatia friends to make this list.

Never leave trash on the beach. Croatia is a beautiful country with amazing beaches. Croatians have done a really good job keeping their beaches very clean compared to many other places. There are public trash cans every where and they are are picked up regularly. There is no excuse for littering, when there is always a trashcan within walking distance at Croatian beaches.

Never talk about politics. There are lots of sensitive topics around the war with Serbia and the break up of Yugoslavia. Most families were impacted by the war in some way, so these are very personal subjects. It’s better not to get into these discussions.

Never forget to tip. I was so accustomed to not tipping in Asia that I didn’t tip at the first Croatian place I ate. I later learned that 10% is customary and you can bump that up to 15% for exceptional service. This is a great travel tip Croatia!

In most cases, never take the train in Croatia. Take the bus instead. Unlike a lot of Europe, Croatia’s train system isn’t the best. They don’t run very often. For instance there are only two train times to go from Zagreb to Split (or Dubrovnik Croatia). And they take a long time. The train ride from Zagreb to Split takes almost 6 hours when you can just drive it in 4 of even better take a 45 min flight that’ll only cost around $50 US dollars. But don’t fret - the busses are great!

Never call Croatia Yugoslavia or the former Yugoslavia. Similar to discussing politics, this is a sensitive subject. This would be like calling the US, the former England. Yes, we were a part of England before, but we are not the former England. Same thing. Croatia is Croatia….Yugoslavia was another country that doesn’t exist any longer.

I filmed this Croatia travel vlog sitting on the beautiful Adriatic Sea watching the sunrise.

Croatia full of magic, so travel Croatia and like this video!

Croatia Restarts Tourism Industry Again - Croatia's 2nd Year of Travel & Tourism Successful Despite Pandemic

✈ In this video:

0:00 - Croatia Open For American Tourists: Croatia Re-Opens Borders For Tourism

01:27 - Croatia Now Open For American Tourists third-country nationals are allowed entry

Croatia has now reopened for a second time and is once again allowing visitors from the United States and other countries outside the EU to visit as tourists.

The removal of the tourism clause paired with increased rules effectively halted third-party travelLers from visiting the nation over the past few months.

02:22 - Croatia Entry Requirements

Any tourist wanting to visit Croatia should be ready with proof of their pre-paid hotel booking or similar touristic accommodation.

This currently makes Croatia the only EU nation that American tourists can visit for leisure without needing to prove an urgent essential reason or be subject to harsh quarantines.

All Americans and other third-party country visitors will have to abide by a few other entry rules

03:22 - Testing and Vaccination Requirements

Croatia is giving tourists a choice in how they would like to prove their safe entry into the country.

Visitors from third-party countries have the choice of the following:

Show proof of vaccination - Croatia recognizes both the 2 dose and 1 dose vaccines and requires that at least 14 days have passed since the last shot has been administered.

PCR or antigen test - Travelers can also show proof of a negative PCR or approved antigen-type test, performed no longer than 48 hours before arrival.

Proof of recovery - Passengers who’ve had the virus and recovered can also use this for entry.
Proof of a positive test between 11 days and 180 days old is accepted, or a recovery certificate from a physician.

By giving visitors the choice of many entry options, Croatia will likely return to being a world leader in pandemic-era travel, with one of the best rebounding tourism industries in Europe.

04:32 - Entry to Croatia from the EU and Approved Nations

Passengers from these ‘green’ EU nations as defined by the ECDC or the ‘low-risk’ third-party nations of Australia, South Korea, Rwanda, Singapore, Thailand, and New Zealand, can enter Croatia for any reason and skip testing or vaccination requirements.

CROATIA TRAVEL GUIDE - 10 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING | 19-09-2019

In this Croatia Travel guide, I will give you 10 things to know before visiting this little slice of paradise near the Adriatic sea.

I filmed this video from my room in Cavtat, the night before my very early morning departure back to Melbourne.

Here we go (time stamped below!):

1: (1:52) Bring Kuna & Euro before you arrive (currencies)
2: (3:00) Tap water is safe
3: (3:58) Croatia is expensive
4: (6:45) Bring water shoes (chocs)
5: (9:10) Power adapters
6: (9:23) Bring mosquito repellent
7: (10:05) English is widely spoken
8: (10:50) Plan your island adventures in advance
9: (12:15) Plan a road trip to nearby country
10: (13:47) Try local wine and bread (with olive oil)

In terms of being expensive, Robyn and I spent somewhere between $110-$155 AUD per day for food on a conservative budget. We didn't order big meals like cuts of meat, lobster, or alcoholic beverages. On some occasions, we had an Aperol Spritz during the mid afternoon. Almost every day, we would just have ordinary fish and chips for dinner!

Expect to pay (alot) of money for your adventures in Croatia.

If you are planning an adventure in Croatia, let me know in the comments!

MORE ABROAD AT HOME BUCKET LIST SERIES☞

If you are DESPERATELY missing travel right now, I want this bucket list series to help reignite your love for travel by getting you curious and teaching you about some of my favorite bucket list-worthy destinations.

In this series, we're going to travel to countries like India, Greece, Croatia, Argentina & so many more! I'll teach you what you need to see, do and know before you visit so that you can start plotting out which places you'd like to visit once it's safe to do so.

If you found this video helpful and or mildly entertaining, I hope you'll consider checking out some of my affiliate links below. I receive a small compensation if you choose to purchase at no additional cost to you. Thank you for your continued support of Alle Abroad!

WHO’S ALLE? AND WHY IS SHE ABROAD?
✈ Hey! Hi! It’s me Alle Pierce! I help the overpacking, luxury-loving, independent woman travel deeper on her next adventure with my travel tips, authentic advice, and binge-worthy videos.

✈ I'm an Emmy award-winning Journalist who traded in her pencil skirt for a passport in 2018. Now I travel the world with my luxury travel advisor mum Linda (you'll see her A LOT on here) and work as a freelance show host for some of my favorite tourism boards, brands and events.
