WATCH: Nicholas Sandmann’s full speech at the Republican National Convention | 2020 RNC Night 2

Nicholas Sandmann, a Covington Catholic High School student whose viral encounter during a March for Life rally was the subject of lawsuits against national media organizations, spoke on the second night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 25, 2020. Sandmann's family, which claimed that his interaction with a Native American activist was misrepresented in media coverage, reached settlements with CNN and The Washington Post over how they portrayed the incident. Nathan Phillips, the Native American activist featured in the viral moment, said the heated exchange initially began between the Catholic students and a group of Black men who identified themselves as Hebrew Israelites. Phillips has told news outlets he stepped in to disperse the tension by praying. The party planned a mix of virtual and in-person events in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., for its nominating convention after the coronavirus pandemic interrupted plans for a traditional nominating event.

WATCH: Eric Trump’s full speech at the Republican National Convention | 2020 RNC Night 2

President Trump’s son Eric Trump spoke on the second night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 25, 2020. He touted the strong economy, saying “Unemployment reached historic lows, especially for Black Americans, Hispanic Americans and Women,” under his father’s tenure. Black unemployment hit a record low prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but these numbers had already been declining before Trump took office. Black and Latino unemployment rates -- while still higher than white and Asian jobless rates -- had been falling steadily since 2010. This is true for the women’s unemployment rate, as well. During his speech, Eric Trump warned that “Biden has pledged to raise your taxes by $4 trillion,” and said that “82% of all Americans will see their taxes go up significantly” should Joe Biden be elected. The Tax Policy Center estimates that Biden’s proposed tax plan would raise federal revenues by $4 trillion over the next decade, with about half of this revenue coming from higher taxes on high-income households, and the other half coming from higher taxes on businesses, in particular, corporations. Americans in the top 1 percent of the income bracket would see a 12 percent increase in their average federal tax rate, according to this analysis. Trump also claimed that Biden wants to defund the police as well as take away Americans’ Second Amendment rights. Biden has said in interviews and op-eds that he does not support defunding the police. He has proposed a gun control plan that would institute universal background checks, an assault weapons ban, and put more resources into enforcing existing gun laws.

Donald Trump Jr., Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization, spoke on the first night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 24, 2020. Trump Jr. praised his father’s response to the virus pandemic, which has killed nearly 170,000 people in the U.S., according to the COVID Tracking Project. He said the coronavirus struck “courtesy of the Chinese Communist Party.” Research shows that the genetic makeup of the virus indicates it could not have been man-made and manufactured in a lab. The party planned a mix of virtual and in-person events in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., for its nominating convention after the coronavirus pandemic interrupted plans for a traditional nominating event.

No one has been a victim of unfair media coverage more than President Donald Trump: Nick Sandmann

Nick Sandmann delivers remarks at the 2020 Republican National Convention. He is the Kentucky high school student who reached settlements with CNN and The Washington Post stemming from coverage of a 2019 confrontation with a Native American activist at the Lincoln Memorial.

“I look forward to the day that the media returns to providing balanced, responsible and accountable news coverage. I know President Trump hopes for that too,” Sandmann said.

“I know you’ll agree with me when I say no one in this county has been a victim of unfair media coverage more than President Donald Trump,” he said.

Sandmann had been the target of significant criticism after a video went viral featuring him standing in front of an Omaha tribe leader at the 2019 March for Life rally in Washington, D.C. But later videos and additional reporting showed Sandmann and other students from Covington Catholic High School being taunted and jeered at by other people at the protest.

Sandmann ended his speech by quoting Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” and donning one of the signature red baseball caps bearing the same phrase. Sandmann had worn the same hat in the video that swept through social media last year.

WATCH: Ivanka Trump’s full speech at the Republican National Convention | 2020 RNC Night 4

Ivanka Trump, a businesswoman and adviser to the president, introduced her father as the Republican nominee on the final night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 27, 2020. Ivanka credited the president with leading nationwide shutdowns across the U.S. at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in order to save lives, but these decisions were largely driven by state governors and other local leaders. Trump once indicated he was more concerned about the economy than the virus, saying the cure for COVID-19 cannot be worse than the problem itself. Ivanka touted the state of the economy under the president’s tenure, saying, “I watched him take the strongest, most inclusive economy in our lifetime; the lowest unemployment in half a century, and the highest wage increase for working families in decades.” While U.S. unemployment was at its lowest in 50 years prior to COVID-19, average hourly wage growth has been higher in decades prior, and the wealth gap has continued to expand since Trump took office. Ivanka claimed that through Republican tax cuts, “our child tax credit put over $2,000 into the pockets of 40 million American families.” This tax credit has been in place since 1997 and benefited 35 million American families under Obama. She said not a single Democrat voted to increase the Child Tax Credit in 2017, but nine Senate Democrats voted for a change to a tax bill that year that would have done so. She also touted legislation that will expand family leave to millions of Americans this October, but this only applies to federal workers -- the majority of U.S. workers still do not have paid family leave. Finally, Trump said her father “rewrote history” by negotiating a peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, although the deal has been sharply criticized by Palestinian leaders.
