The interesting story of our educational system | Adhitya Iyer | TEDxCRCE

A story surrounding more than a million students in India built around a booming IT industry, a machine like education system, a race to a seat amongst the top engineering colleges and student suicides in our system. The Indian education system in all its complexity has turned out to be one of the most fascinating educational stories in the world. Watch Adhitya Iyer in his talk share his travel around the country discovering the truth behind the common engineer in India.

Adhitya Iyer completed his engineering degree from Mumbai University, where he studied in an institute interestingly named after Sardar Patel and was inaugurated by Nehru. He was listed as one of India's Top 30 student entrepreneurs by the NEN. He later spent 2 years in Bangalore selling chai, before he set out to write a non-fiction on the complex life of India's engineers is Kickstarter funded and is India's highest crowdfunded book. He thinks the society needs to be re-imagined and that humans can't be spending more than half their life doing something they seldom enjoy.

Education in India: Are students failing or the system?! | Sonam Wangchuk | TEDxGateway

In this talk, Sonam Wangchuk shares his experience of bringing education reforms in the trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh, India.

Sonam Wangchuk is the founder of Students' Educational & Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL).
While he was doing his mechanical engineering at NIT Srinagar he understood the hardships faced by the Ladakhi students in the government schools; 95% of them were failing in their matric exams every year. Once he finished his graduation, he went back to Ladakh and started SECMOL together with some like-minded youth.

After initially starting with coaching classes to help matric students, they soon realized that for a lasting solution they needed to bring reforms in the village primary schools. So they launched an education reform movement in collaboration with the government. Within seven years the results went up from 5% to 55%. Today it stands at 75%. For those who still failed, they set up a very special and innovative school which has produced many inspiring stories.

Indian education system especially in Engineering has failed

I am not just complaining. I am going to see that the system changes. It may take time and more people but I believe that it will change. I appreciate and respect every teacher who is giving his 100% to help the students.
Dear students,
Instead of becoming intolerant towards a religion, try becoming intolerant to bad teaching in the colleges. Make sure that all the colleges do the justice to the fees that you are paying.
Dear Faculty and the management of the colleges,
If you really think that it is the student's responsibility to search for various resources to learn, then why should they be paying for colleges? Why should they attend the classes? I am not talking about the things that are not in the curriculum. If you still feel that students should read only the books to gain the knowledge, then please make it an open university and do not force students to come to the college to get the degree. They will learn from books and good teachers somewhere else without wasting their time in the college.

English Medium Education is Injustice on Indian Students (HINDI) | Indian Treasury of Wisdom

It is not secret why the British replaced the indigenous education system and Sanskrit Pathshalas with English Medium Education. Sanskrit Culture and Vedic knowledge were the backbone of India before the British. This backbone had to be broken. English Medium Education did it to a great extent. After independence India had the opportunity to decolonize itself from this but due to wealthy politicians who preferred English Language over others did not do so. After Independence too English Medium Schools are still treated ‘Better Schools’ than of other languages. Students studying in Smaller Cities and Rural Areas are still today not allowed to have their Higher Education in their Native Language. India is the only developing nation in the world where in Schools today a Foreign Language 'English' is taught ahead of the native Languages of the country. As it is not a local Language Children Fail to Learn Subjects Quickly and even struggle to speak in it. PISA Test Results of 20009 in which India came 73rd out of 74 Countries proved the same. People are not given Jobs who do not speak English. This Video presents you Various aspects where Students in India are getting suppressed by the English Language Obsession of India and cannot show their full potential to the World. Do Check out the Video for Interesting Facts ! Thanks !
