The Growing Pains Of A Teenage Genius (Kid Genius) | Full Documentary | Reel Truth

What do you do when your child is gifted and their academic ability has overtaken yours? In a lot of ways 13-year-old Cameron Thompson is a normal teenage boy - obsessed with computer games, sporting the first hints of a moustache and a newfound interest in girls. But he is also a maths genius who is currently doing an Open University degree in applied mathematics and it is this ability that has singled him out. That, and an intense social awkwardness his parents put down to his Asperger's Syndrome. Can Cameron balance the need to remain the genius he has always been - and therefore different - with the classic teenage longing to be accepted?

Beautiful Minds: The Enigma of Genius

Immanuel Kant, who coined the term genius in the 1700s, defined it as the rare capacity to independently understand concepts that would normally have to be taught by another person. Since then, the spectrum of abilities that we call genius has widened, but pivotal questions remain: What exactly is genius? Where do the remarkable abilities of genius come from? Is genius something that lives within all of us, or is it a categorically different way of seeing the world that is bestowed upon only a few? With the emergence of new imaging technologies and a fundamental shift in the understanding of how information is spread through our brains, we’re beginning to find some answers. We joined neuroscientists, psychologists, renowned thinkers, and special performers as they untangled the complicated nature of genius, creativity, and exceptionality.

This program is part of the Big Ideas Series, made possible with support from the John Templeton Foundation.

The World Science Festival gathers great minds in science and the arts to produce live and digital content that allows a broad general audience to engage with scientific discoveries. Our mission is to cultivate a general public informed by science, inspired by its wonder, convinced of its value, and prepared to engage with its implications for the future.

15,000 Kids and Counting: The Search (Adoption) | Full Documentary | Reel Truth

This episode follows the search for adoptive parents to a two year old boy and a three and seven year old brother and sister. With the added challenges of having slightly older children, siblings and a child with possible health issues to place, the task for social workers Annette and Jackie is a massive one.

Child protection levels in Britain are at a record high. On average, one child is taken into care in Britain every 20 minutes and over 15,000 children were waiting to be adopted last year alone, double that of five years ago. With unparalleled access to the entire adoption process, this three-part documentary series follows social workers, foster carers, birth parents and adopters as heart-wrenchingly difficult decisions are made about the future of some of Britain’s most vulnerable children. From the makers of the award nominated Britain’s Sex Gangs, executive producer Brian Woods and director Chris Eley bring you this in-depth series following the entire adoption process, from the parents who are desperately fighting to keep their children to the couples eagerly waiting to become adoptive parents and bring a child into their home.
