Giancarlo Giannini, an actor of reference in Italian cinema and featuring in the series of short
movies “THE GOOD ITALIAN” started by Caruso in 2015, once again plays the Prince of Soragna,
the current descendant of the house of the Meli Lupi princes, who have lived in the splendid Rocca
di Soragna in the province of Parma since 1198.

In this episode, the Prince sets off from the courtyard of the Rocca with his legendary Lancia
Aurelia B24, and arrives in Milan at the Four Seasons Hotel, a former convent since the end of the
15th century, founded by the sisters of St. Mary of Jesus, hence the present-day name of the street,
today the epicentre of male style.

Caruso and Four Seasons invite the international guests of the Milan Fashion Week to visit
the exclusive parts of the Hotel where the movie was shot:
the lobby with its original frescoes, where the gentlemen of Milan meet for business and
conversation; the futuristic kitchens, almost a laboratory of alchemy, where in a game of roles
Giannini − who defines himself the king of pesto − prepares his secret recipe debating with
the award-winning chef Vito Mollica; the most private and quiet of suites on the top floor, hung
with precious fabrics and dedicated by Caruso to the opera; the cloister of the convent, with the
age-old tree that witnesses the miraculous “conversion” of the skeptical niece thanks to the now
famous trenette al pesto.

Caruso presents: The Good Italian III - The Magic of Naples - starring Giancarlo Giannini

Giancarlo Giannini in his now usual role as the Prince of Soragna, a small town in the lower Po Valley, the starting and ending point of all the adventures in the series, is absorbed by the daily shaving ritual with his family barber, in this case played by the real Prince of Soragna, Diofebo Meli Lupi.
A dear friend, the Italian tenor Vittorio Grigólo, arrives breathlessly and asks the Prince, who is half Neapolitan, for advice on the best rendering of the famous song “O Paese d’o Sole” with in the background the version by Roberto Murolo, the unmistakable voice and sophisticated performer of the tradition.
The difficulty is obviously not technical for the great tenor but lies in looking for that expressivity and passion in interpretation that has made this musical form, deriving from great Italian melodrama, one of the best loved in the world.
The Prince knows that the secret lies in the authenticity of the emotion expressed by the song and only by becoming impregnated with the essence of that place which is both dramatic and enchanting at one and the same time, Naples, will the tenor’s voice be able to express its seductive and inimitable power.
Accompanied by his loyal Fefé who in this film is plunged in an amorous enchantment and in the silent search for ecstatic emotion, the Prince accompanies Grigólo on an “immersion” into the essence of being Neapolitan, far from the common stereotypes.
The Gulf, the old squares, the noisy alleys, the fried pizzella on the street corner, the lemons, the posteggiatori, the terrace in Posillipo with a view of Vesuvius… it’s all true... “and it’s all necessary”
Only through perceiving the essence of the city, the cradle of European culture since the 18th century, can the tenor be convincing and seduce his public.
At the end of an ideal day - “when you look for perfection, time does not exist” - the great tenor is ready for the performance in the magnificent Rocca di Soragna where all the actors of the film appear in a final scene inspired by the great Federico Fellini.
The emotion reaches its zenith: the Prince nods in satisfaction, Fefé is at the height of excitement and he discovers the meaning of love in his sensitive soul, and there is applause all round.

Main actors
Giancarlo Giannini - the Prince of Soragna
Vittorio Grigólo - the Prince’s tenor friend
Emanuele Angeloni - Fefé, the Prince’s godson

CARUSO presents THE GOOD ITALIAN II - starring Giancarlo Giannini

CARUSO presents THE GOOD ITALIAN II - The prince goes to Milan - starring Giancarlo Giannini by FC

The prince goes to the city, Milan, to meet a mysterious lady who turns out to be his nice. Travelling in a very elegant Lancia Aurelia B24, a symbol of Italian design and industry in the world, and driven by the faithful Fefé, new more of a goldchild than a butler, he chooses the secret enclave which is most similar to the atmospheres of the princely Rocca in Soragna: the Four Season Hotel. Formerly the Convent of St. Mary of Jesus for more than three centuries, its cloister with a garden, which the very quiet suite of the Prince looks on to, conceals one of its darest secret: a small plant of precious basil that the nuns cultivated in the 16th century, essential for the most exquisite of all: trenette with pesto! After a flying visit to the Michelin-starred kitchen of the hotel and to the place of Italian tailoring worthiest of the prince, under the centuries-old tree which offers its shade to the Garden, the table is laid and the dinner is ready... The secret recipe will convert the cosmopolitan young lady, spoilt by the most clichéd frivolous luxuries, to the refined pleasure offered by the Italian lifestyle, that the whole world seeks and envies: cheers!

