So, we’ve done a brand new edit of the video for you with some extra cool footage added in…

Lemme know which era you want us to feature next in the comments!

As always, see you in the shed…

Scott :)

Rather Splendid Walking Tour of Kensington - London

Joolz takes you on a quirky and rather splendid walk around Kensington, one of London's most exclusive neighbourhoods. See the shops where Princess Diana frequented and the house where Freddie Mercury lived.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is where Kensington Palace sits and hence Princess Diana walked these streets. There is also Kensington Palace Gardens, London's most expensive street and some cute little museums. We visit Linley Sambourne House as well as antique shops and vintage clothing stores.
Michael German Antiques is where I bought my walking cane and Hornets is wear I've bought many of my bowler hats and boating blazers.
All this and much more in this fun Joolz Guide about Kensington.

Pausanias, Modern Folklore, and Literal Ghosts of Place

Pausanias shows an interest in all sorts of ‘ghosts of place’ throughout his description of Greece during the Roman period. For almost every location, he cites myths, folk tales and historical tidbits about the area, and so every location is haunted by folk memories of heroes, villains, builders, monuments, battles and other echoes of Classical Greece. Pausanias also tells six stories about literal ghosts, that is, about appearances of deceased mortals to the living.
Pausanias’ stories are, of course, tied inextricably to particular places. This paper will compare Pausanias’ ghost stories with superficially similar modern narratives. It will ask to what extent we can see continuity in oral traditions about ghosts tied to specific places from ancient Greece through to the modern world, and in what ways Pausanias’ reporting of ancient Greek folklore differs from modern oral, written, and online traditions.

In this Episode Papu Doing As Ghost Finder

Ghost, soul or spectre of a dead person, usually believed to inhabit the netherworld and to be capable of returning in some form to the world of the living. According to descriptions or depictions provided by believers, a ghost may appear as a living being or as a nebulous likeness of the deceased or, occasionally, in other forms. Belief in ghosts is based on the ancient notion that a human spirit is separable from the body and may maintain its existence after the body’s death. In many societies, funeral rituals are believed to prevent the ghost from haunting the living.

In folklore, a ghost (sometimes known as an apparition, haunt, phantom, poltergeist, shade, specter or spectre, spirit, spook, and wraith) is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal that can appear to the living. Descriptions of ghosts vary widely from an invisible presence to translucent or barely visible wispy shapes, to realistic, lifelike visions. The deliberate attempt to contact the spirit of a deceased person is known as necromancy, or in spiritism as a séance.

The belief in the existence of an afterlife, as well as manifestations of the spirits of the dead is widespread, dating back to animism or ancestor worship in pre-literate cultures. Certain religious practices—funeral rites, exorcisms, and some practices of spiritualism and ritual magic—are specifically designed to rest the spirits of the dead. Ghosts are generally described as solitary, human-like essences, though stories of ghostly armies and the ghosts of animals rather than humans have also been recounted. They are believed to haunt particular locations, objects, or people they were associated with in life.

The overwhelming consensus of science is that ghosts do not exist.Their existence is impossible to falsify, and ghost hunting has been classified as pseudoscience.Despite centuries of investigation, there is no scientific evidence that any location is inhabited by spirits of the dead.

“Still Life” (Lyrics)

Oil and resin like blood on the floor
Flowers and feathers strung up on the wall
Another white canvas stretched to the frame
Did the fear of failure haunt you the same?

Toronto to London your paints in your arm
Came out with a medal and your scars from the war
Would you switch it for all the success of your peers?
Oh where are you now got lost to the years

Oooooo…

Sun on the water, another red dawn
Was the mist around Hammersmith Bridge getting worn?
When the colours were fading under the stars
Were you still trying to paint that ache in your heart?

Dark Streets of London - The Pogues

My first Pogues' favorite song.
A classic for ever...

---

I like to walk in the summer breeze
Down Dalling Road by the dead old trees
And drink with my friends
In the Hammersmith Broadway
Dear dirty delightful old drunken old days

Then the winter came down and I loved it so dearly
The pubs and the bookies where you'd spend all your time
And the old men that were singing
When The Roses Bloom Again
And turn like the leaves
To a new summertime

Now the winter comes down
I can't stand the chill
That comes to the streets around Christmas time
And I'm buggered to damnation
And I haven't got a penny
To wander the dark streets of London

And every time that I look on the first day of summer
Takes me back to the place where they gave ECT
And the drugged up psychos
With death in their eyes
And how all of this really
Means nothing to me

Now the winter comes down
I can't stand the chill
That comes to the streets around Christmas time
And I'm buggered to damnation
And I haven't got a penny
To wander the dark streets of London

And every time that I look on the first day of summer
Takes me back to the place where they gave ECT
And the drugged up psychos
With death in their eyes
And how all of this really
Means nothing to me

And now the winter comes down
I can't stand the chill
That comes to the streets around Christmas time
And I'm buggered to damnation
And I haven't got a penny
To wander the dark streets of London
To wander the dark streets of London
To wander the dark streets of London
