First Female Fighter Pilots of Indian Air Force Flying HAL HJT-16 Kiran Trainer Aircraft

NationalDefence Bureau,
New Delhi, 15 June 2016
The first batch of women Flight Cadets undergoing training for commissioning in Fighter Stream of Flying Branch will be passing out after successful completion of training. Combined Graduation Parade Spring Term -2016 for the flying cadets is scheduled to be held on 18 June 2016 at Air Force Academy, Hyderabad. Raksha Mantri Manohar Parrikar, who took the bold decision of allowing women into fighter stream will be the chief guest.
The three women Flying Cadets, Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh are on the verge of creating history in India for becoming the first female fighter pilots. Women are serving in Indian Air Force since 1991 and also flying transport aircrafts and helicopters. But this is for the first time that they are passing out in the fighter stream of Flying Branch. These three young women have undergone the mandatory 55 hours of flying on Stage I trainer, the Pilatus PC 7 basic trainer; thenStage II training on the Kiran Mark II; and finally graduated to the Advanced Jet Trainers (AJT) for fighter flying training.
These female fighter pilots have endured the 5 G + gravitational pull the body experiences while flying. Subsequently they will have to undergo 9 G+ pull during the final combat flight training.
The entry of women fighter pilots in Indian Air Force is experimental in the beginning. These daredevil female fighter pilots would carry out missions in the benign environment as they fly combat air patrols (CAPs) and protect Indian skies from hostile elements contrary to their male counterpart who can fly over enemy territory.
Earlier the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on 83rd Anniversary of Indian Air Force declared that the women will be allowed in the fighter stream. The Ministry of Defence has finally approved the induction of women into the Fighter (Combat) stream of the IAF. It was a major policy decision given the Indian Society structure. Prime Minister Modi is understood to have been a driving force behind this historic decision and Defence Minister Parrikar was quick to execute the decision empoweing women in India.
Presently, the Indian Army is inducting women into the Signals, Engineers, Army Aviation (Air Traffic Control), Army Air Defence, Electronics & Mechanical Engineers, Army Service Corps, Army Ordinance Corps, Intelligence Corps, Army Education Corps and Judge Advocate Generals Branches/Cadres. The Indian Navy is inducting women in the Judge Advocate Generals, Logistics, Observer, Air Traffic Controller, Naval Constructor and Education branches/cadres. The IAF is presently inducting women in the Transport and Helicopter stream of the flying branch, Navigation, Aeronautical Engineering, Administration, Logistics, Accounts, Education and Meteorology branches. With this decision to open up induction of women in the fighter stream, women have become eligible for induction in all branches and streams of the IAF.
The Ministry of Defence has also taken up a comprehensive review pertaining to induction of women in Armed Forces, both in short service commission and permanent commission (SSC & PC) and once finalised more and more branches would be opened up for induction of women to give them the space which they deserve in the Armed Forces of the country.
There are currently 1500 women serving in the IAF, including 94 pilots and 14 navigators. For becomming a fighter pilot a girl should be graduate. They are not eligible to join India Air force (IAF) after 12th and also Girls are also not eligible to appear for the NDA exam. After Graduation, the frmale candidates can apply for the AFCAT (Airfroce Common Admission Test) exam to Become Pilot. Generally , the exam includes 3 Branches. 1) Technical Branch, 2) Flying Branch, and 3) Ground duty Branch. For Flying branch, age should be between 19-23 years only. Now, the female candidates can choose Fighter Stream under Flying Branch if they qualify.
These Flying Cadets may take another 2-3 years before they could actually be fully operational Fighter Pilots.

FIRST FEMALE PILOT to fly US Air Force F-35 Fighter Aircraft

The very first female pilot to fly the US Air Force F-35 fighter aircraft. The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine aircraft.
EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - Lt. Col. Christine Mau, 33rd Fighter Wing Operations Group deputy commander, completed her first training flight in the single-seat fifth-generation fighter following 14 virtual training missions in the Full Mission Simulator at the F-35 Academic Training Center.

“It wasn’t until I was taxiing to the runway that it really struck me that I was on my own in the jet,” said Mau, formerly an F-15E Strike Eagle pilot. “I had a chase aircraft, but there was no weapons system officer or instructor pilot sitting behind me, and no one in my ear like in simulators.”