Sprezzatura Explained – DOs & DON’Ts – The Art Of Looking Effortless + How To Pull It Off

00:00 Introduction

00:27 Sprezzatura

It is an Italian term and meets as much as casual elegance that looks effortless and nonchalant. Even though it's not a term that was super popular 10 or 15 years ago, it actually has quite a bit of history. In fact, it was first used in Castiglione's book of the Courtier which is a classic of Italian Renaissance literature. The goal of sprezzatura was to teach noblemen on how to cultivate an elegant lifestyle while appearing natural and unrehearsed about it.

As with many things, sprezzatura has evolved over time. In the last half a century, it has mostly become an idea of imperfection. One person that's very closely connected to sprezzatura is the Italian industrialist Gianni Agnelli. He obviously broke traditional style rules, for example, he wore his wristwatch on top of the shirt cuff rather than underneath.

If you go to Pitti Uomo today, you'll see the majority of men will either have a tie that is tucked in or one blade especially the back blade is longer than the front. Agnelli really finds sprezzatura in a way that he cultivated what would otherwise look as a bold style error.

The Dangers of Sprezzatura

04:55 1. It has its time and place

First of all, recognize that sprezzatura is meant for specific situations: you can’t wear loafers without socks when attending the Queen’s Garden Party in Buckingham Palace. The same applies when you’re in court or climbing the corporate ladder.

05:16 2. Keep it low key
It’s also possible to go too far and end up looking ridiculous and contrived, so restraint is still the name of the game.  Today, sprezzatura tends to look more like the flamboyant style of Agnelli’s grandson Lapo Elkann than Agnelli himself.

06:00 3. Try to be original
Lastly, sprezzatura is accomplished best when one’s nonchalance is unique, graceful and original. Following the examples you see in photos of Pitti Uomo can, therefore, become its own kind of conformity, and people will know it.

Ways to Do Sprezzatura

06:41 1. Leave Buttons and Buckles Undone
09:06 2. Play Around with Your Necktie
09:54 3. Wear Your Belt Long

That being said, it’s fair to acknowledge that it is not easy to come up with a truly original take on sprezzatura these days; our best advice is to find something that appeals to you and wear it with confidence.

Italian Gentleman - Art of Shaving - Rasatura - Barbieria Colla - Italian Men's Grooming

Antica Barbieria Colla is the most famous barber shop in Milan, known for prestige, for its traditions and widely recommended by its Italian and International clientele. Founded by Dino Colla in 1904, the Barbershop is the place to seek hair, beard and mustaches treatment as well as to meet famous people.
When entering the store one has the impression of travelling through time into a world where attention to the customer and detailed care are sacred and inviolable values. Shaving at the Barbershop is a ritual of great charm: a warm cloth, pre-shave cream, animal hair brush, razor blade that caresses the skin without irritating it, another cream, other cloths, and enormous attention during all phases of the process, a truly attentive service.
Under the leadership of its current owner Franco Bompieri, who has been working in the same historical shop since 1960, the “Antica Barbieria Colla” has consolidated its prestige. As well as providing impeccable hair-cuts and shaves, the owner is also a well-known writer, author of several books.
The products used in the shop are created especially for the skin treatments. They are prepared following an ancient tradition passed on from owner to owner. Up to a short time ago such products were used in the Barbershop primarily. The strong demand by customers and friends motivated Francesca Bompieri, Franco’s daughter, to make her marketing experience available to the family business with the creation of an exclusive line of products for hair and face called “Antica Barbieria Colla”.
