Sen. Joni Ernst spoke on the third night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 26, 2020. Ernst warned that Biden was pushing the “so-called Green New Deal” saying that his administration would essentially ban animal agriculture and eliminate gas-powered cars. Biden hasn't embraced the Green New Deal, though his proposed climate plan has some similarities. His plan would assist farmers adopting climate-friendly practices like soil conservation and methane digesters. The plan also includes incentives for electric vehicles but has no outright ban on gas-powered cars..

WATCH: Vice President Mike Pence’s full speech at the Republican National Convention

Vice President Mike Pence spoke on the third night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 26, 2020. The vice president began his speech by saying the Trump administration “inherited a military hollowed out by devastating budget cuts,” when he entered office, as well as “an economy struggling to break out of the slowest recovery since the great depression.” Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic the economy had been growing steadily for a decade, including under former President Barack Obama, but it had been the slowest economic recovery since World War II. Pence touted the administration’s operation to take down Iran’s top military general, Qassem Soleimani, a decision that former Vice President and Democratic nominee Joe Biden criticized. Pence said Biden’s rebuke of Soleimani’s killing was not surprising “because history records that Joe Biden even opposed the operation that took down Osama Bin Laden.” Biden has previously recounted that he told Obama during a 2011 national security meeting to wait for confirmation on Bin Laden’s location before ordering his killing, but later backtracked and said he told the former president to follow his instincts on the raid. In regard to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pence spoke of the administration's partnership with the private sector on producing supplies and conducting testing for the novel coronavirus. Pence said the U.S. was conducting 800,000 COVID-19 tests a day, although this number has fluctuated between 600,000 and 800,000 in recent weeks, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The vice president also spoke about the administration’s pledge to produce 100,000 ventilators in 100 days. An Associated Press analysis of federal data showed the Department of Health and Human Services was on track to exceed this goal as of mid-July, but because of a decrease in demand, the $3 billion initiative could actually lead to a surplus of ventilators. Pence also praised the administration for slowing the spread of the virus -- while daily cases are falling by at least 5 percent in 31 U.S. states, they are also rising by at least as much in more than a dozen states. The vice president repeated a claim previously made by Trump that Biden wants to end school choice. While Biden opposes using federal funding to pay for private school tuition, his platform supports public school choice. He also said that whereas Trump has pursued “energy independence” for the U.S., Biden would “abolish fossil fuels, end fracking,” and impose climate change policies that would hurt working families. Biden re-committed to ending fossil fuel subsidies last week after facing pressure from environmental groups, and has said he supports stopping new permits for fracking. He does not support a nationwide fracking ban.

WATCH: Sister Dede Byrne’s full speech at the Republican National Convention | 2020 RNC Night 3

Sister Dede Byrne spoke on the third night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 26, 2020. She retired as a colonel from the U.S. Army Medical Corps in 2009 and is the superior of the D.C. Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts. Byrne spoke of her opposition to abortion, saying, As a physician, I can say unequivocally life begins at conception. State-level debates on abortion have centered around when the heartbeat of a fetus can be detected, and some legislatures have passed laws that ban the procedure as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. Byrne called Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris “the most anti-life presidential ticket ever,” adding that they “support the horrors of late-term abortion and infanticide.” Biden’s stance on abortion has evolved throughout his political career -- in 1973 he said that the Supreme Court went “too far” in deciding Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that legalized abortion nationwide, but he now supports codifying it into federal law. Harris has called for eliminating the Hyde Amendment -- which bans federal funding from being used for most abortions.

Michael McHale, president of the National Association of Police Organizations, spoke on the third night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 26, 2020. During his remarks, he said Kamala Harris’ legislation to further restrict police, and that Senator Harris’ legislation provides less training, not more, for law enforcement. Harris has co-sponsored at least two pieces of legislation that would require more training for police, specifically for “training on racial bias and the duty to intervene as part of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. Another bill she co-sponsored, the Police Training and Independent Review Act of 2019 would have provided grants for states requiring fair and impartial police training.