And with that, like the other 87 F-35A pilots trained over the last four years at Eglin, Mau thundered down the runway and was airborne as the first woman in the Air Force’s premier fighter.

“It felt great to get airborne. The jet flies like a dream, and seeing the systems interact is impressive. Flying with the Helmet Mounted Display takes some adjusting, but it’s an easy adjustment,” said Mau. “The training missions in the simulator prepare you very well, so you’re ready for that flight.”

The initial flight in the F-35 training syllabus is designed to orient pilots with the physical aspects of flying the F-35 compared to other fighters they’ve flown previously, such as the F-15E Strike Eagle, F-15C Eagle, F-16 Falcon, A-10 Warthog or F-22 Raptor.

Women have served in combat aviation roles in those and other aircraft for more than 20 years.

Mau acknowledged that although she may be the first female in the F-35 program, her gender has no bearing on her performance as a fighter pilot.

Mau joked that the only difference between her and her fellow F-35 pilots is the size of her G-suit and facemask.

They are both extra-small.

“Flying is a great equalizer,” said Mau. “The plane doesn’t know or care about your gender as a pilot, nor do the ground troops who need your support. You just have to perform. That’s all anyone cares about when you’re up there – that you can do your job, and that you do it exceptionally well.”

Mau’s combat experience and technical prowess in the cockpit were the primary draws for her selection to her position with the 33rd Operations Group.

“Lt. Col. Mau brings a valuable level of combat and operational knowledge to our team,” said Col. Todd Canterbury, 33rd Fighter Wing commander. “We’re nearly a year out from declaring Initial Operational Capability with the F-35. We need battle-tested pilots to help us put the F-35A through its paces and ensure we have a trained and ready force of F-35 pilots to feed into our combat air forces.”

Canterbury witnessed Mau’s leadership and combat effectiveness first-hand when they were both deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, where she was part of another important milestone for women in the combat aviation community.

While with the 389th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, Mau was part of the first all-female combat sortie. The combat mission provided air support to coalition and Afghan forces in the Kunar Valley, Afghanistan. From the pilots and weapons system officers of the two F-15E jets to the mission planners and maintainers, the entire mission was carried out entirely by women.

“As a service, we need to attract the most innovative and skillful Airmen possible for one reason – it makes us more effective,” said Canterbury. “The broader the net that we cast into the talent pool, coupled with a laser focus on performance, ensures we have the best Airmen in place to carry out the mission. Performance is key, and it’s the standard we hold all of our Airmen to in the Air Force,” said Canterbury.

Chair Flying: This is the first step where flight cadets have to practice and familiarize themselves with every component of a cockpit in a simulated environment.

Cockpit Flying: Sitting in the actual cockpit, flight cadets have to follow the instructor commands. By this time cadets are aware of every switch and controls in the cockpit.

Taxi Run: This is the biggest pre-flying test where cadets have to perform a taxi run. This exercise is monitored very strictly to see if the cadets can perform the taxi run in a straight line following the yellow strip. This is much difficult than driving a car. If the performance is not satisfactory, cadets have to start again from chair flying.

Serbia's First Female Fighter Jet Pilot [Kapetan Ana Perišić - prva žena pilot Vojske Srbije]

Army of Serbia's first female 'Eagle' fighter jet pilot: Kapetan Ana Tadić Perišić

Captain Ana Perisic successfully performed on Wednesday a control flight on 'Orao' (Eagle) combat jet at the Morava military airport, thus becoming the first female pilot on an attack aircraft in the history of the Army of Serbia (VS).
Captain Ana Perisic is the member of the 241st fighter-bomber air force squadron of the VS 98th Air Brigade.
Serbia's Defense Minister, who witnessed the flight, congratulated Perisic, saying he was glad that there is a room for new young generations of young women who can have careers in the combat air force and other most complex units of the Army of Serbia.
Speaking about the impressions after the first solo flight, Perisic said that it was difficult to describe.
The flight was safe, and I am pleased how I managed it. The challenge is to fly alone on that aircraft after the control flight, she added.
Perisic is a part of the first generation of female pilots trained at the Military Academy.

