WEEK 1 HAWAII FAMILY QUARANTINE Moving During Covid 19 Coronavirus

[Reuploaded] Here's how our family spent our first week quarantined at home in Hawaii. Since we moved back to Oahu during the Covid 19 Coronavirus pandemic, we are required to stay in our new apartment for our first 14 days. We wish we could get outside in the bright sunshine! We haven't really settled in yet, but at least our young kids have been finding ways to entertain themselves indoors. Hopefully during our second week quarantined we will get our minimalist furniture-free apartment organized and feeling like home. Stay tuned for our next family quarantine vlog!

Coronavirus: WHO promises more for COVID-19 research as worldwide cases near 23 million | FULL

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during Friday's COVID-19 briefing that they're committed to working with countries to advance research on COVID-19's long-term effects.

He said he and Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove from WHO's emergencies program met with Long COVID SOS group, representing patients with long-term effects from COVID-19, and that they asked for more recognition rehabilitation, and research.

Dr. Tedros addressed the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases around the world, saying that progress doesn't mean victory.

The fact is that most people remain susceptible to this virus, he added.

The director-general said while many countries are seeing case resurgence, lockdowns can't be a long-term solution for any country.

We don't have to choose between lives and livelihoods, or between health and the economy, He said, urging countries to stick to the health guidance while reopening.

He also addressed the Ebola outbreak the Equateur province of the Republic of Congo reaching 100 cases with 43 deaths and expressed concerns over delays of treatment, saying that the longer a patient goes without treatment the lower their chance of survival.

The world has now over 22 million cases and over 795,000 deaths due to COVID-19.

Coronavirus Outbreak (COVID - 19): WHO Update (21 August 2020)

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the COVID-19 pandemic has “given new impetus to the need to accelerate efforts to respond to climate change.”

Speaking to reporters today (21 Aug) in Geneva, Tedros reiterated that the pandemic has “given us a glimpse of our world as it could be: cleaner skies and rivers. Building back better means building back greener.

WHO’s Dr Maria Neira said, You will be more susceptible to develop morbidity and mortality because those diseases that are caused as well by exposure to air pollution will make you more vulnerable.”

She continued, “it will increase your risk and your susceptibility, therefore, we don't know about the correlation, the real correlation between the mortality of COVID and exposure to air pollution but we know for sure that there's an important risk factor that we need to tackle.”

Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, WHOS’s COVID-19 Technical lead said what is important when we consider schools is we consider the context in which schools are operating. Schools do not operate in isolation, they operate in communities and they work in communities. And if there is the virus circulating in those communities, if there's widespread transmission in those communities, or intense transmission, the virus can enter the school system.”

She noted that it is important that “what is done in the community of trying to reduce transmission and bring those outbreaks under control, is really what the focus needs to be then to consider opening schools.

Dr Michael Ryan, Executive Director of WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme told reporters that it is very important “when we talk about the context of schools or the wearing of masks in schools, and as that guidance emerges, that the wearing of masks is not an alternative to physical distancing, it's not an alternative to hand washing, it's not an alternative to decompressing class size, it's not an alternative to all of the other measures. “

He added, “just because kids or others put masks on does not mean we can forget about the other measures.

Ryan also said, this virus is not displaying a similar wave-like pattern, clearly when the disease is not under control, it jumps straight back up. But from that perspective, the classic wave pattern of the 1918-1919 pandemic was very clear. But it did take three complete waves for that disease to spread around the world and infect most susceptibles.

Updating reporters on the Ebola outbreak in the Equateur province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tedros said, “the outbreak continues to increase and to spread geographically. Yesterday the 100th case was reported, with 43 deaths in 11 health zones across the province. There is currently a delay of about 5 days from the onset of symptoms to when an alert about a suspected case is raised. This is concerning.

He also said, there continues to be an urgent need for increased human resources and logistics capacity to support an effective response across an ever-expanding geographical area, and to help health officials identify cases earlier.”

Tedro said, that the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has developed a plan that needs about 40 million U.S. dollars. He urged partners to support this plan.

WEEK 2 HAWAII FAMILY QUARANTINE Settling in During Covid-19 Coronavirus

During our second week quarantined in Hawaii, our family started to settle into our new home. It's been hard staying home for two weeks straight. The kids are starting to go stir crazy. We are hoping that once we finish our 14-day quarantine we will be able to go outside for a walk. There is talk of another stay home order coming soon to Oahu, Hawaii. We just want some fresh air first!

Currently parks and beaches are closed, so even after our quarantine at home, we won't be able to go to the beach.

Have you been quarantined? How did you pass the time? Have you moved to another state during the Covid 19 Coronavirus pandemic? How did it go?

Hawaii Lieutenant Governor Josh Green joins the COVID-19 Care Conversation

May 28, 2020 - Lt. Gov. Josh Green joined the COVID-19 Care Conversation to talk about the current state of COVID-19 in Hawaii and when the community will see travel quarantine restrictions lifted.

The lieutenant governor believes the interisland passenger quarantine should have been lifted already based on the fact that the state has had so few cases over recent weeks. While he agrees that it is important to be cautious, he is concerned about the lifelong consequences on the economy. “We have to open up and we should do it right now when the prevalence of disease is lowest,” he said.

WE’RE JUST TRYING TO GO HOME | Driving 5300km During Pandemic | Van Life (Guatemala to Canada)

We’re just trying to go home. A Week of Van Life in a global pandemic Crossing Borders.

This pandemic has us making fast decisions. We are boondocking alone and making an effort to stay isolated on a tranquil farm. We start to create a van life routine while hunkering down and isolated in Guatemala... However, things are changing so rapidly worldwide, our travel insurance cancelled due to COVID 19 and with too much uncertainty we made the extremely tough decision to start driving Guatemala to Canada. This week we take the fastest route, as we have just a few days to cross the Mexico- USA border. In this Van Life Vlog we cross the Guatemala Mexico border, Mexico USA border, & USA Canada border in our tiny home on wheels! Driving thousands of miles from Guatemala to Mexico, The United States, and lastly to our home and native land of Canada. In Canada we begin our mandatory 14 day quarantine while living in a van but feeling settled as we are closer to our families. We are still in disbelief that after months of traveling in a van we are right back where we started in just a few days. We feel we’ve made the right decision during this crisis as staying home is what will flatten the curve and bring us all peace.