Serbian Armed Forces get first female “Eagle“ attack aircraft pilot:

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Neboša Stefanović, PhD, attended Captain Ana Perišić’s first solo flight on an “Eagle“ (Orao) aircraft. She is the first female pilot to fly an attack aircraft in the history of our armed forces. Minister Stefanović said that he was proud of the fact that a woman had become an attack aircraft pilot and that she could become equally or even more successful than any man in performing such tasks at any moment.
Having performed a successful control flight at the military airport “Morava“ in Ladjevci, Captain Ana Perišić was congratulated by Minister Stefanović and her colleagues from the 98th Air Brigade’s 241st Fighter-Bomber Squadron.
I am glad that this is the case and that new generations of young women from our country can make their careers in fighter aviation and other most complex services and units of the Serbian Armed Forces - said Minister Stefanović, adding that he was grateful to Ana for the opportunity to see a very successful pilot today. Her commanding officers and experts assessed her flight as very successful and decided that she was ready to move on to solo flights now.
Minister Stefanović said that he also had the opportunity to visit the 98th Air Brigadetoday, a unit that could be described as the guardian of our sky.
- This is not an easy job. It is a job in which pilots and auxiliary staff, we must not forget all technicians and people who help pilots in everyday activities and perform aircraft maintenance, in which they have to undergo countless hours of training in order to be able to operate complex systems and be what they are – people who defend our country and who are ready to take off at any moment and fight for Serbia – emphasized Minister Stefanović.
Captain Ana Perišić, member of the 98th Air Brigade’s 241st Fighter-Bomber Squadron who completed training in flying “Supergaleb G4” (Super Seagull) is successfully completing a retraining as an “Eagle” aircraft pilot. Speaking about her impressions after her first solo flight, she pointed out that it was difficult to express them in words. When asked how she felt as the first female pilot to achieve that, she said that it was a task that she wastrying to execute as best as she could.
- The flight was safe and I am really satisfied with how I managed to do it. It will be a great challenge to fly this aircraft on my own, after the control flight – emphasized Captain Ana Perišić who belongs to the first generation of female pilots who were educated for this profession at the Military Academy.

USAF Female F-16 Pilot Rocks on 480th Fighter Squadron GoPro Cockpit Footage Over Portugal

Badass Female F-16 Fighter Pilot Rocks on sweet hair at 02:42, 02:48, 03:04, 03:17, 05:40 in GoPro Video Of The 480th FS “Warhawks” F-16CMs Flying Over Portugal:
Spangdahlem’s 480th Fighter Squadron deployed to Monte Real Air Base earlier this year. And this is a video showing what they have done in Portugal.
The “Warhawks” have been travelling quite a bit lately.
As already reported, 18 F-16CM/DM Fighting Falcon with the 480th Fighter Squadron of the 52nd Fighter Wing, from Spangdahlem AB, in Germany, are currently deployed to Krzesiny AB, Poland. In April, we “met” them in Andravida AB, Greece, where they had deployed with 12 aircraft to take part in “Iniochos 2019” exercise. Earlier, from Feb. 4 -22, 2019, the “Warhawks” deployed from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, to Monte Real, Portugal, to take part in an FTD (flying training deployment) with the Portuguese air force.
More than 300 Airmen from the 52nd Fighter Wing and 18x F-16 Fighting Falcons assigned to the 480th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron took part in the FTD to better integrate and share tactics, techniques, and procedures with each other to better improve interoperability.
“We came out here to primarily demonstrate two objectives,” said Lt. Col. Michael Richard, 480th EFS commander in a public release. “First is our readiness, to be able to pick up a large number of aircraft and personnel and bring them to a foreign country and operate rather expeditiously, and to also demonstrate our interoperability.”
The following cool video, filmed with GoPro and stabilized cameras, shows, from inside the cockpit, the wide array of missions flown by the “Warhawks” over Portugal, including low level navigation sorties, escort to and from the operative areas as well as strafing runs and bombing missions on local training ranges. By the way, an interesting detail: the video of a (female) pilot with a ponytail.
During the FTD, the 480th EFS carried out and trained on defensive counter air measures, offensive counter air operations, suppression of enemy air defenses and escorting. The USAFE F-16CM/DM also flew joint mission with the F-16s of the Esq 201 and Esq 301 of Portuguese Air Force (Força Aerea Portuguesa), based at Monte Real.
